@H2O

Daughter and I are reveling in Les Demoiselles...

One observation if that's okay?

Track 6 of Disc 1 -- Nous Voyageons De Ville En Ville -- is a corrupt file.

If you can, would you please upload it again?

If not... this is such a generous delight... thank you all over again.

I am going to foreward an email to you that I recieved from our friend Quinlan. He has completed the new excel files compiling our links, but has a few questions for you in reguards to your posts.
Please help him, if you can.

@ All - Quinlan wishes you to know that he will be returning from a visit to a far-away place shortly after the 23rd of July.
He will clear his social calendar of further disruptions and spend some quality time here with us. ;)

Isbum, seems to me to be a few FSM & Varese requests of late. Any chance of a "naughty weekend", to celebrate, erm... your return from the windy city?

stubbins said...

ARRRRGH.

How did that happen... again?

And again?

And AGAIN??

@H2O

Just downloaded Disc Two of Les Demoiselles... and my WINRAR tells me all its files are empty.

Sigh.

Isbum said...

@ chimesatmidnight - Don't worry about the 3 bells, i un-rung them for you.:)

@ filmpac - Ya know what? Perhaps it's about time for one of them "naughty weekends".
What cha think about the 27th to midnight the 29th?

the amazing mumford said...

Hey fellas!

While we're mopping up the late great Jerry Goldsmith's filmography (big props to Filmpac - you truly are incredible my friend) would anybody happen to have his score for The Don is Dead? Yet another score Jerry provided for a flick that has been all but forgotten, but apparently a bootleg recording exists.

As always, thanks to everybody for the great uploads!

@ ruggo
Which Gerhardts do you need?

stubbins said...

@rocket from Mars --

I have not heard much of Herrmann's The Impressionists LP since the early 70's -- I used to love it when I was a teenager working in the local Robert Hall store's stockroom.

Now it brings me to think of what I've read about the concerts he used to conduct on CBS radio. I know, I know -- he made everything slower as he became older and more unhealthy and neglected.

But... sometimes what he heard in music in his later years was more of the music than others did.

It also makes me think of the time Stokowski and Herrmann would spend by BH's pool together. If I didn't know it was BH conducting, I'd be asking myself if it was late Stoki... and not only because of the Phase4 engineering.

Much gratitude to you. (And, geez, have I got so MUCH of that for you!!!)

@ Isbum and Filmpac-

@ amazing mumford – Blush:) The Don Is Dead was posted by hornconcerto, June requests, June 22, 2007 3:52 PM

@ rocket – Awesome, thanks for Herrmann’s Impressionists. Any more of these rarities of his? Your post of The Planets was HUGELY appreciated on p2pland.

@ isbum - 27th to 29th is just fine and dandy by me, gives everyone a chance to get their ducks in a row:))

@h2o

I'm also having problems with Les Demoiselles De Rochefort.

If you could possibly do a re-rip I'd very much apprciate it; if not, thank you anyway for the wonderful music.

soulbrotha said...

Something is strange about the Porgy & Bess movie soundtrack that filmpac posted. The singers on the record are not the singers from the movie. Sammy Davis, Pearl Bailey, Dorothy Dandridge, etc, do not seem to be the recorded singers.

Can anybody shed some light on this? Were the voices from the film ever recorded "as is".

Zarm said...

I've seen several requests now for the Sky High score. I have yet to locate any substantial score, but if it helps, I'm happy to offer this 'suite': (My own DVD rip/mix of opening/ending credits)

http://www.megaupload.com/?d=E19XOM4B

soulbrotha said...

Never mind folks. I got my answer from good 'ol Wikipedia:

In 1959, Columbia Masterworks Records released a soundtrack album of Samuel Goldwyn's film version of "Porgy and Bess", which had been made that year. It was not a complete version of the opera, nor was it even a complete version of the film soundtrack, which featured more music than could be contained on a single LP. The album remained in print until the early 1970s, when it was withdrawn from stores at the request of the Gershwin estate. It is the first stereo album of music from "Porgy and Bess" with an all-black cast. Sammy Davis, Jr., however, was under contract to another recording company, and his vocal tracks could not be used on the album. Cab Calloway substituted for Davis on the soundtrack album. Robert McFerrin was the singing voice of Porgy, and Adele Addison the singing voice of Bess. The white singer Loulie Jean Norman was the singing voice of Clara (portrayed onscreen by Diahann Carroll), and Inez Matthews the singing voice of Serena (portrayed onscreen by Ruth Attaway).

@Zarm
Thanks much for the Sky High Suite!!! great job :)

@ isbum---welcome back kimosabe---as far as Quinlan's request. I'm not exactly sure what he wants. Those links (along with many more of mine) were taken down by Megaupload. If anybody wants---let me know and I can probably repost things.

