P.S. I use either Gold Wave or Roxio Music Lab.

Anyone have The World Of Suzie Wong? Thought I had a good copy, but some songs are truncated.

Thanks in advance.

@bistis6,

oh ok. just wanted to make sure. thanks bro for the quick reply.

cool i'll try Gold Wave as well cause i've heard lots of good things about it. Thanks again pal. :)

Anonymous said...

Cool Edit & Gold Wave are the only two I use, except for a couple of converters. Particularly like Cool Edit to batch process wavs into mp3 & Gold Wave for fading in & out as well as trimming off excess stuff.

Cool Edit has some nice filters attached as well.

@ All

Does anyone have Trevor Rabin's score to the THE GUARDIAN?

Prvt share or anything would be appreciated.

cool thanks for sharing that info pal. i just got Gold Wave so i'll give that a whirl soon. Do you recommend I get Cool Edit as well? Previously i used Wavepad for all my audio editing.

Many Thanks.

@ filmpac: Thanks for DESTINATION MOON. I looks me some '50s sci-fi music!

filmpac said...

@ danny80 - That's some tough requests you got there. The ones you asked "Is there actually existing scores for", the answer is no, not to the best of my knowledge. Some of your other requests are also missing in action, most notably Shirley Walker's "Final Destination 3", which is frequently requested but never delivered.

Howevere, you can get "Seraphim Falls" at a blog called You Still Know The Score, along with some other hard-to-find complete isolated scores.

I'm working on a couple from your list as we speak, but more on that later.

@Donovan's Brain - Give me a few minutes and I will have a link for the Johnson conducted NORTH BY NORTHWEST @320. The opened files will be marked (lp). The tracks are from the cd and not the lp. I use the (lp) as a way to I.D. some of my music files.

@The Long Island Ripper

Would suggest you use whatever you're comfortable with. Can't say Cool Edit is the best, just what I've been using. I'm pretty much an idiot when it comes to this kinda stuff. Certainly others are much more knowledgeable than I.

Hello,

Do you think it is possible to re-up the soundtrack to "After Dark, My Sweet" by Maurice Jarre?

A good friend of mine gave me an .xls document from this site with a huge variety of rare OST's, and I saw that particular one.

However, upon copying the link, it appeared as a dead link.

If you can re-up that soundtrack, that would be great!

If not, it is fine.

Excellent site, and keep up the good work.

@Donovans Brain - Thank you so much for Herrmann's Symphony #1. I have never heard the Sedares conducted version. My Herrmann conducted version comes from the Unicorn album released in the 1970s. The album has a huge opening plant on the cover. I have never seen the cd cover you sent with the tracks.

@gogol - Here are 2 suites by composer Maurice Jaubert and 2 suites by composer Joseph Kosmo. All 4 suites are for Carné films and they make up the cd "Musiques de film de Marcel Carné".

Part 1: Maurice Jaubert
1. Le jour se leve - 21:44 minutes @320
2. Quai des Brumes - 27:28 minutes @320

MASTER OF THE WORLD (LP only)
THE MAGNIFICENT AMBERSONS (Preamble)
THE GREAT GATSBY (Paramount 2 LP only)
DAYS OF HEAVEN (Pacific Arts LP only)
THE ELEPHANT MAN - (Milan)
ST. LOUIS BLUES (anything from this Nat King Cole film) By-the-way, this is a very good film about the life of W.C.Handy. It also stars the gorgeous feline powderkeg Eartha Kitt. See it if you can. Plus composer/conductor Constantine Bakaleinikoff has a small roll as, you guessed it, a conductor.

The Herrmann Symphony is paired with his recording of a terrific choral piece he composed called The Fantasticks(nothing like that musical.) Both were released in 1993 on the Unicorn-Kanchana label. The pic is from the cover of that release.

I'll upload that too in case anyone's interested.

@Donovans Brain - I would be grafteful if you uploaded Herrmann's The Fantasticks. I have it but it is also 56kbs. My friend Jorge sent it to me and looking back the bit rates vary with a lot of what he sends. I never thought about kbs until I found the Filmscorium. I wouldn't mind an upgrade.

@ gunshotwound - Downloading a vinyl rip of St Louis Blues as I speak, but alas, it is only @128. It's gonna take a while (comin' down fairly slow), so it'll be tomorrow. If anyone can improve on the bitrate, please go right ahead.

Clint's archive said...

