Johnny Williams music for the television show "Checkmate" get's interpreted by Shelly Manne.
From a fan: "Manne had a way of assembling just some of the hardest swinging musicians he could find. Conte Candoli on trumpet, Richie Kamuca on tenor saxophone, Russ Freeman on piano, and Chuck Berghofter on bass. This in my opinion was the best lineup Manne ever recorded with."
@ mel and isbum I recently changed my computer speaker system for a Bose Companion 5 which provides a terrific sound. I am very happy with it, but (unfortunately there is often a but) since then I cannot record anymore. I mean the various virtual recorders of my PC do not receive any signal. I'm still fighting with this problem, and it is to explain, Mel, why I haven't yet posted the three other volumes of Tete Montoliu's "The Music I Like To Play" and, Isbum, why I have not been posting a lot in my shop this month. I hope to find a solution soon. In the meantime I managed with difficulties but eventually successfully to rip Volume Four of the Tete Montoliu opus. For some obscure reasons it did not work with Volumes 2 & 3... So here is Tete Montoliu's "The Music I Like To Play_Volume 4:
If there is anything wrong with the rip, please don't hesitate to tell me. Enjoy it and again, to both of you my friends and to everyone in this wonderful place, a very happy year 2009 full of love, peace and happiness.
I just note that I reached 200 comments. Looking forward to reaching 400 in the near future... Isbum, thanks a lot for the Don Ellis and the Shelly Manne. Very much appreciated!
@ H2O I must confess that I overlooked your post of December 13 with Francy Boland-Kenny Clark Big Band "More". I certainly don't want to let the present year go without telling you how much this recording is appreciated. I love this orchestra and have several albums of them, but not this one. So thank you very very much for it and happy new year!
I heartily reciprocate your good wishes for the New Year.
Thank you very much for posting the Tete Montoliu. After downloading I will check it, and if there is any problem I will get back to you.
I think the problem you have with not being able to record after installing your new sound system is that of the connection to your sound card. There can be no other logical reason for it. Try plugging the miniature stereo jack from the speaker system into a different input socket - the one you have it plugged into is probably the wrong one.
anybody up for some Galt MacDermot? this record right here is one of my all-time favorites...if you have not heard this record, i think it's worth giving a listen...
it's still in print, so i'm leaving the link up only for a few days, so please grab it while you can, and please do not list, quinlan, thanks!!

btw if you wanted more Galt MacDermot, here's Reflections of a Radically Right Wing Composer, which i just posted over in Bright Lights Under Broadway...

