Great news about follow-up comments working again, didn't realize so many folk used that feature.

Even better news, the "recent comments" on the main page is also working again. I had a hunt around and found a gadget that seems to not do what it should, but for whatever reason it does give the first gadget a nudge. Ah, the mysteries of the internet :)

Today's UBI (Useless Bit Of Information):
February (along with January) was added to the Roman calendar by Numa Pompilous, extending the number of months from ten to twelve. The word February comes from the word "februa", meaning cleansing or purification. In Shakespeare's time it was called "Feverell", a hundred years later it was called "Februeer". The modern name of February is only a hundred years old.

Yep, welcome to February!

sorei said...

@fdfdfdfd -
I can share all the Goldsmith score you have listed as wants, but it will take a few days for me to get them ALL sent out.
If someone can beat me to it, that's OK.

PeGo said...

I saw the covers being posted for

THE USUAL SUSPECTS

can or did anyone post the soundtrack to this? The link in the spreadsheet is long dead.

Also: I was unable to use Rapidshare this weekend (you know, the no slots available thingie) so I couldn't help anyone out at TWS.

So, who wanted these, and do you still need them? Lemme know, I can share them here if that's okay, or next weekend on TWS:

Was it you who was looking for all the dvd rips from the original Star Trek episodes?

I know a year or so ago they were on a sci-fi blog that has since closed. I'll be uploading those this week, there was 33 episodes in all. (not my rips)

jst read your other lines: that is totally sweet of you, but Hippo already helped me out, and if you take a look in the planetarium (sci fi shop), you'll see my terminator post, including 3 different terminator 1 files. Including hippos 11-track-320kbit-file.
But: I appreciate the offer, really, thank you!!!

To really show what kind of idiot I can be: I OWN this bloody soundtrack. It is on of the about 50 soundtracks I really HAVE. I stumpled over it after hippo send me the file. Must have been some christmas, my husband must have made bought it for me, I didn't...
You can't imagine how IDIOTIC I felt when I saw it and grabbed it.

@DrZock02

I'll upload RED DAWN. It's @256-320kbps.
It is still in print at Intr@da, so I think it has to be a private share or for the next TWS.

Yes, would love if you could please post "My Life" by John Barry!

Ruggo said...

I'm of mixed emotions about the work that goes into my compilations for the amount of downloads they generate (average about 20 @).

Yes, basically they are for my own listening pleasure and sharing them is just a little frosting on the cake. But that frosting requires time-consuming artwork, which I probably wouldn't do just for my own use.

Therefore, while I mull over whether or not to continue these efforts, I will post one more 4-volume set which pays homage to some great composers' imagining of the mysteries of the night in musical terms.

Just posted over at Ruggo and Jean's Fine House Of Compilations:

@ Colonel Saunders - I see.
I just mentioned "Stunts" and "The Next Man" to him when he was on the way up with "Lethal Weapon".
I wasn't a fan of the sax-guitar-synth-drum thing he had adopted at the time, so I said nothing.
Over the years I've made peace with the '8o's and occasionally find myself enjoying some of those scores.

That's always worked for us.

The minuet we start playing games with people who are reporting files, we give them the jollies they are looking for.

In this month already there are people double uploading things to fill someone's request.

Just like normal, say "The link is dead. Can someone re-upload _______*name of file."

filmpac said...

@ colonel saunders - Paranoia is all well and good (it isn't paranoia when the bastards REALLY ARE following you), but it can be taken to extremes.

You have now given us a number of conspiracy theories, based on filename mangling, surfing bots, deep level encryption, adding JPGs to confuse the package size, et cetera et cetera.

Perhaps some of those was The Alchemist, I dunno, I find it hard to keep track. But whoever, whatever, wherever, can we stop this shit now? You dudes are reading far too much into it. Files get deleted, simple fact of life. Deal with it.

Repeat Of the Earlier UBI:
If I recall correctly, February is a month of purification and cleansing.

PS. We survived Greg, we survived any number of Greg wannabes, and we most recently survived Hitler. Scare tactics have no place here. As the newbie said somewhere at the start of February, Filmpac is sometimes known to rant a little. Consider this mine for the month.

Then files which weren't listed on my account page returned just as mysteriously as they disappeared. Very strange. I was told to move from RapidShare altogether which I did as well. I still have my RS account because I need it to do rapid downloads & I don't want them to close out all of the files I already have up (though I may close it in the future anyway just because I don't want to give these guys the money). In any case, all my new shares are Mediafire uploads and so far there has been no problem with deletions. I've discussed the issue in several postings here but I'm not trying to cause trouble or create paranoid conspiracy theories about it.

@ alchemist - I seem to recall that Isbum asked if we could mangle the label name. Only. JUST the label name.

Dunno about anyone else, but I routinely revisit older pages looking for something I just know was posted recently. I wonder if you realise that nobody will be able to find your sweet post of "M@x St31ner/R0y W3bb/etc.-Th1s 1s C1n3r@ma"... again.

Don't come crying because nobody downloads it, and the link expires because nobody could find it again. Ever.

Please only scramble the names of record labels.
I hope that my repetition on the matter would eventually sink in to the community here.

Titles can't be searched unless they are posted on the blog's Main Page.

However, if someone from a label wants to search these comments one page at a time looking for their releases, hitting "control-F" and typing in VARESE-INTRADA-FSM.