@ gunshotwound

Oh man, you've picked something very close to my heart with St Louis Blues, a film very close to my heart, I watched this as a kid it moved me, and has stuck with me ever since. A beautiful film.

Did you know that the young WC was played by...the late great Billy Preston?

Well, useless bit of trivia over with today.

Of course I second that request, but in the meantime, many years ago I tried to track down a soundtrack for it, didn't even know if it existed, days before the web et al. The closest I could find was an Eartha Kitt CD that contained a couple of tracks from the film and a couple of additional Kit songs also written by Handy, all from 1958.

So right now I will rip these from that CD @ 320 and put those up, I'm sure there must be other CD recordings out there from Nat King Cole, Pearl Bailey, Mahalia Jackson etc
Sounds like a great reason for putting together a private comp! ;-)
And I suppose these tracks would help as a starter, of course I'd be happy to make up the artwork if it happened..

Right, will post in a short while.
@ Filmpac
Thanks for working on the LP rip, at least we will have some clue to the contents and how it sounds.

Ok, Here is a 5 track EP I put together from Eartha Kit, contains 5 tracks (stunning Mono remasters)
2 Tracks from the film St Louis Blues
2 Additional tracks written by WC Handy

As an additional track I've added a quite beautiful tune from the same CD, for anyone in reflective mood about spending a long hot, perfect summer day with a loved one, you couldn't really go wrong with this beauty, LAZY AFTERNOON.

Thanks a million, no a BILLION, for the link!

Anyways, thanks for the link.

@ gunshotwound & ennioman - Sad to report that the St Louis Blues I downloaded turns out to be the Eartha Kitt album, not the film soundtrack. Some tosser had it mislabelled. I'm not even having much luck finding a track list. The good news is Soundtrack Collector does report the existence of a soundtrack on LP. This sounds like something Quinlan might have, cross fingers he does when he pops back into the shop.

@ big cheeze - I missed seeing your request back on the 10th, happy to have spotted it now...

George Duning "The World Of Suzie Wong" (1960), @224:

@ isbum - You've mentioned before your difficulty in getting hooked on Duning, this might be the one to turn you around. Got a lovely jazzy feel to it.

@ score-brother - Most welcome. Most of the other Jarres I have posted are still alive, but if you come across any other dead links please feel free to ask for a re-upload. One of my favs.

A while back now, I asked for Georges Delerue "A Man For All Seasons". I understand it is very dialogue heavy, and apparently has 4 tracks. I am now only after the 4th track, called "Dialogue Four" (28:30), to complete this album.

If anyone can help it would be much appreciated. At 192 bitrate please (or better), to match the other three tracks I already have. Thanks in anticipation.

When/if you complete A MAN FOR ALL SEASONS, would you keep me in mind for a share? Been looking a long, long time for it.

@ennioman - Thank you. thank you for those Kitt/Handy tracks. I saw SLB about 2 years ago on Turner Classic Movies and loved it. I had heard and read about it for many many years but had never seen it.
We can only hope that somebody out there has the LP.

@ gunshotwound - Love the score to this, John Morris got it just right. Samuel Barber's Adagio was used in quite a few movies around the same time (Platoon, Gallipoli), and fits perfectly here too...

John Morris "The Elephant Man" (1980), @320:
http://rapidshare.com/files/129275054/JM-ElephantMan.zip

Got most of the others on your list too, but if anyone else can do them, please feel free. I'm a bit tied up at the moment.

@ quinlan - Pity that, I thought you'd be a natural to have St Louis Blues. No need to be bummed out, I'm thinking most of the songs are probably available on the performers compilations, so all we need is a tracklist to work off. Anyone?

@ ruggo - Avax is down for me too at the moment, I've tried a few times over the last couple of days. No idea what is happening there.

Clint's archive said...

Phew hello boys and girls.

@ Filmpac, Shotgunwound, Quinlan et al.

Just spent the last couple of hours trying to do some digging on this St. Louis Blues Mystery.

And I really don't think there was an official soundtrack?

Even though S/C lists 2 releases, I think they were simply tie in albums released on the back of the film. Firstly the LP listed as a Capital release was in fact an album by Cole featuring (under Riddle's arrangements) songs by Handy and features nothing by the other artists involved with the film.

Second, and I have a feeling Filmpac that this was the album you hit upon, the 2nd listed LP on the RCA label, was just an Eartha Kitt album, again featuring Handy songs but also featured nothing from any of the other artists involved.