I recall, many years ago, attending a small almost all-black nightclub in Los Angeles. It was either on Washington or Adams, and constantly filled by great jazz.
One performing regular was PAPA JOHN CREECH. Papa John played an electricly amplified violin with such magnificent abandon that you couldn't help but listen in rapt attention before breaking into exhuberant cheers.
Would anyone have any recordings of Papa John? I've never found any.
Since your guys provide me so many moments of pure joy here and on the other fantastic places on this blog (specially on the European Cine-Scores), I'd love to send you guys links to "some" jazz albums I have. But I really don't know what you're in need of, or the profile of jazz you want on the blog, or if it has to be strictly associated with cinema... Anyway, I'll leave something next days. A great new year to all at isbumsplace. Greet form Brasil.
@ yerblues This shop is essentially dedicated to Jazz Music. Posts are not necessarily to be connected with cinema, but they may very well be so. Whatever you decide to share will be welcome and appreciated. Thank you very much for the offer.
I'm not an Earl Klugh fan. Generally he's too smooth jazz for my tastes. But on this particular record, he just hit the spot. The format (trio), the choice of repertoire and the performances was just perfect. There's a Volume Two, but I don't have it. Anyone?
The Terence Blanchard record is a much more serious approach to cinema jazz, since the man himself is a composer of soundtracks. Beautiful rendition of Chinatown theme.
Don't know if the records are oop, but if you think these posts "hurts" the policy of the blog, you can erase them, ok?
Firstly, thanks for the great Luiz Bonfá share. Really love the brazilian music from this period.
No, I don't live in Rio. But my city, Vitória (yes, like that great Kinks song), is a southeast shore place circa 500 km far from the cidade maravilhosa (don't know how much that means in miles).
Don't know were you live, mate, but here we are in full summer, hot sunny days, sometimes great portions of rain at night, a period that is widely known as the "waters of march", wich inspired Jobim to pen the song with the same name (given the ecological madness we're livin' in, march comes a little earlier this year for us).
I'd love to be in vacation right now, but, sadly, I'm working as a dog these days... I guess you can't always get what you want...
Anyway, it's a great time to visit Rio, or any city in Brasil, specially those ones on the shores. Fortaleza, Salvador, Vitória, São Luiz, Recife, Rio, Natal, Aracaju, just pick one and you will have a great time... (but Rio is really a special, mytical place)
Yes isbum, I would love "Near East Brass" by Jerry Fielding Thank you so much for the post!
Also once again, if anyone knows of a copy of Chack Sagle "Splendor In The Brass" album on Reprise, that would be wonderful!
For those of you who have never heard of it. It is the cream of the crop of studio musicians in LA in 1962. Great arrangements! Original recorded on 35 mm film at the time. Swings like crazy!
Jerry Fielding - great arranger and composer! Meet his wife along time ago. Very wonderful lady and supportive of her late husbands music.
@ All Just to let you know that the December link lists have been posted in the usual section of the blog. I'd like to draw your attention to the Filmscorium list which is presented in a different way as opposed to the traditional presentation. This blog was first opened in may 2007 and since that date I have been issuing a new sheet each month, so at the end of December 2008 there were 20 sheets which, in my opinion, could make a search long and difficult. I mean that someone who would like to find a specific album or artist had to repeat the same search procedure with each sheet, i.e. 20 times. So I have put together all 20 months on one single sheet where , however, each month is clearly identified the same way as for the shop link lists. By the way, after 20 months, we are reaching a number of links over 10000 units… Now, this way, if you want to search for a specific item you'll just have to apply the relevant procedure once. Let me also remember you that once you have downloaded the lists, they become yours. I mean you may manipulate them as you like, modify the order if necessary. For instance should you require to have all "Ennio Morricone" links all together, sort the list by alphabetical order with the artist name as the first sorting level and you'll have at the letter "E" all Ennio Morricone's links in one section. If for any reason you think that the old presentation is preferable, please do not hesitate to let me know. Good luck and thank you for your kind attention.
@ mel Here is, at last, Volume 2 of Tete Montoliu's "The Music I Like To Play". I'm still experiencing problems to rip. Anyway, Volume 3 should be posted shortly to complete the serie.
@ mel This is Volume 3 completing the four CD collection of "The Music I Like To Play" by Tete Montoliu. It is mainly dedicated to Thelonious Monk. As noted in the track list, it was originally recorded as a medley in one continuous piece. Soul Note, the record company which released it isolated the different tracks in order to let the listeners play them individually, but this was done sort of artificially and in my opinion not very professionally. In several cases tracks were cut a little too early and the fading away which was supposed to close it has been put at the beginning of the following track. It was often a matter of half a second or one second but it was enough to spoil the listening (at least for me). Obviously it did not matter to them since there was no time separation (blank space)between the tracks which therefore could be listened to without interruption in one shot as originally recorded. So I tried to arrange it by removing from the beginnings of the tracks the portion belonging to the end of the previous track and stick it there. I think it's OK now for a proper listening. If you decide to burn a CD from your download I would advise you to eliminate the blank space at the beginning and the end of each track and program your software to put 0 second between the tracks. Nero does it. If you can't, I would be very pleased to supply you with another edition "ready to be burnt". Just let me know. Here is the link:
Whichever way you ripped it is fine with me. Actually, I archive all my music as mp3s on CDRs as I have various pieces of audio equipment that can play them. I'm not sure whether mp3s can be edited without re-recording them with Audacity. It doesn't matter.
I am so happy to get all 4 volumes that I'm over the moon. I cannot thank you enough for them.
I hope your rippping problems are now over (it seems like they are).
i have an odd request for all my jazz brethren here...i'm looking for any pieces of music that has a drum break, but in 6/8 (or 3/4) time signature...would anybody happen to know of any pieces of music off the top of their head that might have this? i would sincerely appreciate any info or suggestions!! thank you!!
Here is one of the first jazz waltzes - it’s from the 1956 album “Sonny Rollins Plus 4” and titled Valse Hot. It has a drum solo by the late, great Max Roach, towards the end of the track. The full personnel is as follows: Sonny Rollins - tenor; Clifford Brown - trumpet; Max Roach - drums; Richie Powell - piano and George Morrow - bass. This was actually the legendary Max Roach And Clifford Brown Quintet but as they were recording for the Prestige label here and not Mercury, with whom they had a recording contract, the name of the unit had to be changed. All the other tracks are in the usual 4/4. Anyone who would like the complete album please just request it here and I will post it.
The Best Thing for You - Chris "Isto" White (guitar, vocal, door) (1:48) How Deep is the Ocean - Seth "Fingers" Flynn Barkan (piano, vocal) (4:43) I'm Putting All My Eggs in One Basket - LStrachey (ukulele) (1:31) It's a Lovely Day Tomorrow - Barbara Sadegur (vocal) (:57) I've Got My Love to Keep Me Warm - Pete Miserendino (electric guitar) (2:24) I Want to Go Back to Michigan - Fret Killer (guitar, vocal) (2:50) Marie - Eytan Uslan (piano) (3:19) My Walking Stick - Barry Mullis, Priscilla Boyle (guitar, stand-up bass, kazoo, vocals) (2:36) The Ocarina - Charlie Hind (soprano & alto sweet potatoes) (:55) Puttin' on the Ritz - Elly Kellner (guitar, vocal) (1:31) Puttin' on the Ritz - Jim Hession (piano) (4:09) Sittin' in the Sun - DrBurn42 (dubbed vocals) (2:02) Steppin' Out with My Baby - jairosoft (guitar, vocal) (3:27) Waiting at the End of the Road - Patsy Monteleone (ukulele, vocal) (2:16) What'll I Do - Laurie M. B. (guitar, vocal, dubbed violin) (2:29) When I Lost You - John Kovac (harp) (1:02) White Christmas - Gary Lehmann (harmonica, vocal) (1:04)

Not all of this is jazz but I wasn't sure where else to put it. It's a compilation of Berlin songs by an eclectic batch of artists from various genres. Except for the songwriter, the only thing these tracks have in common is that they were all part of videos posted to YouTube.com. Some are by amateurs, others by professionals and semi-pros. Sound quality, volume and talent vary considerably. I laughed, I cried, I came away from it strangely unsettled.

