In 1995, Film Australia commissioned a four-part miniseries chronicling 100 years of Australian cinema. Found recently, here is the score release...

I have two requests. First, John Carpenter's score to 'Halloween' - not the special edition but the original release with 11 tracks.

Also, would anyone happen to have the score to the HBO mini-series 'John Adams' composed by Rob Lane & Joseph Vitarelli?

Any help would be much appreciated!

Does anyone of the knowledgeable members of this generous community know if the soundtrack of " THE WONDERFUL WORLD OF THE BROTHERS GRIMM" by Leigh Harline was ever released and if so where one could listen to it?

...these are all new uploads/postings that I haven't offered before. Some are items that others have posted before & some are not. The way links have been coming & going out of existence lately, I feel that posting any album (even those already posted by others) gives people some extra chance of getting it. Meanwhile the program in Windows Media Player that adds track information to the files just doesn't seem to be working for me any longer. So, some of these files have tracks (that I added) and some do not. For those that do not, I'm sure the track titles can be obtained from the usual sources.

@ The Alchemist and All

A couple of comments regarding one of your postings...
First, I agree wholeheartedly that repostings are great. For the reason you stated. And if something's already in R/S then a reposting in M/U is just fine (or vice versa, since M/U hasn't been too great lately either).

Second, every new version of WMP just seems to get worse than the previous version. For adding or modifying track info I use Mp3Tag for all fields except title, and I use Mp3TagToolsv12 to apply title info. I may have found these freebies in Snapfiles but I really don't remember.

About M/U; Recently it's twice looped into endless new windows and once I had to reboot on account of it. I'm using JDownloader now for M/U downloads. So it's not just R/S that's giving grief.

@ all: I'm working on another '80's double-feature for next weekend. This time around, it's a double-dose of rock n' roll! Stay tuned!

@ WriterDirectorCollector: I was reading your post about the 'Blade Runner' score and you have my support, brother! There's been a ton of bootlegs floating around, and it would be nice to have one decent version without all the SFX. I look forward to hearing it!

@ Trident (and all): I fear it's the beginning of the end. Despite all the new life that re-posting has given to my files, the decline looks inevitable. I just looked and the file I uploaded for the 1958 Alex North themes album is gone. And I'm sure every month now more files will just disappear. My feeling is that it's also going to be way too much work to keep putting them out there. Also, there are only so many people finding things through the blog to begin with. Once 50 people have downloaded something, I can't expect a 51st person to come along & grab it. So, I think I'm just going to let things expire. My advice to all is to go through all my postings since I arrived in August & grab everything you want while you can. Otherwise, it's likely the items are just not going to be there. Others may feel differently but I consider uploads a fair amount of work & I hate to see all these go & have to repeat the upload. Also, I move things in & out of boxes & items I had handy just aren't now. So if someone wants something that the link has expired on, there's no saying I'd even be able to find the item to upload it again. Sorry folks, but as much as I like being a good Samaritan for all of you, this whole thing is becoming a bit of a chore.

Another issue, for me, is that I have filled every hard drive & flash drive I own & still have pages of links I haven't gotten to download yet. I fear most of those links won't be working by the time I do get to them & asking people to re-up items has gotten me into hot water in the past. So, maybe it's just me having a bad day here, but I sense that the entire operation of the blog is teetering on a precipice. It's almost like every post is TWS--get it now or else.

Someone I suggested I move to Megaupload. The problem with that is 1) it won't save the Rapidshare files, 2) I still need Rapidshare to download any RS files quickly without huge waiting, and 3) I'm not sure I can afford to have accounts at RS & MU & Sendscape & all the others just to cover all the ground. And based on what you say, all of the sites are having troubles with what they are able to offer now.

Ugh. Ugh. Ugh.

Well, there's brighter news: Goldsmith's Freud, Dankworth's Fathom, Corigliano's Revolution, the Rozsa box (even if I can't afford it), and Love With a Proper Stranger/A Girl Named Tamiko (which I did buy & will offer up once it arrives). I also learned that 2 Tiomkins: The Long Night & Champion will show up soon as well. So even if the sharing is becoming more difficult, having things to share is not (unless you are too poor to buy them in the first place which I'm sure a lot of us are).