It's amazing to think that this film has never had any home video release, I mean nothing, not even a VHS release!

I have an old off the air recording, but this is at my parents house in storage at the moment.

Anyway, not happy I went back and checked IMDB, tried their soundtrack link and came up with this listing:

"Morning Star"
Written by W.C. Handy
New lyrics by Mack David
Sung by Nat 'King' Cole

"Yellow Dog Blues"
Written by W.C. Handy
New lyrics ("Sheriff Honest John Bale") by Mack David
Sung by Eartha Kitt

"Careless Love"
Written by W.C. Handy
Additional lyrics by Martha Koenig and Spencer Williams
Performed by Nat 'King' Cole and Eartha Kitt

"Friendless Blues"
Written by W.C. Handy
Lyrics by Mercedes Gilbert
Sung by Eartha Kitt

"Chantez Les Bas"
Sung by Eartha Kitt

"He That Sows In Tears"
Sung by Mahalia Jackson and chorus

"Hush the Wind"
Sung by Mahalia Jackson, Pearl Bailey and chorus

"Steal Away To Jesus"
Sung by Mahalia Jackson and chorus

"Saint Louis Blues"
Written by W.C. Handy
Performed by Nat 'King' Cole and Pearl Bailey
Later sung by Eartha Kitt, then Nat 'King' Cole, with orchestra conducted on-screen by C. Bakaleinikoff

So I think we could have the basis here to possibly arrange our own soundtrack? We would need CD rips if poss, and as you say they could exist on comps' or greatest hits collections etc. I know the Cole album mentioned above was released on a CD I think doubled up with another studio album of his? Eartha Kitt, I have a couple of her songs plus some bonus tracks she covers of the WC Handy tunes, as featured in the EP I put together.. so I think it could be possible to put something pretty good together. If you think it is possible and worth a go, I will put something together in the way of covers.. It's just becoming a bit of an itch now I can't scratch, Christ knows why this wasn't issued properly at the time, considering the recording artist were bloody massive! It remains a complete mystery???

@filmpac - Thank you for MASTER OF THE WORLD. I love Vincent Price, especially his horror films of the 60s & 70s.
I went to Morricone Lover's blog and I found DAYS OF HEAVEN. I don't know why I didn't think to try there in the first place.
Regarding the GATSBY LP, I know it is a collection of songs. I had the 2-lp set at one time but I don't know what happened to it.

@ennioman - I checked IMDB soundtrack listing for ST. LOUIS BLUES also. My problem is I don't have access to any music other than what I can find on the blogs. So all I have is the 5 tracks you have already shared. Maybe eventually somebody can find the soundtrack songs and put them in a collection. We can only hope.

@All - Slowly but surely, with the generous help of all you guys, I have been able to convert a great deal of my lp's to digital files. I can not express my gratitude enough. If I knew how and had the correct equipment I could have done it myself, but I don't. But that is Ok for if I had done it all myself I never would have met you guys.

@ gunshotennio - Sounds like a plan for St Louis Blues. My initial attempts have quickly shown the Mahalia Jackson tracks will probably be the toughest hurdles to clear, those tracks don't even seem to appear on compilations. Sigh (:

@ all - Yes, just to confirm, the FSM western box we are chasing is indeedy one entitled "The Naked Spur", comprising 5 classic MGM western scores on 3 CDs. It is already sold out, in only a matter of days! Can't help but suspect that eBayers are responsible for this situation.

This one is The London Symphony/Goldsmith from 2001, with covers and ok sound at 320. The usual suspects, but Supergirl, Planet of the Apes and world premiere of a Rudy suite are the draws this time 'round

I've had this sitting on my hard drive for a while now, had another listen yesterday and still can't quite decide what to make of it. Either a possible misfire for the usually reliable Garvarentz, or getting into a genre he wasn't comfortable with, or maybe it's just me and it's great and I'm missing it. Regardless, it hasn't been shared before methinks...

Next up (sorry no time for love tonight, Dr. Jones!) is the last one I have that hasn't been put out already (the Charles Fox conducted one in Japan, and JG in Barcelona '99 I've seen on other blogs), is the LSO @ the Barbican in '89 - the draw here is a really cool suite from Hoosiers, sans electronics, and The Artist Who Did Not Want To Paint. Thought I should mention this, first time I've ever heard of ANY virus connected with audio files. You can read all about it here...

http://www.kaspersky.com/news?id=207575664

The marker is activated automatically during file playback. It opens an infected page in Internet Explorer where the user is asked to download and install a file which, according to the website, is a codec.... so don't agree to any such thing!