Gee...it seems funny that no one here has the album "Inside", by flutist Paul Horn.
Also, does anyone know of an album (by Billy May), which might include his complete theme for the TV show "Naked City"...sometimes known as "Somewhere In The Night"?
Oops! Disregard "An Evening With ..." in the above Shearing list. On this one Torme is accompanied by Mike Renzi(piano), John Leitham (bass) and Donny Osborne (drums). Silly me!!
Sorry for an unexpected long silence. I can see that I didn't show up since the beginning of the month and must say that I'm quite happy to be back among the living. There were some bad and good reasons for it. The bad one is that I had a bad flu. But did anyone ever hear of a good flu? Unless a real good flu be even worse than a bad one... Mine was bad enough to keep me away from my favorite activity. I am now gradually recovering and have again a great deal of catching up to do. Now fortunately there was also a good reason to be distracted from blogging. Ten days ago, my wife an I became for the first time the grand parents of a charming little baby girl named Loane, daughter of my elder son and it was enough to turn our little peaceful life upside down. I'd like to thank very much all of you who kept this blog with some activity during my absence and I won't last any longer to make my first February posts. In 1954 a 22 year old young composer released his first album as an arranger. It was Michel Legrand's "I Love Paris", a serie of 16 songs dedicated to the French Capital (well actually there are 15 songs since Cole Porter's "I Love Paris" is at the same time the opening and the closing song of the album). This is not what we may call actually jazz music, but with Michel Legrand jazz is never far. I do not have the names of the members of his orchestra but some liner notes say that Miles Davis was among them. Five years later, in 1959, although still at the beginning of his prolific career, Michel Legrand was anything but unknown and had already released one of his master piece as an arranger, "Legrand Jazz" which I posted here at an earlier date. He then decided to record again an album as a tribute to Paris, this time not only as an arranger but also as a performer. The album was cut during four sessions with 10 songs, all them being part of the first album released 5 years earlier. I don't know if there is a story behind these two albums, but it's very interesting to see how Michel Legrand treated the same songs in two very different ways. The second album is pure jazz, with improvisation, feeling and swing. Michel Legrand is on piano, Guy Pedersen on bass and Gus Wallez on drums. Here are these two albums for your listening pleasure, ripped from their CD reeditions:
I Love Paris http://rapidshare.com/files/198489480/MLILoveParis.rar
Paris Jazz Piano http://rapidshare.com/files/198499595/MLParisJazzPiano.rar
I must say that I already saw the first album posted somewhere in blogland. Here in both cases, it's my own rip from my own CDs @ 320 with complete high resolution artwork which in the case of "I Love Paris" was a six fold spreadsheet. Enjoy
@ mel Thank you pal for Sonny Rollins "Valse Hot". I must say that I wouldn't mind having the entire album as you so kindly offered. By the way how are you doing? Did you recover after you lost all your wheels? Cheers
@ quotewhore Thank you for your hard work in compiling these Irving Berlin's YouTube videos. It's very much appreciated and Irving Berlin has certainly his place in full here. Thanks again
@ KellyB I had a look at your blog and was quite impressed. Everything posted is from a perfect taste and I will have a deeper visit by tomorrow. I am a George Shearing fan (and Mel Torme as well) and the list of albums you posted looks extremely attractive to me. I have some of them but sometimes in a not too good state). So a share of any of them would be received with great pleasure. Thank you very much for offering.
Firstly, pal, heartiest congratulations and welcome to the grandparents' club. This will for sure mark the beginning of the end of your peaceful life, but, believe me, it's well worth it. May you and your wife derive much pleasure from your new granddaughter.
Sorry to hear that you had flu and I'm glad you now seem to be over it. Stay well.
Gove me a couple of days to work on the Sonny Rollins. I have in my collection almost everything that Clifford Brown ever recorded commercially, including the Mercury 10-CD set.
Things have quietened down here in the last week or so but the situation remains volatile. We'll see what happens after the new government is formed and takes shape.
Includes: Key Largo Double Indemnity White Heat The Big Sleep The Naked City Touch of Evil The Lost Weekend * Full booklet scans in The Artwork Department!
@isbum fantastic share! this is pure NOIR crime jazz sounds!
@quinlan and others: this is the epitaph of a great man and musician, Chet Baker. The music from "Let's get lost" a documentary on sad and incredible life of Chet himself. Enjoy his beautiful voice and trumpet....
Further to my above post to tripmaster (Feb 9), and to your request for the full album, here it is: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=FFEBJJMT
I repeat the line-up: Sonny Rollins - tenor; Clifford Brown - trumpet; Max Roach - drums; Richie Powell - piano and George Morrow - bass.
This was one of the last recordings of Clifford Brown, recorded on March 22, 1956. He was a real giant of modern jazz trumpet, and his death in June of that year in an automobile accident was an enormous loss to jazz. We are indeed thankful that his recordings, all of them testimonies to his great talent, live on and we are able to appreciate and enjoy his tremendous virtuosity and talent today.
As promised here's my first rip/upload of some Torme/Shearing collaborations I have. It's "Top Drawer". They won a Grammy for this one. Well deserved. If it's a might heavy in the lower frequencies tweak the bass gain down a bit on your player amp. I did this and seemed OK. Sorry.
I don't know if it's a hard to find item on the blogosphere, an oop score or something like that, but, since it's two great jazzy scores, here´s the link to "The Pawnbroker (1964) & The Deadly Affair (1966)", by Quincy Jones
Info here: http://soundtrackcollector.com/catalog/soundtrackdetail.php?movieid=8825
@ mel "Sonny Rollins +4" An absolute delight!! I love Clifford Brown and for some odd reasons have only a very few of his recordings. So this one was more than appreciated. Thank you pal for it and for your nice words about my family expansion...
@ KellyB The Shearing/Torme is outstanding. I picked it up as well a number of other goodies in your blog where I made a fantastic harvest of great albums. Rather than saying thank you there one thousand times for each download, I'd rather to express my deepest appreciation by addressing here a million thanks once for all the wonders that you generously posted. Wish to be able to return the compliment with, time permitting, some good albums to share here. All the best
@ Jimi Vampiro I have a number of Chet Baker's albums, but not the one you posted earlier here. Needless to say how deeply I appreciated it. Thank you again for your continuous contribution.
In this month of February I keep being in a Michel Legrand's mood. Here is another album from 1972/1974 sessions where he arranged and conducted all tracks, the main performer being the great singer Sarah Vaughan. Michel Legrand composed 10 out of the 12 songs of the album. The track list is as follows: The Summer Knows (from "Summer of '42"); What Are You doing The Rest Of Your Life? (from "The Happy Ending"); Once You've Been In Love; Hands Of Time (Brian's Song); I Was Born In Love With You (from "Wuthering Heights"); I Will Say Goodbye; Summer Me, Winter Me; His Eyes, Her Eyes (from " The Thomas Crown Affair"); Pieces Of Dreams (from "Pieces Of Dreams"); Blue, Green, Grey And Gone; Wave; Deep In The Night. This is not truly a jazz album, but it's Michel Legrand, it's Sarah Vaughan and among the numerous musicians who contributed to the album one may note the presence of first class artists such as Dave Grusin (keyboard), Ray Brown (bass), Tommy Tedesco (guitar), Shelly Manne (drums), Conte Candoli (trumpet), Bud Shank, Peter Christlieb, Jerome Richardson (saxes) & Frank Rosolino (trombone). Michel knew where to go for outstanding talents... Here is the link to "Sarah Vaughan With Michel Legrand" (rip @ 320 with complete artwork):

@eda-88 Sorry to be a nudge. Got the Cole Porter - Charlie Parker disk 1 and have the password. File seems to be exclusively disk 1. Your original non password protected Cole Porter file likely contained tracks 1-6 from disk 2, Anything Goes because your second Cole Porter upload file starts at Track 7 for Anything Goes. Can you please upload a supplement with tracks 1 through 6. Thank you for sharing such great music.
@Eda-88, sorry to bother you, but could you please re-upload "The Cole Porter Songbook: Anything Goes"? I can't get any of the tracks from it. Thanks in advance!