“I fear it's the beginning of the end….”

I am sorry to be pessimistic but I found myself agreeing 100% with what he said. It’s not just for us here at FranklyYes but for all the file-sharing blogs. RS has just gotten too big for its boots; it’ll eventually go belly up and take all of us along with it.

I too have countless links still to download but by the time I can get to them they will no longer be there.

I can see one good thing emerging from all of this, however - for me, anyway. I will at last stop this endless downloading and will be able to start listening to all the stuff I have downloaded over the past three and a half years and never had the time to listen to…

filmpac said...

@ alchemist & mel - Granted, Rapidshare is offering less free slots than it used to. Granted, it can sometimes take a while to grab something. However, I have noticed that it seems based heavily on the time of day. I can almost set my watch by the time RS will toss me a file, and I can't help but think they are blocking free slots between certain hours. For half the day I am good to go.

However, you are complaining about what is a FREE service. Clearly RS want folk to sign up for an account. You have a choice to either do so, or not. If not, then you either accept what you are given, or vote with your feet and go elsewhere. There are plenty of other services out there. I suspect over time that folk will turn to alternatives more and more often.

Re links going stale. Sure, they can, but theoretically they are good for at least 90 days. If they go stale after that, well, so be it. Most anything shared previously can be re-upped, by either the original uploader, or someone else.

I for one no longer intend to make a full-time career out of monitoring links. I have over 1000 RS links that are still active, many nearing their third anniversary.

Just my 2c fellers :)

As a long-time torrenter I do find some of the comments about dead links slightly bemusing. It makes me wonder about having to seed 1 on 1 for months on end and having your bandwidth severely restricted because no one else will seed. MU and RS are a godsend compared to that. I have something like 50 soundtrack torrents waiting for Demonoid to sort itself out. I don't want to delete because I know
some people have part files and they're only waiting for things to get back to normal. Sharing hurts sometimes, but we do it from choice and that's the important thing. We also download by choice - uploaders don't force you to accumulate.
Let's not forget that we are in something of an enclosed community here. Elsewhere, movie downloaders, pop and rock enthusiasts, gamers et al are all experiencing the same problems with the same servers. This isn't the end of anything except, perhaps, torrents. Where did everybody go from Demonoid and other problem sites? I'd suggest a sizeable proportion started using direct downloads.

@Stereoelf

If you're still into the torrent thing, could you keep an eye out for the Turner Studio's Sound Effects Library? I can't find this anywhere. Thanks.

I think Rapidshare is under attack by the record and music studios, I see them in the news from time to time.

Perhaps this business of being more restrictive is a compromise to get the studios to back off. By making it a pain to use the service, perhaps their thinking is that most people will say, "heck with this, I'll just buy my content."

Back in the early days of iTunes, there were other limitations besides DRM copy protection. For example, you could only make ten copies of a playlist before you had to change it. This made it a pain to burn a hundred copies of a CD for your buddies in the college dorm.

Just a theory.

Southview212 said...

Is it a dvd rip? (sounds too good!)

I've been following the discussion regarding Rapidshare and other services.

Initially I purchased both Rapidshare and Megaupload accounts because they seemed to host the most files I was interested in downloading. As my participation in this blog continued to grow I found Rapidshare the easiest to use because of the Rapidshare Manager program that let me just load everything in and leave it alone. Megaupload has the same flexibility.

But I haven't seen any comments regarding

http://www.sharebee.com/

This free service seems like the answer to a number of problems, in that you upload your file to "sharebee" and it automatically distributes it to a number of hosts (Rapidshare, Megaupload, Badabongo, Depositfiles, etc).

The link you then post is a sharebee link which gives you the option to download from any one of the number of hosts, in short, something for everyone.

Am I missing something here?