@ tony - Please consider this for posting at your blog. The link is still active and it's a nice score.

Not much of a cover on this Lp, but if you find time (: I would appreciate seeing what you'd come up with.

So much for a subtle hint there. ;)

@filmpac - Thanks a bunch for the Raksin. Wonderful.

Could somebody tell me exactly what "library" music is? You guys talk about it all the time and folks upload it. I don't think I have ever downloaded any, or if I did I was not aware of it.

Hello.

O know it's quite improbable any of you own this soundtrack but... I'd like to get Anouar Brahem's Les Silences du Palais (in English : 'The Silences of the Palace', and in arabic 'Samt el Qusur').

Thanks in advance...

Re. "Saving Franklynot"

Like Filmpac I tend to have a lot of "private" conversations with Isbum as I do most of the art and maintanence for his sites. I've just said to him that I haven't added my support here because putting my feelings down on paper (well, screen) isn't my strong point but thought what the hell, just do it anyway.

So first of all let me just re-iterate what Filmpac has said, that Isbum is a kind and very selfless person who would never dream of asking for help if it were not absolutely necessary. We've spoken at length behind-the-scenes and I know that he felt both reluctant and embarassed even to consider this option, but knowing the situation, all I can stress is that he genuinly needs a helping hand at this time and I'm sure that (knowing how hard he's trying) he'll be back on his feet in the very near future.

I've known Isbum (like lot's of you) for a long time, and have gotten to know him very closely over the last several months of working together on various projects. He, along with a few other "Blogmasters" were my original inspiration for starting my own music site, it's impossible to say how grateful I am for all the countless hours I've spent reading the wonderful conversations we get here in this meeting place of ours, not to mention the music downloads.

I don't show my face around here that much these days (usually because I'm either doing jobs for Isbum or messing around on my own site) but I'm sure most of you know me and will join me in wishing Isbum all the very best luck in his efforts to get back on his feet. He's one of Blogland's finest and a true Gentleman.

I know he feels humbled by the help already offered by the amazing folks here. Keep your spirits up Isbum and things will work out OK :)

Thanks for listening to my ramblings folks, and here was me saying I don't like putting my thought's down into words :)

@ All - I’m agree with, filmpac, tony, rugoo, thx, it’s easy to download also to upload, but it seems not be the same for help a friend, maybe some will not appreciated my very bad English, I don’t care about that , You don’t like me, I don’t care about that, but I’m care about our friend Isbum, I’m not longer in your community but I can read , and I read all the post I can before coming in. I also write to isbum, and always receive answer very kind to my messages, you will never find a blog like this, I’m sure of that, I’m coming from a lot of U.S forum, there always about War, Political, Injuries ETC… and never about the subject of the discussion, this are not the case here. That’s a simply good reason to help even with a very small contribution, everybody could given a contribution it’s absolutely impossible that’s some could not given something. I’m sorry about my hard language but it is so, everybody can help, that’s what I meant EVERYBODY.
A Much your saving with the Blog , think about it…
Don't let this blog Away please.

@jean, et al

Thoughts from the heart have their own language. Their grammar is unique to understanding, not to a proper alignment of words and punctuation.

I don’t think any of us would attempt to communicate in your tongue, nor that of many who visit this blog and, not speaking English as their number one language, make an effort to communicate.

Thank you for expressing yourself so well and reflecting the true goal of this community: a coming together in friendship through a common cause. Whether it is music or companionship, we have found a haven which must be preserved.

I may be naive, but I guess all the people around here are pretty much the same regarding the blog, its purpose and all the bound it created among everyone. And its creator as well.
My english may be crap as well sometimes, but in a nutshell : If we all enjoy this place and all what it's bringing (pleasure, knowledge, whatever you may like) and if isbum needs a hand, then it's time to do the right thing.
So, pal : I'm not a regular around here, but I read the blog a lot and from time to time, i bring something of my own. But for all this blog brought me and all the good time i'm having : you can count on me for this one. Get well soon.

Very nice and honest words, Jean.

You hit the the nail on the head:
It is as easy as transferring files. We are all just a few clicks away from helping our host to get out of his predicament.