Due to personal circumstances, I've not been able to be very assiduous in March. Sorry folks for that. I'll be more regular and constant next month. In the meantime, enjoy.
@Quinlan , just like to say thank you for The Subterraneans Andre Previn post I watched a documentary on the making of this and was so fascinated , just had to hear it , didnt know where to look so came here first , should have known I'd find it here :)
Hi everyone. I'm new here, spending most of my time over in the Filmscorium. I am trying to track down the soundtrack to "Just a Gigolo" (Original title: "Schöner Gigolo, Armer Gigolo") from 1979. Some of the music is by The Manhattan Transfer, The Pasadena Roof Orchestra, Sydne Rome and Marlene Dietrich (They both were in the movie). Any helpers?

@ Ms Boricua - first, my best wishes go out to you. You are so young to have to be dealing with such serious health issues. I hope everything turns out fine.
I know from personal experience that there are few things more frustrating than a doctor saying you may have something "serious" but then not being able to set up the follow-up tests right away. What do they think!?! That you aren't going to obsess about it and be scared.
Ironically, the tests for a brain tumor and leukemia turned out fine, but it took the doctor more than 18 months to realize I had lupus. Oh well.
I find music very soothing. In looking through posts it seemed as if you never got the copy of the Cole Porter Songbook: Anything Goes you were looking for. Hope this helps keep you distracted for awhile:
Just did, and although the illness described would be anything but pleasant, I was relieved to read that "with treatment, most people with lupus can lead active lives."
It is my sincere hope that you are included and will receive the correct treatment.

Thank you for the Patrick Williams "Sinatraland", I'm a huge big band fan so I'm looking forward to hearing this, especially with Bill Watrous on Trombone...
@ Mel - Have a listen to this. I don't know all the details, but another group of musicians recorded Claude Bolling's music from "California Suite". The pianist brings MUCH more to the table than the OST recording.
Thanks, Mel, for the Shorty Rogers tip. He's a favorite of mine anyway. And thanks for keeping your eyes open for me for jazz versions of classical works!
I have found for you Miles Davis' haunting recording of the second movement of Rodrigo's Concierto de Aranjuez ( plus other tracks) which I hope will fit the bill.
Thanks to the original uploader; I think the link includes both flac and 320 mp3:
Oops. I guess you could assume that I'm just overly grateful to Mel, but the truth is that I had a bit of a computer glitch there. I promise not to post all my comments in triplicate.

Stan Kenton once recorded an LP of music by Wagner. I have never been able to find a copy of the complete recording but I do have a track from it somewhere.
Now I don’t think this is a jazz record, but I came across it today and may be of interest to you: Kai Warner Plays Wagner. You’ll find it here:
I thought the jazz shop needs a little jostle so I'm thanking you for the Peter Nero here.
It's strange that I've never come across it before - he did record the Rhapsody In Blue together with some Gershwin tunes with Fiedler on RCA Victor which I bought when it was released in the 1960s and now have in digital, and I'm really looking forward to listening to this one.
When I think of the large number of regular cats at FranklyYes I am always amazed that you remember in detail what we like ...
Thank you very much indeed for procuring and sharing it with me.
@ Mel - Forget what I said about the Jaime Delgado Aparito record being crime jazz - GET IT - it's just Great Jazz! The booklet didn't come with it, so I'm not sure who's tickling the ivory's, but you'll enjoy him.
The quality of Jaime Delgado Aparicio´s (Lima 1943-1983) music is not only born of his natural talent, but from many years of study (mostly in the US) and investigation. From his first award for his piano skills at fifteen, to his position as conductor of the Orquesta Sinfonica Nacional de Peru, Jaime Delgado Aparicio´s career is one of no equal in Peru’s music history. We are talking about heavyweight, probably the most talented jazz musician in Peru, and maybe South America. It is not frequent that an individual leaves a permanent mark in the musical history of a country. In Peru, in the '60s and '70s, Jaime Delgado Aparicio, a pianist and composer, promoted and exposed all different styles of jazz to all social levels, helping many young students and professional musicians to understand this musical language. The soundtrack for "El Embajador y yo" was written in 1966 by Jaime Delgado Aparicio. The movie itself is worth watching, some sort of crossroads between James Bond’s films, Blake Edwards´ The Party, and Get Smart! But it’s the score that brought us here. The music in this rare action-comedy film combines, in an extraordinaire way, Jazz with different styles that were hip in the mid-'60s, in a very groovy ...
@ Mel - Honored to know that a few of my shares are leapfrogging to the top of your "to listen to" stack. Glad you are enjoying them too, my good friend. :)
I have the Jolly and Grappelli LPs on vinyl, not yet ripped. It may be several days before I'm able to rip them, but if no one beats me to it, I'll be glad to put those up for you. If no one else uploads them before me, I'll let you know when they're ready.
Okay, I got one done. Here's "Herb Alpert Presents Pete Jolly":
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=6N17D1BR
I apologize for the surface noise, but this is my original first pressing copy from 1968, when I was 13, and I'm 54 now. I remember winning this LP in a radio station contest.
Here's the info:
PERSONNEL: Pete Jolly, piano Earl Palmer, drums John Pisano, guitar Chuck Berghofer, bass
arranged and conducted by Marty Paich produced by Herb Alpert engineered by Larry Levine and Thorn Nogard
TRACKS: 1) Windows of the World (Burt Bacharach/Hal David) 2) Serenata (Leroy Anderson/Mitchell Parish) 3) Dindi (Jin-jee) (Antonio Carlos Jobim/Gilbert) 4) You've Got To Be There (E. Levitt/R. Sexter) 5) Like A Lover (Motta/Dory Cammi/Alan Bergman/Marilyn Bergman) 6) Lonely Girl (Neal Hefti/Jay Livingston/Ray Evans) 7) Amy's Theme (John S. Sebastian) 8) Love So Fine (Roger Nichols/Tony Asher) 9) For Carl (Leroy Vinnegar) 10) Dancing in the Street (Stevenson/Gaye)
You're very welcome. If I could afford noise-reduction software, I'd use it on all of my older vinyl uploads. I think I'm suffering from Soundforge envy....
Go to the main FranklyYes page and click on the "GSW Archive Sheet" located on the right side of the page. You will find a download link for the sheet in my post.
This updated spread sheet only includes links posted at the main Filmscorium and at the moment only goes through August 2009 but I will have it completely updated soon. For the time being there are thousands of new links to browse.
I have not forgotten you guys with your own specialized shops. I plan to update sheets for your shops as soon as I can. I wanted to start with the one that involved the most work first.
Now you guys head on over, get yourself a copy of the sheet and start downloading like crazy!
I hope this update makes finding what you want a lot easier.
Here is All Night Long (1961) soundtrack LP at 320 kbps, not my rip - thanks to the original uploader.
Music is nominally by Philip Green, much of it improvised jazz by groups led by Tubby Hayes, Johnny Dankworth, Charlie Mingus, Dave Brubeck and others.
The link includes front and back covers plus a track list with personnel details.
Request - The Hi-Lo's With Rosemary Clooney. I heard this album years ago and have never been able to get my hands on it. I need it to complete my Hi-Lo's collection. Anybody?
How nice of you to remember that I like Pete Jolly! Thank you so much. Kelly's Lounge Soundz is one of my favorite blogs, and I only recently discovered this disc there myself. I love the cover too. Thanks again!

