@ isbum just returned from a trip and read about your recent difficulties. I sent you a little something via PayPal. Thanks for your generosity in this forum, and others you frequent. You are one of blogdom's noblemen!
@Mel - Thank you for trying to help me understand what "library" music is. I think I get it. I'll have to check out the blog you posted, download and see for myself.
@bistis6 - Contratulations for your debut. I will have to tune in and check you out. Plus I like to put an actual face to the people I meet over the net if possible.
This is a request for anyone who has downloaded The Outer Limits from RapidShare.......Could you find it in your heart to post all three CD's to ShareBee, SharOnAll, or MegaUpload? Please Please Please??? Thanks in advance!
I'll upload the OUTER LIMITS to megaupload for you, but as this is a new release and Isbum's links will be deleted Monday evening, then let's do a private share.
@jean - Thank you for the Vaughan Williams volumes. Don't have much by him.
@All - I just posted this link over at "Vinyl Adventures" but thought I would post here also. I recently found this site which has all different kinds of music on nothing but 78rpm's. The sound quality varies greatly. The music is PLAY only but I'm sure some of you guys can grab the sound from your media player 78rpm's
Thankyou so much! I know that I'm a bit of a pariah around here because I can't use the more popular sharing services, so you don't know how much this means to me! Just tell me how to cantact you, and I'll get right on it. I will be looking for you on Thursday as well.......not that I like the soaps mind you, but this is special. It will be great to actually put a face on one of the people that has done so much for me!
Not to worry. I like the song in question, as well as the movie "Paint Your Wagon"......not to mention the fact that I used to own one of the horses used in that film. All things are connected I guess.
@ jean - Belated happy National Day! A birthday gift, come join famed Belgian detective Hercule Poirot aboard the Orient Express, for a delicious voyage of murder and intrigue. All aboard...
Starting with this post, and in keeping with a desire to keep everybody happily downloading (Christine Cougar in particular, she of the Rapidshare blues), I am trialling ShareOnAll. Let's see if it works out.
Thought I'd give it a try and follow suit and TRY ShareOnAll.
Can't believe how easy to register (no cost) and upload a file to up to five (5) different services at once. Certainly provides at lot more options. And downloads were one click rather than waiting periods (at least for Depositfiles and Badabongo).
@ filmpak - Thank you for your wish, I don’t know how you feel it but yesterday my wife and I looking the Hercule Poirot, My wife have the complete collection of the Agatha Christie Books, Films even the series , she’s in love with the detective. I think I must bust be is second love, I hope so?… :-)
Thank you for the Link, and the other one you provided to me for my blog. I’m still working on Hit.
@ Scoredaddy - No prblem I will post the other one. By The Way it's my turn to thank you very much for the most beautiful LP from the RCA collection on your Blog, I find it today I'm appreciated mostly the Musical Director Charles Gerhardt I have the complete collection but Damaged by the Water.
@ Scoredaddy - Sorry I forget if some ask a Password it's ( shareyes )I dont think they must be many, I make a test on only the william Alwyn vol 2, I guest . :)
I'm working on a comprehensive compilation (that's really an oxymoron, so let's call it a sampler) of the music of MIKLOS ROZSA. Would like to have at least one track from each of his scores if possible.
Would also like complete scores or OST of everything he did for film.
I'm probably much too disorganized and dysfunctional to ever get it all right. But I do know I'm missing at least the following:
A time to Love and a Time to Die (1958) The Kings Thief (1955) Crisis (1950) The Asphalt Jungle (1950) The Bribe (1949) A Womans Vengeance (1948) Desert fury (1947) Time Out of Mind (1947) Song of Scheherazade (1947) Blood on the Sun (1945) Dark Waters (1944) The Woman of the Town (1943) Ten Days in Paris (1940) The Four Feathers (1939) Fedora Time After Time Seventh Sin
Any contributions would be greatly appreciated, even a representative track from each would be nice.
(Don't you just love people with long request lists?)
Several years ago I was at dearly departed Footlight Records in NYC. Among their display of recent releases were two Rozsa boots; the scoring sessions for LAST EMBRACE and EYE OF THE NEEDLE. I asked to hear a bit of both of them and was thrilled to hear the music for LAST EMBRACE as Rozsa intended, complete with female chorus. However, due to marginally better sound quality I picked up EOTN instead. I've never seen the LE scoring sessions since. There's a link for the expanded LE at El Septimo but the link is dead. Did anyone here ever manage to grab it?