@ ruggo - Last night after leaving my comment, I decided to do a little experiment and upload to Sharebee. Been a while since I used them, and was really just testing the waters. This morning I wake up to see your comment regarding Sharebee. Great minds :)

@ mel - This morning I also see your comment re Sharebee. I think whatthe? I go for a wee Google, and came up with this advisory on Sharebee:
Google Advisory on Sharebee <---

Since you mention Badongo as also being a culprit for malware, I'll start this little discussion there. Badongo is a service I have historically avoided, for pretty much the reasons you expressed. But since then I have enabled a range of pop-up blockers, and feel more confident now. The malware comes not from the site itself, but from the ads that sometimes appear on page. Random ads, only some of which are bad. The problem areas are the ones that offer you something to install, even closing the window will still activate the process.

The Google advisory on Sharebee indicates (albeit somewhat confusingly) no malware present for the last 90 days. Items it does mention come from third party ad sites. It appears that Sharebee no longer throws up random ads, so unless the uploader specifically creates an ad, Sharebee is now considered safe.

As a general aside, I recommend ad blockers be used at ALL times when surfing the net.

Oh yeah, the thing I uploaded. Originally ripped by Rocket From Mars methinks, haven't seen it posted for a while. Music by Dave Grusin, songs and story by Roger Miller...

Dave Grusin "Waterhole #3" (1967), LP @192:
http://sharebee.com/ab17f574 <---

PS. The reason(s) I originally went away from Sharebee. No way of registering and easily tracking download numbers, and a general feeling that bulk upload services were being targeted by the powers that be. Sharebee is probably the sole survivor.

Here's a hint, and this might be a dead giveaway once I tell you: Both films were well-known for their popular musical compositions, and although one of the films is based on a true story, and the other one was based on a novel, the only other thing that they had in common was the actor who co-starred in both films. These films were also released before 1985 if that helps!

@ filmpac: I pay for a Rapidshare account. It isn't free to me. They just sent me a note saying that instead of holding a file 90 days without a download they will only hold a file 30 days without a download. That means if no one downloads it within a month, it gets deleted.

I can't go around downloading my own links night & day, I haven't got any space to do that. I can't re-up them here & expect that they'll be saved time & again (though many have been). So, I'm just going to let a lot of them expire. Also, I'm not going to go around & re-upload & post every disc whose file has expired, that's a lot of work too. Also, when I couldn't locate a disc or when someone's link expired, I've asked people "Could anyone who has this upload it?" So far NO ONE has. Of all the people who downloaded the Mayuzumi opera I posted & asked, no one re-posted it. I asked everyone who downloaded the iso track for Addinsell's A Christmas Carol to re-post it. No one has. And if I go around pestering people to re-up their expired links, not only don't I get them re-posted, I get hornets buzzing all around me telling me what an SOB I am.

So, if you want a score I've posted, I say you have 30 days to grab the link & download it to somewhere that will hold it. Otherwise, forget it.

I also hate to be pessimistic and a chicken little but this state of affairs does make this whole game a little more difficult......

The Alchemist said...

...also, I'm about to see the vast majority of the links (and work) I've already done completely disappear this month. I just saw a link that hasn't been downloaded since 11-11, well when it becomes 12-11 this week, if no one has grabbed it, it'll be gone. 30 days from now most of my postings will be extinct. If I don't sound too happy about this, well, I'm not. It's like building a village for people & watching it get wiped out by a typhoon.

...meanwhile, on the lighter side (I mean there is a lighter side, right?), Kritzerland just issued Alex North's The Children's Hour (http://www.kritzerland.com/) & Intrada just issued a complete Black Stallion Returns by Delerue. I'd love to tell you I bought these & will post them but I'm flat broke these days & am hoping that someone else will do so. Even so, I'm glad they are out there now!

In any case, a look at the Kritzerland site will show you what discs they have issued that are now out of print. The following are out of print so I am putting the links I have for them up here outside of TWS:

@ alchemist - The point about Rapidshare being a free service was in relation to downloaders getting an open slot. Understandably, you are pissed about Rapidshare changing the rules of the game, for people who PAY for the service. I would be too.