Cripes! Filmy jumped in while I was typing!

I shared a 8-cd-box on TWS a while ago, it is the 'music 1978-1988, Limited edition', do you mean that?

If so, I will try to share it again next TWS.

Sound OK? :)

Just got back from work, and boy was I surprised to see the link :-)
MUCH THANKS!! After years of searching, I can relax and be happy.

And to think, after all this time of searching, Vinnie was the one to led me to this place. He did say that if a soundtrack was released on record and is out of print and obscure, this was the place to go. And by Gumby, IT WAS!! :-)

Thanks isbum! Thanks Vinnie!

@filmpac

Yeah, I must admit, I was kinda afraid to even post this request seeing how people were talking about Rapidshare this, text written backwards and such. Yeah, I felt like staying in a corner :-D But I'm happy that I took a chance and posted. I really do feel happy.

@bistis6

Thanks for letting me know about this link. I noticed the Megaupload link first since I scrolled down to the bottom page when I got home. But now I know there's another link :-)

@isbum

Never knew that Pat Williams did some many soundtracks for television and movies that I saw as a kid. In was surprised. Any soundtrack would be appreciated.

Again, thanks to all!

Much thanks for the selections. Commencing downloading :-)

Btw, since we're on the topic of Williams.... by any chance has there been any downloads of Paul Williams stuff?

I got the Bugsy Malone soundtrack but I don't even know if there's an extended version or not since I have seen many other songs not from the soundtrack but from the movie.

Anyway, I have barely seen any albums other than Bugsy being offered.

Any help?

Isbum said...

@ dommcomm - Ask Filmpac and Rocket From Mars in the two Vinyl shops.
Filmpac gave me a rare song from Paul once and I bet Rocket has a soft spot for the little feller. ;)

Steven64 said...

@isbum:
I picked up "Marvin & Tighe" on vinyl when I worked at a record store back in the day. It's still in its original plastic wrap, but my turntable's on the fritz, so I can't rip it. It's not a...great album, but the signature is pretty tight. Sor of a downtempo "How To Beat..." vibe to it. I've never seen the vinyl or the CD anywhere. Lost treasure or dud...? lol!

Isbum said...

@ Steven64 - Oh. My oops. I've seen dozens of this in the bins.
Never clicked with the swan on the cover that it was Patrick Williams.

@ isbum & filmpac: I don't read every post so I don't always catch the procedural info. I only figured out that you want all of the F$M titles in TWS last weekend. I've never once seen a line about not scrambling composer & film titles though I'm sure it must be there. Meanwhile, mentioning that RS has deleted my files is not the same thing as crying about it. I "appreciate" your using my post as an example as I might not have seen it otherwise, but couldn't you have been a bit more impersonal about it. This really is filmpac's bad month isn't it?

The Alchemist said...

@ kidflash: I realize that one does not have to be a film fan to love film music (contrary to those folks who still believe that people listen to film music to "relive their experience of seeing the film") but I assume that 99% of us got into our love of the music through an equal love of film. So, for some of us, that weekend of Cinerama & 70mm, is to us what a cruise to the Caribbean would be for other folks. I, for one, am jealous and would love to be there seeing those films and meeting the people who will be there.

Steven64 said...

@ alchemist - If you feel slighted, I can only say sorry you feel that way. I guess I made an example of the first person who came along after my initial rant, and that just happened to be you. Was nothing personal. I quote...

Perhaps some of those was The Alchemist, I dunno, I find it hard to keep track. But whoever, whatever, wherever, can we stop this shit now? You dudes are reading far too much into it.

Seriously though, I can't begin to count the number of times Isbum has patiently explained to disguise merely the name of the label, F$M, Intr@da etc etc. I would definitely run out of fingers, and me tootsies would be struggling also. Wholesale filename mangling is bad enough, but mangling the post in such a way as to make it impossible to decipher by man or beast, let alone bot (assuming such a thing even exists on a comments page on a blog which has the Google feed disabled), well, that just goes beyond the pale.

Truth be told, my initial rant was directed at the Colonel, and was more to do with rampant paranoia than anything else. The Colonel will prolly rip into me also, but again it was nothing personal. I have the utmost respect for both of you. Yours was merely the icing on the cake. Again, you have my apologies, wasn't my intent to single anyone out, really.

To reiterate:
(1) Limited edition in-print titles should ONLY be posted at TWS. By limited edition, we mean those titles limited to 1000, 1500, 3000 copies etc etc.
(2) Please to mangle label names ONLY.

Now, having said that, at the end of the day you are all big boys and girls and probably don't appreciate being dictated to. I know for a fact Isbum hates dictating, so sometimes I get to play bad cop on everybody's behalf. It's a shitty job but somebody has to do it (:

That is all, carry on.

My 2 cents on this. We need to stay under the radar, so to speak. With other's guidance and support, we have built a mighty blog that we do not want have shot down by any troll that wants to wreck it. So, by using a few tricks, it IS well worth the time and effort involved.

I thank each and every one of you for all of your hard work!

Re: The original soundtrack album to the new film, 3dg3 of D@rkness (2010), scored by Howard Shore...

I was just over on Amazon.com having a look at it, and I see a listing that says it's only available from them either through mp3 download or CD-R. So, this soundtrack isn't available in stores anywhere? Just through Amazon as a burned-on-demand CD-R? Do these even come with liner notes and stuff?
