Can anyone advise whether either of those upped WOOLF's are the North recording? Have the Goldsmith and love it, want to give Al a chance :)
Such a perfect listen for a summer's night, with a breeze flowing through an open window....sorry, I've been playing this score a lot lately by coincidence!

@ Quint,

I was sure I had a good copy of EM's "Il gatto", but I've looked through the archives, and it's not there (Oh, Christ, what else is missing?).

Therefore, I'll second your request.

It's a pretty great set; if nothing shows up, I'll post my 128.

@ Ennioman,

J&S: so short! I'm surprised there's not more from those sessions. Maybe lost?

3410 said...

Actually, just listening again, I'll upgrade my assessment from "pretty great" to "great".

@ All - I'm very sorry to bring my personal life into this blog again.
Your donations gave me the time needed to pursue work opportunities in this city, and for that I am very grateful.

Their's a common saying, "opportunity knocks". The truth for me was, that nobody answered the door. I applied for jobs far below and higher than my experience level would suggest.

After much deliberation, I've placed the piggy bank back up. Please don't feel any obligation to donate and please, if you do, only donate what you can.

Regardless of the outcome, I will remain indebted to you and appreciative of the friendship we've shared here.

Thank you for hearing me out.

Request:
An ultimate edition/rip of Ennio Morricone/John Carpenter's The Thing (1982) with all of the music/cues from the film. Noticed there were 17 and 19 track versions floating around, but is there a definitive one someone has with all of the music and in sequential order? I would assume that this would be a DVDrip of some kind...Any help would be most appreciated...Thanks so much...

Isbum said...

@ 3-pin -
Thanks for the encouraging words.

I feel a little like "Rip Van Winkle", with the changes in how people get jobs. Since 2001 I've had two jobs, one by on property application and the second through a friends recommendation.
Now everything is submitted by computer, and my personality doesn't come across very well by checking yes and no boxes.

I know my personality comes through here, for better or worse. ;)
Anyway, I don't want to come off a a winer, just that Old Rip Van Isbum has to figure out how this new game is played.
I'm thinking the cover/letter of introduction is where I have to stand out from the pack.

Urg! I better leave it there.

@filmpac, again, you are a gent! Thank you for making this dusty cassette that has been staring at me for ages go away. Really nice Horner score, but hard to find.

The Thing bootleg/complete - ok, has anyone actually found anything other than endless edits/repetitions of the Humanity Pt.2 theme, as used in the film, or re-edits of the more than complete Varese CD? Or does adding the Carpenter-created drone in C make this score now complete? A copy of a THING boot sold for HUNDREDS recently on ebay....sucker....anyone have info, let's have it!

Would anyone have a line on the original score of David Mamet's REDBELT?

Rebecca Pidgeon (actress/singer and Mamet's wife) has an album that features a song or two from the film, but I'm on the lookout for the score by Stephen Endelman.

Sorry to hear about the troubles returning, isbum. I'm in the same boat... the world doesn't make anything easy does it? Best wishes in all things, brother.

Jonny said...

@goblinscore - "endless edits/repetitions of the Humanity Pt.2 theme" -Hilarious! But just about right...
I noticed through a search that CheefBrody(?) had a 2(!) CD bootleg version possibly? And although I'm all about Morricone, I actually like a lot of the cues throughout the film, so would like to hear a bootleg like this, hence the request...Even some of the dialogue was kind of fun from a recent viewing...

GoblinScore said...

@jonny - but the Varese/Morricone CD is more than all you need!!!! It breaks my heart to think people spend hundreds on a score that can be so readily had! Carpenter threw out lots of the atonal/orchestral material EM wrote, and reprised the aforementioned piece...a lot...and I LOVE this film, it's one of my all time faves, but the idea of a complete album is ludicrious! The "isolated dvd score" adds nothing to the existing album! Get the Varese, save your $$$ :)

Here's a question for the more adventurous of you out there...

On this rainy Boston night, I'm sitting in my room listening to the "LOS ANGELES, NOVEMBER 2019" recording, also known as the "BLADE RUNNER audioscape" album. It's a very interesting stereo sound landscape featuring background audio environments from the film and videogame, edited with sound effects and occasional music, and designed to be a sort of virtual sound tour through the world of the film. We're outside in 2019 Chinatown in one track, in Deckard's apartment in another. Quite an experience, giving a "you are there" feel while also serving as a sort of relaxation music disc not unlike those "thunderstorm" or "waves crashing" audio CDs you might find at your local bookstore. Any fan of BLADE RUNNER should definitely check it out...

My question is, would anyone know of any more discs like this floating around out there?

It'd be a trip to be able to just pop on a CD and imagine you're floating around certain classic filmscapes. For instance, I think a 2001: A SPACE ODYSSEY disc of this type would be really impressive (moving around the Discovery One, listening to HAL). Or the STAR WARS TRILOGIES (in the Cantina, on Endor, Cloud City). Lots of possibilities...

Does anyone know if more of these kind of discs already exist? :)

Ruggo said...

@jonny

If you pour a bottle of Pepto Bismo over your keyboard, it will cure that burping problem.

In my early blogging days I came to download a superb album by Bruno Nicolai titled "April Orchestra Vol. 2"...I believe it was originally provided by Attax back then...
Anyhow, would anyone among you happen to have the preceeding Volume 1?

Bruno Nicolai-
APRIL ORCHESTRA Vol. 1 (RCA?)

Thanks in advance for any help.

Cheers!

Here is volume 2 in what I hope will be a long series of compilations which I call "OVER THE TITLES"

Each volume represents only title music by an individual composer. It is not intended to be a complete list, but as complete as I can make it considering the sources and time available.

Special thanks to Jean for his support in this project and for the fantastic cover art. And also, a big thank you to the many uploaders who have contributed to this collection.

I have some of the other albums (some of them rare) I'm uploading, if anyone's interested in more.

Also, a request:

Does anyone have his album 'Inventions from the Blue Line?'

It's one I don't have.

Thanks!

More cartoon music now:

Here's an album released by Milan in 1993, entitled Tex Avery Cartoons.

The FSM set re-released much of this material in their set, sans SFX, but there's about 8 - 10 minutes NOT on that release on this one. For completeness' sake, I wanted to upload it as well.

One caveat: the only copy I have is 128kbs. I personally don't find this to be a problem, as the source material is mostly mono and contains SFX.

Hope you enjoy anyway!

Well, friends, my art sale idea went down in a ball of flames over New Jersey leaving me screaming "Oh, the humanity!"
While I try to get connected with other blogs that allow artists to show their works, feel free to leave some comments over there.
http://isbumsartsale.blogspot.com/

My thought was, if I had to sell them, I'd rather they go to people who I know a bit through this blog.
Also, because I liked the thought of giving something back to you for donating.
Look, you know from being here that I'm a little nut's, now I'm just proving it! ;)

I'm currently promised some seasonal work that will take effect around mid October (hopefully something better comes along) but in the meantime even tiny donations will help feed my cat's (Lalo & Pinky) and keep the electricity on.

I'm hoping this situation ends very soon so I can drop the "donate" button and close the book on this dark chapter in my life.

And most of all, thanks for letting me bore you with my troubles.