Jean said...

@ All - Thank you for your leniency about my bad English and for understanding my words, I give you all my thanks for that. But I am a little sad for what I’m see on the blog, so many peoples each days and now only a few till this morning , what meant that, I’m sure some peoples help without said anything that’s great, but it’s so easy to make a request for a download, don’t be a shame to help your friend he need hit, on place to ask a request , just write Isbum you can count on me! And that’s all. And do it. I know I’m far away from you but I am just at one click for help and ill do it. It’s fast and easy just one click your contribution and it’s over for you , but not for isbum he must be very embarrassing to ask some help, but please my friend don’t, it must be an honour for us to help you, that’s what I think. I’m finish to harass you but I hope I will see more move on the blog for helping our friend. A great peoples like the U.S.A. Well guys I don’t believed.

Thanks again for Dante's Peak....all of the little things that were not on the commercial release of the score are there. At last! I can't wait to hear Bridge to Terabithia....that commercial release was a joke. I hope the goodies are there.

@isbum

I am so sorry to hear about your troubles. If I were not broke and out of work, I would have been among the first to contribute. You don't know what you guys here have done for me over the past months. I sure hope you get out of this mess!

@ gunshotwound - Mono remastered, one of those twofer discs, so I've also upped the other score. Normally I would have put both in the one archive, but with rapidshare playing ever so nice of late I've done them separate so folk don't have to waste bandwidth, if they don't want both. Enjoy...

Mario Nascimbene "The Vikings" (1958), @192:

already posted at the euro scores forum, but i figure ask here as well...plz disregard if you've already read this...

okay...not so much asking for a request here, but more for some recommendations...

i've been sort of in an introspective and moody state of being as of late, i'm in need of some new inspiration musically, and i am seeking something tragically beautiful...a very particular melodramatic, beautiful, yet melancholic perhaps even dark sound?...i guess to put it simply, some beautiful music in a minor key...so hard to describe but i guess some examples would probably communicate better what im looking for...think Yann Tiersen's 'Comptine D'un Autre Ete L'Apres Midi' from the Amelie OST, or Joe Harnell's Incredible Hulk theme...Jerry Goldsmith's main theme to Cassandra Crossing...i hope i'm making sense here, but i was hoping some of you guys could help me out...many thanks!!

Suggest John Barry: "Out Of Africa" or "Somewhere In Time." Soundtracks

Classical:
Faure: "Requiem"
Tchaikovsky "Swan Lake" or "Romeo & Juliet Overture."
Puccini: "Madam Butterfly"
Samuel Barber: Adagio for Strings"

Or, make a loop out of Andrew Lloyd Weber's "Pie Jesu" from his Requiem and you'll die from terminal beauty.

GSW said...

@filmpac - Thanks for the 2 Nascimbene's. Lost both of my LP's many moons ago.

@isbum - Much thanks for OUTER LIMITS and everything you do for all of us.

@tripmaster

I would concur with ruggo's suggestions, particuarly the Adagio for Strings by Barber. And almost anything by Tchaikovsky will rip your heart out. But the first thing that came to my mind based on your Hulk theme reference, was the score to Schindler's list by John Williams. Hauntingly beautiful it is, even without the attachment of the film's subject matter. The end credits featured the melody on piano, much like the "lonely man" theme from The Incredible Hulk.

@ gunshotwound

It’s not easy to define “library” music. Usually, it is orchestral music especially composed and recorded for use in broadcasting studios for use with radio and television productions but not released to the general public - and it can also describe short pieces of music that seldom become well-known except for those composed by Robert Farnon, Sidney Torch, Leroy Anderson etc. I have been into this type of music for most of my life but I heard the term “library” music only recently.

As they say, the proof of the pudding is in the eating; so take time out to download and listen to some, with thanks to the original uploader, cosmo of http://cosmobells.blogspot.com/:

I agree with you concerning Fauré's Requiem. It's tremendously moving and haunting. Its beauty comes from its true simplicity.

Highly recommended.

Totally off topic here, but in case anyone's interested I'll be making my TV debut on Guiding Light this Thursday 24th. I, and my friend Drew, appear towards the end of the episode playing a couple of British businessmen cementing a deal with two of the lead characters. I'm the younger of the two. I won't be viewing as I find it incredibly difficult to remain objective about myself on screen, but I may peek through my fingers.