@ chimezatmidnight---groovy. thanks for sharing that. THAT'S what makes it all worth while AND makes this blog just a wee bit different than most others around this thing called the internet. I'm so glad that album meant something to you.

@ tony---np. I think I have more Lai laying around (and i'm not lieing---unless The Great Lye Explosion Of '03 ruined them!)---don't even ask me what-the-heck all that means.

@ filmpac---very cool. I'm glad to hear that good buddy. plus I think I have more Herrmann stuff to share.

bye for now,

-Rocket

ps---heres a request from 'yours truly': does anyone have the Paul McCartney soundtrack album he did in the 60's THE FAMILY WAY that they'd be willing to post?

@isbum

I have an OST of Barbarella that someone provided in M4A (which I can convert). It has eight tracks, but I have no other info as to source or composer.

Also, thanks for Hawaii. I know I bought the CD at some time or another and was very disappointed at the sound of the drums in the introduction compared to how it sounds on the laser disk. I'm looking forward to my subwoofers stretching a bit.

Speaking of "jingles", does anybody have a soundtrack of 1970's television jingles?
I have been looking for one in particular: Drake's Fruit Pies used to have a commercial featuring these Black kids on a stoop singing doo-wop.

The tune went:
"Drakes fruit pies
Make me wanna cry
Come in apple and cherry

In the meantime, could I interest you in the music to the somewhat better-reviewed *Japanese* adaptation of the same name? I posted links to it on this very blog on "July 12, 2007 2:27 PM". Of the films, I have seen neither, but both have very listenable, but different, scores. The Japanese one is somewhat more portentous, the American one more "ethnic".

And in the next week or so when the Varese club CD's start arriving I'm sure they'll hit the 'net too! Firstly, here's the SciFi Channel's version of 'Earthsea', @192.

Secondly, I found a DVD today that I had totally forgotten about. It was given to me maybe two years ago, and I had never found the time to really take a good look at its contents. Turns out it contains a number of soundtracks in wma and mp3 format, including some Beltramis I had never heard about before. But the biggest surprise was a folder containing 25 tracks of a supposedly-Howard Shore composed 'Ransom' soundtrack.
Googling revealed that Shore had written a score for the Mel Gibson film, that was eventually rejected and replaced by James Horner's. I also found a practically dead torrent with what I guess are the same files but at a lower bitrate (mine are in 224).
I haven't listened to it yet, and probably won't until I get all of the DVD onto my harddrive, but I figured I'd ask
a) whether this is legitimate (i.e., not something like Michael J. Lewis' 'GoldenEye' or the "Frizzel version" of 'King Kong'), and
b) whether I should upload it.

Thank God this community is an eclectic group, willing to share more than the soundtracks that originally brought us together.

Sensuous, ethereal, sultry, dark, enlightening, exotic, charismatic, complex, simple. Mr. Roget’s Thesaurus is inadequate. There are really no words to appropriately describe LISA GERRARD.

She is an experience, a mind trip, an aural confrontation with immortality. Lisa has been involved in a large number of film soundtracks, including “Gladiator,” “Man On Fire,” and “Whale Rider.” As far as I’m concerned she is the main reason the group Dead Can Dance existed. But today, we do something else.

I’ve combined two of Lisa’s albums, IMMORTAL MEMORY (2004 with Patrick Cassidy) and DUALITY (1998 with Pieter Bourke). If you’re familiar with Lisa’s work, you’ll really enjoy these. If you aren’t, be ready to marvel at the wonder of the human voice, reaching in and touching your soul.

@ filmpac - The darndest thing happened. I was looking on IMDB for any info on the Richard Pryor movie "Which Way is Up?" after hitting zero's at the record stores.
Apparently the group who performed the title track, "Stargard", has vanished without a trace.
Producer and writer of "Car Wash" group "Rose Royce" has been replaced in memory by some pretender group.

This leads me to click on the listed composers of "Which Way is Up?" and one of them is Paul Riser.
BOING!! His only other film credit is "Mean Johnny Barrows"!

Bizzarre coincidence meThinks. Perhaps only because I came about it through the back door, but weird nonetheless.

Does anyone happen to have the
"Stargard" Lp that contained the title song "Which Way is Up?"
It's a funky GEM, should have beat "Car Wash" on the charts, but just didn't get the play I suppose.

Here’s something a little unusual. “The Moon Is Blue”, released in 1953, was hugely controversial in its day, being the first mainstream Hollywood film in the post-Hayes censorship period to use the word (gasp) “virgin”. Director Otto Preminger decided to film the play as written, retaining such words as "virgin," "seduce" and "mistress" in the script. The antediluvian Motion Picture Production Code refused to approve the film so long as those naughty words remained in the dialogue; thus, Preminger released the picture minus the Code's seal of approval. Rather than hurt the film's chances at the box office, Preminger's bold move resulted in a major financial success—not to mention the beginning of the end for the ancient, wheezy Production Code.