Thanks - I think I must have nearly everything Shearing ever recorded.
When you say "Lullaby Of Birdland" album, I suspect it is one of the many albums released by MGM Records, all of which were compilations of the singles that he recorded for that label.
There may have been a few of those singles that I don't have; if you can give me the list of that's on the album I'll be able to give you a more definite answer.
@ Mel - Pickwick label. Don't Blame Me Easy to Love Lullaby of Birdland I Remember You I Wished on the Moon Over the Rainbow A Sinner Kissed an Angel Summertime There's a Lull in My Life They All Laughed
Yup, thanks but these are all MGM singles, originally 78s, reissued by Pickwick. Got 'em all.
You have to be very wary of Pickwick. They were essentially a cheap label of reissues mainly from the EMI (UK) group who presented their LPs with new covers as if they were newly recorded, thus trying to bluff the customers into buying stuff they already had.
Here's an older CD (maybe mid-to-late eighties) of Vince Giordano's Nighthawks digitally covering Fred Astaire film music. Great jazz/swing arrangements true to the times and sources. Night and Day, The Carioca, Shall We Dance?; 14 tracks in all.

@ Mel - I picked up an Lp on the HIFI Label titled "Relax!...with Dave Carlson" It's got Dave in a white dinner jacket laying on top of a grand piano. Heard of it? Seen it? Have it?
Here's CBS Masterworks disc "Gershwin: Greatest Hits" MLK 39454. Features Bernstein, Ormandy, and Kostelanetz conducting classics like "Rhapsody in Blue," "An American in Paris," "Concerto in F." The standout piece is track 5, "Porgy and Bess-- A Symphonic Picture," an arrangement of themes by Robert Bennett. A 10-minute tour de force. Covers included. @320. http://www.megaupload.com/?d=WTFV9JOW
@ rich- going through here and saw one of your old requests. If you don't have it yet, here's a link for the Porgy & Bess by Oscar Peterson and Joe Pass:
Dave is just 21 years old, comes from Seattle, Washington. He plays The Lady Is a Tramp Dave's Blues Waltz Medley St. Louis Blues Lullaby of the Leaves Minute Waltz Slaughter On 10th Avenue Limehouse Blues The Carioca Invitation Entertainer's Rag
THXjay will put together some covers for this fairly soon, Mel. I'll drop them for you in Filmpac's Vintage shop.
Oops!! Sorry, scrolled down to the bottom of the page and missed seeing the Dave Carlson post above it. To tell you the truth, Carlson is more my bag than the "new age" stuff - but thanks very much for both of them.
Funny thing, you know - a lot of music gets recorded by young musicians who are very good - child prodigies especially. They have one or two albums released, brilliant ones sometimes, and that's the end, you never hear of them again...
You should download the Dave Carlson album that isbum posted here yesterday. His version of the Minute Waltz will knock you out! So will Slaughter On Tenth Avenue.
@ Mel - "Relax!" was more my bag too. The Kater had some pretty inspired writing, but who can go toe-to-toe with the set of classic's Dave Carlson played?

Johnny Williams music for the television show "Checkmate"
get's interpreted by Shelly Manne.
From a fan:
"Manne had a way of assembling just some of the hardest swinging musicians he could find. Conte Candoli on trumpet, Richie Kamuca on tenor saxophone, Russ Freeman on piano, and Chuck Berghofter on bass. This in my opinion was the best lineup Manne ever recorded with."

@ mel and isbum
I recently changed my computer speaker system for a Bose Companion 5 which provides a terrific sound.
So here is Tete Montoliu's "The Music I Like To Play_Volume 4:
http://rapidshare.com/files/178351382/TMTheMusicILikeToPlay_Vol._4.rar
If there is anything wrong with the rip, please don't hesitate to tell me.
Enjoy it and again, to both of you my friends and to everyone in this wonderful place, a very happy year 2009 full of love, peace and happiness.
I just note that I reached 200 comments. Looking forward to reaching 400 in the near future...
Isbum, thanks a lot for the Don Ellis and the Shelly Manne. Very much appreciated!
@ H2O
I must confess that I overlooked your post of December 13 with Francy Boland-Kenny Clark Big Band "More".
I certainly don't want to let the present year go without telling you how much this recording is appreciated. I love this orchestra and have several albums of them, but not this one. So thank you very very much for it and happy new year!
@ quinlan,
I heartily reciprocate your good wishes for the New Year.
My very best to you.
anybody up for some Galt MacDermot? this record right here is one of my all-time favorites...if you have not heard this record, i think it's worth giving a listen...