I know where you are coming from concerning requests for re-ups. The strife you got into earlier came about not because of what you asked, but the way. I don't want to make a big issue of it, all water under the bridge now, but I understand your enthusiasm and passion. Myself, I think I've proven in the past I'm happy to help with re-ups when I can. But in the two examples you mention, I didn't download them either.

So, I'll make the request on your behalf. Can anyone help out The Alchemist with his requests above? Please. He's been a good friend to this blog, and it would make us very happy to see him get a hand.

Remember that once someone downloads from Rapidshare, just one time, it will remain active for another 30 days. Erm, 30 days, the message I got was 60 days. Regardless, it's less than the original 90 fer sure.

Nobody is suggesting you download hundreds of your own links, in order to keep them alive. This has all been discussed previously, if you really want just give them a "tickle", start the download then cancel it a minute or so later. It still counts. But I'll happily agree you shouldn't have to. If links die, they die, so be it.

Myself, even taking onboard Mel's paranaoia, I think I'll give Sharebee a whirl for a while. Seems to provide the best of all possible worlds by distributing the file to a number of different services. For everyone who moans about Rapidshare, there is another who says they can't download from Megaupload, so Sharebee (on paper) provides a good alternative.

The rules of the game may change from time to time, but the game goes on :)

PS. Not singling anyone out with this message, especially The Alchemist who has been a good friend to all of us here. File under food for thought, nuttin' more.

To all -
In reference to all the above discussion, I have decided to continue sharing as usual. I did pay for a Premium account at Rapidshare and I have been using a free Megaupload account to share files over 200 mb. If the files go away, so be it.
I do send a lot of artwork, and it takes longer to scan and clean-up the artwork than it does to actually rip a CD and send it. I do save all of the artwork that I've scanned and shared on a data DVD. This now saves me a lot of extra work if someone requests a re-up.
I think this problem came about by individuals, not here, sending huge video game files. If you go to Megaupload's "Top 100", you will see there is not even one music download to be found on the list...it's all game crap.

Hang in there people and please keep sharing, as long as we can.

Maybe this conversation has probably already happened in detail but I'm not quite sure why this group doesn't become a torrent based group with its own site (the way many bands' fans have exclusive sites just for their bootlegs, or places like radioarchive.cc that offers radio show torrents).

Download speeds and availability are only as good as the group itself, so as long as everyone is good and seeds then there isn't a problem at all. If something falls off the tracker you simply request that someone re-uploads it. You have way more control and don't have to rely on the whims of uploading facilities such as RS.

I've always used torrent groups (and for much larger files: dvds and lossless material)and the download speeds frequently beat RS MU download speeds hands down.

for example, I just downloaded a dvd at 1.2mbs. And I downloaded nearly a gig of lossless files in literally a few minutes.

It may be time to give up this blogging business!

I have been a Rapidshare premium account holder for over two years now but with the latest crap they are pulling I think it's time to quit.

The 90 day thing was bad enough but this 60 day (or 30 day) is just stupid. I can understand it for free accounts but why delete a file from someone who is paying to use the service....what exactly are we paying for?

I tried to "tickle" a couple of my links yesterday to kee them going and it seems that it didn't register. I started the download and let it continue for a several seconds just to be sure then cancelled it. Didn't show up on the download count in rapidshare's info!

If they have disabled the feature for your own files I've had enough!

The Crime Lounge will be one hell of a ghost town soon because there is NO way I can re-upload over 500 files at nearly 40gig.

I can see Rapidshare going right down the pan very soon if they continue on this road...

@ filmpac: Thanks for the words. I didn't think I was being rude when I asked people to keep their links active but I must've been because it ruffled feathers anyway. But, agreed, I learned my lesson & it's all water under the bridge today.

As for my account, I could be confused. The e-mail Rapidshare sent me said 30 days (and said that if I wanted to cancel my account & get some money back from them they would understand) but I have some files up that should be past the expiration date that are still active.