Also controversial in its day was “Comanche”, released in 1956, this time because of its sympathetic stance towards the Indian point of view. The love interest was played by a young Linda Cristal.

These two great scores in one easy download…

And such language in The Moon Is Blue got that film on the Catholic Legion of Decency's "C" (Condemned) list. The list became our guideline as to what to see.

Speaking of the Hays Office and the Motion Picture code, aren't you glad David O'Seznick decided to pay the $500 fine rather than remove "Frankly, my dear, I don't give a 'damn.'" from Gone With The Wind?

and @ warlock:
Thanks VERY much for Spidey 3! Any idea what the origin of those seven tracks are? Love to hear more. Are they from a release that's forthcoming?

also...
If anyone's interested in music from Adult Swim shows, I have a small collection of music from the amazing "12 OZ. MOUSE" to share. :)

Here, then, the rejected Shore: Ransom.

And The Choral Experience. It took me a while to find out what this album is. It is not a soundtrack, but rather "Twenty two original works commissioned for the Royal Choral Society and Bristol Cathedral Choir". Listening to it, it's pretty much what you would expect: very churchly, very medieval (or faux- so, at any rate). Most of the composers I have never heard of, but there are some "names" among them (besides Gregson-Williams also Stanley Myers, Geoffrey Burgon and Christopher Gunning).

Speaking of Gunning, I have his Poirot album (which I am hereby offering). But I don't have anything else of his. Some titles in his discography sound quite interesting, in particular 'Wild Africa' (for a BBC documentary, possibly?), 'When the Whales Came' and 'Big Battalions' (all of which are out of print, says amazon). Could someone help fill my Gunning folder?

Many thanks for the Addison stuff, very nice.

Constantino, I just downloaded some of this stuff a couple of hours ago and they seem fine, YOU MUST copy the whole file name:

Thank you for Choral Experience. Very nice. Its a bit corrupted though and some tracks are missing (it seems to start from 13). Would you be able to re-upload pretty please?

Why the unhappy face? I was only trying to help you?

You're welcome....

Hey Filmpac- just curious, any further word on that Waltons bootleg? I don't mean to be a pest, by any means... it is just that my 'soap opera' is only a few days away from airing... and I am getting progressively more desperate to find that one 'missing piece.' :-)

Meanwhile, for those Star Trek TMP fans on the board, stay tuned for a treat hopefully coming around Thursday evening... something, as the saying goes, "Completely Different."

Dr Blitzen said...

@hornconcerto
Please please upload Choral again. Its amazing!! Thanks

@Ennioman

Thanks. I was embaressed is all.

hornconcerto said...

@constantino: Are you sure you have downloaded both archives? There are two links, part 1 hidden behind "The Chor" and part 2 behind "al Experience" (which I suppose I shouldn't have done, in retrospect). If you still have problems, I will of course upload it again.

I have since listened to the complete album and can vouch for the integrity of the files (at least in theory, sans uploading/downloading mishaps). *Except*, sadly, for track 22, which has a "fip" followed audibly by a "bap" at 2:18. It's not my rip, so there's not really anything I can do about that. Maybe someone has a different version or has the CD and can do a rip of that track?

"Il Dio Serpente"
by Augusto Martelli

I have a pretty crunchy Lp transfer off some blog, it's also available as a Lp reissue at $20 U.S. so if you have it on Cd I would be happy to love it. :)

Dr Blitzen said...

@hornconcerto
Thank you very much for explaining that. I missed the seperated files in the words. Thanks for clearing that up. I am very much enjoying this and must thank you once again. Great upload. Please do upload more of this kind of music. I would be most grateful if you have anything else like this (choir or library music). I really hope you got my Immediate Music collection when I had them up on my blog before they were taken down by Mitch Baiwol (I think thats his name). Regards. C

Disc 2

I probably would have picked this record up anyway, but seeing that Johnny (Shaft in Africa) Pate was arranging and conducting the orchestra made it a must-get.
A dreamy record like no other.

@ zarm - I have good news and bad news on the Waltons front. The good news is I have it downloaded. The bad news, the cover pic seems to indicate that it's for the pilot episode, "The Homecoming", which we have already uploaded. What is curious though is that there a different number of tracks (40 vs 33), even though the running time works out fairly close.

Bottom line, I'll have a listen and if it be different, I'll shoot it up the line. Will be in about 12 hours or so, computer is tied up on other stuff at the moment.