My jazzy friends,
I recall, many years ago, attending a small almost all-black nightclub in Los Angeles.
Thanks in advance.
h20!!
I realize i'm a little late in saying this, but Ace 7 is amazing...thanks for sharing!!
Quinlan,
Since your guys provide me so many moments of pure joy here and on the other fantastic places on this blog (specially on the European Cine-Scores), I'd love to send you guys links to "some" jazz albums I have. But I really don't know what you're in need of, or the profile of jazz you want on the blog, or if it has to be strictly associated with cinema... Anyway, I'll leave something next days. A great new year to all at isbumsplace. Greet form Brasil.
@ yerblues
This shop is essentially dedicated to Jazz Music. Posts are not necessarily to be connected with cinema, but they may very well be so.
Whatever you decide to share will be welcome and appreciated.
Thank you very much for the offer.

Terence Blanchard - Jazz In Film (Film Score Anthology), 1999

I'm not an Earl Klugh fan. Generally he's too smooth jazz for my
tastes. But on this particular record, he just hit the spot. The
format (trio), the choice of repertoire and the performances was just
perfect. There's a Volume Two, but I don't have it. Anyone?
The Terence Blanchard record is a much more serious approach to cinema
jazz, since the man himself is a composer of soundtracks. Beautiful
rendition of Chinatown theme.
Don't know if the records are oop, but if you think these posts
"hurts" the policy of the blog, you can erase them, ok?
Greets.

Yerblues, you live in Rio?
I wanna go to "River of January"!
@H2O,
Firstly, thanks for the great Luiz Bonfá share.
We'll be glad to have you here, mate.
Greets.
@ Yerblues -
Thanks for your reply, mate.
I live in Japan, the other side of the earth from your city Vitória.
I miss the hot sunny days.
We are in full winter, snow, very coooold.
But I can only listen to hot jazz...

Thank you once again!! Stay cool!

@ All
Just to let you know that the December link lists have been posted in the usual section of the blog.
By the way, after 20 months, we are reaching a number of links over 10000 units…
Now, this way, if you want to search for a specific item you'll just have to apply the relevant procedure once.
THANK YOU isbum for the link!
The "Near East Brass" by Jerry Fielding album is wonderful!!!
Once again if anyone has Chuck Sagle - "Splendor In The Brass" Reprise Album
or
Jerry Fielding - "Fielding's Formula"
Thank you again!

@ Perry -You're welcome!
@ Quinlan - You seen Mel around anywhere? Seems he's been gone quite a while.
@ isbum
All the wheels came off over here. We're gradually putting them back on in the hopes that they will stay on....
Oh Mel, I'm so sorry to hear that.
Seems like a lot of our friends have experienced "wheels coming off" around these parts.
I wish you well & hope you get up and running again soon!

Here is, at last, Volume 2 of Tete Montoliu's "The Music I Like To Play". I'm still experiencing problems to rip. Anyway, Volume 3 should be posted shortly to complete the serie.

Hope you are well too and wish you all the very best.
@ quinlan
Thank you so much for Tete 2.
I am sorry to hear that you haven't solved your ripping problems yet. I hope you can do so soon.
My best to you too.
@ mel
This is Volume 3 completing the four CD collection of "The Music I Like To Play" by Tete Montoliu.

@ quinlan
Whichever way you ripped it is fine with me. Actually, I archive all my music as mp3s on CDRs as I have various pieces of audio equipment that can play them. I'm not sure whether mp3s can be edited without re-recording them with Audacity. It doesn't matter.
I am so happy to get all 4 volumes that I'm over the moon. I cannot thank you enough for them.
I hope your rippping problems are now over (it seems like they are).
Thanks again, pal and all the very best.

@ tripmaster

This follows post on "Golden Age" re George Shearing albums I have for sharing.
These are already posted on my blog: kellysloungesoundz.blogspot.com
Beauty & The Beat (with Peggy Lee)
The Swingin's Mutual (with Nancy Wilson)
Light Airy & Swinging
Continental Experience
On The Sunny Side Of The Strip
These are the rest which I'll rip/upload if any interest shown:
Christmas With George Shearing
Piano
Grand Piano
I Hear A Rhapsody
On A Clear Day
The Master Touch
On Target (with Robert Farnon Orch)
The following are all with Mel Torme:
An Evening With MT & GS
An Elegant Evening
Mel & George "Do" World War II
Top Drawer
MT & GS At Charlie's
A Perfect Match (with Ernestine Anderson)
That's it.
Gee...it seems funny that no one here has the album "Inside", by flutist Paul Horn.
Also, does anyone know of an album (by Billy May), which might include his complete theme for the TV show "Naked City"...sometimes known as "Somewhere In The Night"?
Gil

Paris Jazz Piano

I must say that I already saw the first album posted somewhere in blogland. Here in both cases, it's my own rip from my own CDs @ 320 with complete high resolution artwork which in the case of "I Love Paris" was a six fold spreadsheet.
Enjoy

Thank you pal for Sonny Rollins "Valse Hot". I must say that I wouldn't mind having the entire album as you so kindly offered.
By the way how are you doing?
Did you recover after you lost all your wheels?
Cheers
@ quotewhore
Thank you for your hard work in compiling these Irving Berlin's YouTube videos.
It's very much appreciated and Irving Berlin has certainly his place in full here.
Thanks again
@ KellyB
I had a look at your blog and was quite impressed.
@ quinlan
All the very best.
@ Quinlan - I hope you like this!

Further to my above post to tripmaster (Feb 9), and to your request for the full album, here it is:
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=FFEBJJMT
I repeat the line-up: Sonny Rollins - tenor; Clifford Brown - trumpet; Max Roach - drums; Richie Powell - piano and George Morrow - bass.
This was one of the last recordings of Clifford Brown, recorded on March 22, 1956. He was a real giant of modern jazz trumpet, and his death in June of that year in an automobile accident was an enormous loss to jazz. We are indeed thankful that his recordings, all of them testimonies to his great talent, live on and we are able to appreciate and enjoy his tremendous virtuosity and talent today.
@ Quinlan & Mel
As promised here's my first rip/upload of some Torme/Shearing collaborations I have. It's "Top Drawer". They won a Grammy for this one. Well deserved. If it's a might heavy in the lower frequencies tweak the bass gain down a bit on your player amp. I did this and seemed OK. Sorry.