I will try to tickle those files that I'd most like to see remain active. If I can start a download & cancel it & have it still count without filling my drive, I'll attempt it (but even that isn't ideal).

However, I'm with Southview 212 on this. I do not want this state of affairs to discourage people from using & posting to the blog. I, for one, have found many treasures here thanks to you all & I think we should stick through thick & thin to keep the supply coming.

When I get some money I'll consider holding two accounts though I don't know how I can move my Rapidshare files elsewhere & I'm not in the position to re-rip & upload so many discs all over again.

So, really, if you do see something that I have posted that you want, I suggest you grab it.

Also, if you want to be helpful, upload & post more items. If a link of mine goes belly up & someone wants the disc & requests it, ANYONE who re-posts it is a godsend.

Welcome home from the hospital and welcome home to all your friends at Isbum's Place!

I join everyone else in telling you what a wonderful surprise it was to hear from you today, and to know that at least for now you're recovering at home. (I hope and pray you don't need to return to the hospital at Christmas).

Thank you for sharing your wonderful compilations and please thank your son for visiting us here to keep us informed about how you had been doing.

I don't expect to buy the Rosza box set until next year, if it is still available. (I need to spend the extra money on others this time of year!) But if no one has shared it by then, you'll be the first person I'd share it with!

Best wishes

@ All

I join Filmpac in the conviction that everything isn't about to come to a halt in this community because of the coming changes in RS. I hope everyone remembers how much fun it is writing about music and getting to know each other, regardless of the sharing.

I prefer to think it's like at the finale of the Grinch...even if they took away all our downloads and our rips, we'd still have our fah-who-porridge or whatever-the-f***, no?

To folks like Alchemist, it sucks that all your enormous library of links (which you generously shared) may expire, but I'm sure everyone would prefer you still join in the fun in whatever capacity. I can't imagine you're in it only for the downloads, because good lord, you have everything. ;-)

I think it's unfortunate RS is tightening its belt on we paying customers too...but I think it was filmpac, maybe, who reminded us just how much stuff must be parked there - and I guess at some point they need to thin it out. Has anyone ever seen the cool (1970 I think) sci-fi flick "Colossus: The Forbin Project" - in which this ginormous sentient computer (with probably less processing power than an iphone) is so vast it resides inside a hollowed out mountain? That's what I always picture when I envision what Rapidshare's servers must be like, buzzing away deep inside some peak up in the Alps of Switzerland, he he he.

BTW, I respectfully vote against the suggestion to go torrent with franklyyes. (If any of you have ever done the torrent thing, jeeze, it makes my head spin. All that seeding and leeching and strict labeling rules and ratios and crap...oy!)

Anyhow, I stand by my opinion that the best aspects of I & FP's blog will withstand the coming changes.

Re: The RS Situation

As a crusty dude of 39 who's too cheap to buy a new comp and too busy to care to learn about torrents and what not, I'd just like to say "Screw all this RS-is-dyin'-head-for-the-hills nonsense." :)

I'm stickin' around. Upping what requests that I can, one at a time if necessary, using MegaUpload or some such other service instead. If I can just make one person's day with a share once in a while, it's all worthwhile. I may not be the highest-profile sharer, but I loves ya's all too much to back out. :)

Would either APE or AAC be suitable file-formats for you?
Could you recommend any free software for ripping into flac?
I'd sure be willing to give you this single score.
Pls, lemme know.

An 80s trash-fest for Xmas:

Anyone remember B-movie-fighter Michael Dudikof?

Never seen shared (here nor anywhere else) before!

My friend, just found out that you're back... fantastic news! Best wishes and a speedy recovery! I too am wishing for a coming daring post of the Rózsa Teasury Box, I just wonder who'd dish out $180 for it... not that it's not worth it of course. In any case, Generosity is the word at Isbum's place!
Great to have you back!

Is there a score available for North Country? I have the version with only two songs by Gustavo Santaolalla, and i am looking for more.

Also another request, "I come with the rain", by the same composer...