@isbum, Thanks for The Return Of The Pink Panther. I bought Strikes Again when it came out on CD. Still have it. I am working on a stack of Disney Read Alongs to post on my blog, fully scanned and all. Then I can get back to OOP vintage albums and storytellers.
I have heard about your current situation, and I honestly feel terrible about it. I wish I can contribute, but I do not have a PayPal account. If I did, I swear I would try to help you out. Good luck with coming up with the money to save your place.
To everyone:
These, for now, might be my last request on account that I am working on my own blog.
Would anybody, anybody at all, have the following soundtracks/scores?
-Hero and the Terror -Out for Justice (Soundtrack) -Chances Are... -Sing -Three Fugitives
If anyone has any of these, let me know.
In return, I can try to make it worth your while by contributing a soundtrack you may want that I may have.
Thank you everyone for the wonderful soundtracks, and Isbum, I pray for the best to come out of your current situation.
@Christine Cougar - It may be tomorrow before I can post TIME AFTER TIME but I'll be happy to share. I know you have download problems so I'll need to break it up for you. Would you believe I STILL cannot get Megaupload to upload my files!!!!
@Christine Cougar - It didn't take me as long as I thought so here is TIME AFTER TIME in 4 parts. You can download all 4 parts with this single link. If there are any problems please let me know. http://www.divshare.com/folder/366971-3e6
Thanks Jean for the Auric. So far, none of your Chandos posts have requested password. Everything's good! By the way, for those who have downloaded these Chandos collections, the full-color booklets in PDF Format free of charge on the Chandos website http://www.chandos.net/
@ Scoredaddy - Thanks for enjoy the share link, And thanks for your feedback about the password it's only a protection in my megaupload manager to prevent accidently a delete folder. As you see i'm learning each day some more. :)
Sorry to not put the booklet in the folder, i'm making quicly a picture, it's really to much Work and I have many things to do. I'm up at 06 AM and go to sleep at 02 AM everydays.

hey does anyone have the 2fast 2 furious original motion picture by davidarnold...it is a very rare score...any help will be appreciated...thanks very much in advance
There has not been an official release of How to Frame a Figg (LP or CD). A company called Percepto was releasing all of the Vic Mizzy/Don Knotts films, but How to Frame a Figg is the only one (other than The Love God) they've yet to release.
There is the theme song available on Percepto's "Vic Mizzy- Suites & Themes" release. I have it also and would be happy to upload it if you need it. I also have The Shakiest Gun in the West (thanks to Isbum!!!), so if you don't have it, I'd be happy to share it as well. Just let me know! :)
sorry have not been about for a while, have been busy with baby freddie and other things but am back now. isbum can you help. how will this new law regarding illegal downloading and file sharing affect us ?
@Jean - As Juliet would say, "Your generosity is as boundless as the boundless sea." Thank you so much for all that you have shared.
@scoredaddy - Thank you for the Chandos link for the booklets. Now I just need to figure out how to convert Adobie into jpg.
@filmpac - I look forward to your THE SEVENTH SIN share. Would you mind terribly sharing TIP ON A DEAD JOCKEY?
@bistis6 - I watched you on Guiding Light today. Don't normally watch soaps but I wanted to check you out, so to speak.LOL Good job. Much luck in future endeavers.
@ gunshotwound - Thanks for your Cote, I think from Shakespeare wich I like very much but this must be read in English not in French. :)
Last Week I share the CD Rebecca you have see in the booklet they are a complete collection, about 17CDs, I buy them all If you would like to have them all please let me know it.
I ask you that because here in Belgium I must paid each time a Volume pack of 5 GB ( and it's quicly over )for down and up.It don't exist an unlimited down or up. By This way I can prevent for august what I'm need. Thank you.
@Jean - Bon jour mon ami. I am not sure I understand about the 17cds, but I would love to have anything you choose to share. Post them at your leisure. It is 5am here and I should have been in bed hours ago. You have a good day mon ami.
@ seasy - I will share this one when I'm got some more time to do it, Film music of john Addison, Clifton parker, and many others. It's a lot of chandos one. At this moment I'm very busy , I’m preparing my vacation, great work but wonderful since I’m go away for a while. I will not Forget. :)
@ Gunshotwound - You are exactly the same as me ,but I don’t think it’s a good things to don’t sleep enough! I thank you for your wish for a good day, it was a good day. I’m preparing some upload since I receive a lot of new CDs.