I don't know if it's a hard to find item on the blogosphere, an oop score or something like that, but, since it's two great jazzy scores, here´s the link to "The Pawnbroker (1964) & The Deadly Affair (1966)", by Quincy Jones

An absolute delight!!
I love Clifford Brown and for some odd reasons have only a very few of his recordings. So this one was more than appreciated.
Thank you pal for it and for your nice words about my family expansion...
@ KellyB
The Shearing/Torme is outstanding.
@ Yerblues
Quincy Jones is one of my favorite and any album from him will always be welcome here. Great stuff indeed! Thank you very much.
@ Jimi Vampiro
I have a number of Chet Baker's albums, but not the one you posted earlier here. Needless to say how deeply I appreciated it. Thank you again for your continuous contribution.
@Quinlan
my pleasure beeing here :)
In this month of February I keep being in a Michel Legrand's mood.
Here is another album from 1972/1974 sessions where he arranged and conducted all tracks, the main performer being the great singer Sarah Vaughan. Michel Legrand composed 10 out of the 12 songs of the album.
The track list is as follows:
The Summer Knows (from "Summer of '42"); What Are You doing The Rest Of Your Life?

@ 8HZUI - This was only released on Lp. Your best bet at getting this record is if you ask Rocket From Mars in his Vinyl Adventures shop.
I will keep a lookout for it as well. Rocket, being a fan of the odd rock / disco? oriented soundtrack may already have it.
I can't promise you, but go request it there and good luck!

I shall have to look up "lupus" to find out what it is - in any case my thoughts are with you and my prayers are for your complete recovery.

@ Mindy
Just did, and although the illness described would be anything but pleasant, I was relieved to read that "with treatment, most people with lupus can lead active lives."
It is my sincere hope that you are included and will receive the correct treatment.

@ isbum
Thanks for the jazz version of F&JAM, it looks good.
G'day Q! Isbum suggested I toss this one here, a fine jazzy late 60s scores...
Lasse Fernlof "The Chameleon" (1969), LP @192:

And you might get a kick outta this one too...

Take care pal, hope all is well with you :)
@filmpac
just to let you know that chameleon ost is incomplete, they seem to have chopped last track into two and made it track A2 which is missing
This is correct tracklist
Sida A:
1. The Chameleon (6:42)
2. Human And Chameleon (2:23)
3. Bertil Broström (2:59)
4. The Party (2:44)
Sida B:
1. Birthcry (16:51)
Still very much appreciated
@filmpac
Thank you for the Patrick Williams "Sinatraland", I'm a huge big band fan so I'm looking forward to hearing this, especially with Bill Watrous on Trombone...
Thanks!
@ Mel - Have a listen to this.
I don't know all the details, but another group of musicians recorded Claude Bolling's music from "California Suite".
The pianist brings MUCH more to the table than the OST recording.
http://rapidshare.com/files/235371777/Claude_Bolling_Elena_Duran.rar
@ isbum
Thanks for the California Suite but it'll have to join the backlog queue...
After reading your previous remark about that queue, I'm not surprised. ;)
Hello all....does anyone have complete LPs, complete CDs, or individual tracks consisting of jazz arrangements of classical works?
@ Rich
Here is one of the best in this category, in my opinion - Hubert Laws - Romeo and Juliet Overture (Tchaikovsky) - amongst sundry other pieces:
http://rapidshare.com/files/140058302/HubertLaws_RomeoJuliet.zip
Not my rip.
@ Mel
Hey, thanks for the Hubert Laws. I had completely forgotten about this. You're the first to respond to my request, and this is a great start!
@ Rich
Tchaikovsky again.
If you go over to my friend Kelly's great blog
http://www.kellysloungesoundz.blogspot.com/
you will find Shorty Rogers - The Swingin' Nutcracker.
@ Mel
Thanks, Mel, for the Shorty Rogers tip. He's a favorite of mine anyway. And thanks for keeping your eyes open for me for jazz versions of classical works!
@ Rich
I have found for you Miles Davis' haunting recording of the second movement of Rodrigo's Concierto de Aranjuez ( plus other tracks) which I hope will fit the bill.
Thanks to the original uploader; I think the link includes both flac and 320 mp3:

Thanks again, Mel. You certainly understand what I'm looking for!

@ Mel,
Thanks again, Mel. You certainly understand what I'm looking for!
Oops. I guess you could assume that I'm just overly grateful to Mel, but the truth is that I had a bit of a computer glitch there. I promise not to post all my comments in triplicate.
@ Rich - I often think Mel doesn't get the thanks he deserves. :)
Consider it "thanks in advance". ;)
@ isbum
Good idea. Mel now has two pre-emptive thanks from me.
Okay, jazz people. Anybody have any of these?:
COUNT BASIE: Echoes of an Era (2-LP Roulette)
COUNT BASIE & JOE WILLIAMS: Back to Basie & the Blues (Roulette)
COUNT BASIE & JOE WILLIAMS: Memories Ad-Lib (Roulette)
RAY BRYANT: Montreaux '77 (Pablo)
STEPHANE GRAPPELLI: Uptown Dance
PETE JOLLY: Herb Alpert Presents Pete Jolly
EARL KLUGH: Finger Paintings
EARL KLUGH: Heart Strings
EARL KLUGH: Nightsongs
CHUCK MANGIONE: Main Squeeze
BILLY MAY: Billy May Plays for Fancy Dancin'
YEHUDI MENUHIN & STEPHANE GRAPPELLI: Top Hat - Songs Made Famous By Fred Astaire
OSCAR PETERSON & JOE PASS: Porgy & Bess
PISANO & RUFF: Under the Blanket
PAT WILLIAMS: Think
(actually pretty much any Pat Williams on Verve)
Thank you!
@ Rich
To fill one of your two pre-emptive thanks, here is a classical classic:
Jazz Sebastian Bach - The Swingle Singers
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=5BLJ0DYU
Thanks to the original uploader.
And don't mention it!
A little something I thought might be of interest to the jazz crew. A smooth 60s double LP, not a film score. Covers included...
Klaus Doldinger "The Ambassador" (1969), LP @320:

Enjoy!
@ Rich
Stan Kenton once recorded an LP of music by Wagner. I have never been able to find a copy of the complete recording but I do have a track from it somewhere.
Now I don’t think this is a jazz record, but I came across it today and may be of interest to you: Kai Warner Plays Wagner. You’ll find it here:

Once again, many thanks! You're really helping me out here.