@Rebecca
Thanks for Avatar. Love it. Awesome score.

Hi, this is my first post, and even my first google account ever! (I wanted "Musical Guy" as a nick, but somehow the "Guy" got lost LOL; things happen;-) - Anyway, here's an add-on to above "Three Coins in the Fountain" OST: Sinatra's opening song, ripped right from the movie, in glorious stereophonic sound, and not available on any CD since Sinatra was with Capitol (where he released his commercial version, in mono).
For "completists" I also added the fanfare.

Yes, the fourth wave is coming up this weekend. Took a bit longer because I had to look through my collection first which took a while.

I have Shadows in the Palace and I will include it as well as Year of the Dog.

@ fpalafox - You might want to think through your post.
It's the person buying it that will be doing the "dishing out" to you.

We rely on those generous enough to share what we can't afford, keep that in mind.

I do.
And I hope everyone here does.

Regarding your Spartacus request: I downloaded the SVC version sometime back; don't remember when and I don't remember who the uploader was, I'm uploading for your pleasure and enjoyment; unfortunately in the current times of Flac and 320K demands, alas it's only 192K (I can still remember back when 128k was satisfactory!- about 6 months ago)
Another but: for some reason track 19 of CD2 is missing. I checked the original downloaded RAR file (yes, I keep them!) but that's its original state.

Avatar sounds awful. There just isn't anything musically provocative or interesting about Horner's alien soundscape. All cloying chord progressions, perfunctory Zimmersque backbeats and non-descript, ethnicy vocalise.

Throw Apocalypto, Where the River Runs Black and Thunderheart in a playlist and hit shuffle and you get Avatar.

I expect the film will be as equally shallow in ambition.

@ Musical (Guy)

Welcome to FranklyYes, and thank you for your first post which we hope will be one of many. This one will be of great interest to those who downloaded the "Three Coins In The Fountain" soundtrack.

As a Sinatra completist, however - and I'm not the only one here - I hate to disillusion you or take the wind out of your sails but you did say it was not available on any CD.

Well, there is a 6-CD set, Frank Sinatra In Hollywood 1940 - 1964 which has every single song he ever recorded for every film he was associated with. These are not, repeat not the studio recordings but all of them were taken directly from the soundtracks as you have done. The set was shared right here at FranklyYes a couple of years ago. Take a look here for the contents.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frank_Sinatra_in_Hollywood_1940%E2%80%931964

If you are a FS completist, and don't have this, send me an email:

@ Mel a.o. / FRANK SINATRA IN HOLLYWOOD
Thanks a lot for this friendly welcome!! :-) And the info ... Yes, I even bought the Sinatra OST set by Rhino, and while they really made every effort to include every available soundtrack recording of his, they did not succeed in a few cases and indeed used the commercial recording instead and also omitted one track. This concerns Carousel, Adam's Rib and (parts of) Robin & the 7 Hoods. Here are 'one and a half' more songs from former two movies. "Amanda" is terrribly short, a rip from the movie. And if anyone has "If I Loved You" (Sinatra & Shirley Jones, out-of-print cd "Frank Sinatra - The Soundtrack Sessions") in better sound than this, please - post! :-)

@ honored general - Hate it when that happens. Alas, Cinema Rhapsodies was not my rip, I am on the hunt for a replacement track. Sorry mate.

Has this one been posted before? One for all the cheezy 80s soundtrack fans...

Today's UBI (Useless Bit Of Information):
The average maximum temperature during the Copenhagen summit on global warming will be just 3 degrees Celsius. Hours of sunshine (or should I say hour), is less than one. A fleet of some 1200 limos and 140 private jets are expected to descend on Copenhagen, only 5 of which are hybrids. And in the best story of the day, Denmark's legendary legal prostitutes were looking forwards to a bumper trade during the summit. Until the Copenhagen City Hall distributed postcards to hotels urging conference attendees to refrain from using their services. Prostitutes reacted by offering free sex on presentation of a postcard.

That is all, carry on :)