Peter Nero / Arthur Fiedler
"Fantasy and Improvisations"
Gershwin: Concerto In F
http://rapidshare.com/files/283691759/PN-AF_FantasyAndImprovisations.zip
@ isbum
I thought the jazz shop needs a little jostle so I'm thanking you for the Peter Nero here.
It's strange that I've never come across it before - he did record the Rhapsody In Blue together with some Gershwin tunes with Fiedler on RCA Victor which I bought when it was released in the 1960s and now have in digital, and I'm really looking forward to listening to this one.
When I think of the large number of regular cats at FranklyYes I am always amazed that you remember in detail what we like ...
Thank you very much indeed for procuring and sharing it with me.
"El Embajador y Yo" 1966 Cd @320
By
Jaime Delgado Aparicio
http://rapidshare.com/files/284104516/JDA_ElEmbajadorYYo.zip
Excellent! Lounge/crime jazz Import
@ Mel - To me, the blog is all about the handful of us who've hung together through these years.
The place is roots and home to us.
Often I feel like a stranger until one of you stalwarts pops in and reminds me of why I'm still here.
Nomwl1 once said he'd keep his blog going if it was only a few of us regulars hanging out together.
I feel the same way.
I also dearly care about each of the "shop owners". They give me so much joy when I see the sharing going on in them.
Random thoughts, Mel. But it's how I feel.
@ Mel - Forget what I said about the Jaime Delgado Aparito record being crime jazz - GET IT - it's just Great Jazz!
The booklet didn't come with it, so I'm not sure who's tickling the ivory's, but you'll enjoy him.
@ isbum
Thanks for your thoughts. I feel honored to be part of such a wonderful community.
I'll give the J D Aparicio a listen. Thanks for the tip.
@ isbum
It's Aparicio himself tickling the ivories.
Read this:
P.S. The Peter Nero is great!!
@ Mel - Honored to know that a few of my shares are leapfrogging to the top of your "to listen to" stack.
Glad you are enjoying them too,
my good friend. :)
Request:

I have the Jolly and Grappelli LPs on vinyl, not yet ripped. It may be several days before I'm able to rip them, but if no one beats me to it, I'll be glad to put those up for you. If no one else uploads them before me, I'll let you know when they're ready.
Rich:
Don't worry...I have waited sooo long that a few days more it dosen't matter... Both are untraceable..
Thank you very, very much...

You're very welcome. If I could afford noise-reduction software, I'd use it on all of my older vinyl uploads. I think I'm suffering from Soundforge envy....

You're most welcome.
@ Mel - Do you already have George Shearing's "Lullaby of Birdland" album?
@ isbum
Thanks - I think I must have nearly everything Shearing ever recorded.
When you say "Lullaby Of Birdland" album, I suspect it is one of the many albums released by MGM Records, all of which were compilations of the singles that he recorded for that label.
There may have been a few of those singles that I don't have; if you can give me the list of that's on the album I'll be able to give you a more definite answer.
For the Peter Nero fans who would like to hear him in more of a jazz setting, here is the Peter Nero Trio - Peter Nero On Tour.
My vinyl rip at 320kbps.

@ Mel - Pickwick label.
Don't Blame Me
Easy to Love
Lullaby of Birdland
I Remember You
I Wished on the Moon
Over the Rainbow
A Sinner Kissed an Angel
Summertime
There's a Lull in My Life
They All Laughed
@ isbum
Yup, thanks but these are all MGM singles, originally 78s, reissued by Pickwick. Got 'em all.
You have to be very wary of Pickwick. They were essentially a cheap label of reissues mainly from the EMI (UK) group who presented their LPs with new covers as if they were newly recorded, thus trying to bluff the customers into buying stuff they already had.
Caveat emptor!

I'm not acquainted with Dave Carlson but if he gets off the top of the grand piano and runs his hands over the keys I'd love to hear it.
You know me, I never pass up an opportunity to hear someone who's new to me.
Thanks!
@ Mel - I'll make sure you get it.
Here's CBS Masterworks disc "Gershwin: Greatest Hits" MLK 39454. Features Bernstein, Ormandy, and Kostelanetz conducting classics like "Rhapsody in Blue," "An American in Paris," "Concerto in F." Dave's Blues
Waltz Medley
St. Louis Blues
Lullaby of the Leaves
Minute Waltz
Slaughter On 10th Avenue
Limehouse Blues
The Carioca
Invitation
Entertainer's Rag
THXjay will put together some covers for this fairly soon, Mel.
I'll drop them for you in Filmpac's Vintage shop.
EnJOY!
@ Mel - I had no time to clean this up (pops and stuff), so it just plays as is.
Composer Pianist Peter Kater recorded in 1984.
"Spirit"
http://rapidshare.com/files/324136725/PK_Spirit84.zip
Not Jazz.
@ isbum
Thanks very much for the Peter Kater, I look forward to listening.
Doesn't have to be jazz - I derive almost as much enjoyment from Carmen Cavallaro or Roger Williams as I do from Dave Brubeck!
@ isbum
Compliments of the season.
@ Rich
You should download the Dave Carlson album that isbum posted here yesterday. His version of the Minute Waltz will knock you out! So will Slaughter On Tenth Avenue.
@ Mel - "Relax!" was more my bag too. The Kater had some pretty inspired writing, but who can go toe-to-toe with the set of classic's Dave Carlson played?
Cheers to you, Mel! :)Enjoy!