I meant in my post, the collection of Rebecca, a collection of 19 different soundtracks. But it’s O.K I will upload them . And everybody can make his choice.
All these are from new material ( CD ) recorded DDD and rip @320 all with the Complete booklet included 12 Pages , front and back covers. Here are the first one.
@ gunshotwound - It is most certainly possible to convert PDF files to JPG, in fact I have done so previously. But just for now, the totally free solution escapes me. I'll have more of a play and report back.
@ jean - Jean The Sharing Machine. Awesome, many many thanks for the Chandos collection, in the case of many films these are the ONLY way to sample thise classic film music. Enjoy your well earned vacation mon ami!
Jackie Chan Snake in the Eagle's Shadow question???
You all seem to be experts on soundtracks so here goes. Does anyone know the source of these 3 cues since most of the music was taken from other films.
Jackie get beaten up and then cheered up by the old man
Operatic Morricone style music when Jackie begins his training
Old fashioned Western style music when Jackie devises the Cat's Claw
Here is an update on my rent situation. We were handed a 3-day notice yesterday. A week earlier than expected. Payment must be made by Monday night or it goes to the owners lawyer on Tuesday. If their are any others here who wish to make a donation, now would be the time to do so.
We received over half the money needed to pay what is due. I've been very touched by the generosity and kindness of your actions on my behalf.
I have no other way to show you my appreciation other than to share what I have and what brings us together as a community. Music.
I hope that within the following posts their is something for each of you, to know that I care deeply for what you have done for me.
Before our ship hit the iceberg, I was working on a dream project for this blog. A rather kooky idea that I pitched to Franklynot's visual and technical genius, THXjay.
I wanted to create a Drive-In Movie Theater to have a place for the genre's we don't have "shops" for. Sci-Fi, Horror, Blacksploitation, Sexsploitation, Biker Flicks and on...you get the idea.
In preparation for this (which THXjay was not exactly enthusiastic about) I began pairing scores for the Double Feature's that were a staple of the Drive-In experience.
Hope I haven't put you to sleep with all this background stuff.
Here's my humble thanks to all.
Cue the music!
As folks are waiting for it to get dark, some music plays out of the speaker hanging on the car's window.
"Country and Western" '60's Lp@320 by Hugo Montenegro
Now some odds and ends: "A Patch of Blue" 1965 Cd @320 by Jerry Goldsmith With "Impressions of a Patch of Blue" Cd @320 Performed by the Walt Dickerson Quartet
Isbum - this is a great blog with a wonderful guiding spirit. The amount of support I have received here for Big 10-Inch Record is a reflection of your generous nature. I am honored to make a second contribution to the cause. Coming up momentarily via PayPal.
@ Isbum - Your a great honest man and you respect every one ,and I don't want to leave this blog. I give you another donation my friend, it's coming by paypal.
@ All- Please a little more effort, this is our all days familly blog, don't let him go away. Music is a part of our life but also our friendships.
I can't thank you enough for Time After Time. Until just recently, I didn't even know there was a soundtrack ever released for that film. There certainly isn't any soundtrack credit at the end of the movie (which I also loved). I've already used a few of the tracks in one of 'personal' scores.
@jean - thank you very much for "Buffalo Soldiers" by Joel McNeely. I really enjoy his music and I hadn't heard this one before :)
@ all - I second the request for "Three Fugitives" OST. I'm not sure if one was ever released, but I remember the film. Martin Short cracks me up!
@ Isbum - I have come to this blog many, MANY times and learned from everyone here. Learned about music and generosity. Everyone here has shared their music and stories with me and done so freely. I don't know how to upload music, and so haven't been able to give back to this blog. For whatever it's worth, I would absolutely LOVE to help support you in your time of need. You have created a place where friends ask each other for things all the time, and this is no different. Only now, though friend, I actually do know how to help give what you're asking for :)
@ all - I'm pretty sure there is no LP or CD or Cassette of this, but I'm looking for a song from "The Parent Trap II" called "Let's Keep What We've Got (And Let's Not Let It Go)" sung by Marylin McCoo. It played over the opening titles and credits for the film. Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.
@all again - One more quick request. I'm looking for a rip from a promotional record from 1973. The song is called "These Are the Best of Times" from the film 'Superdad'. It was written by Shane Tatum and sung by Bobby Goldsboro. The only release I know of for this song was this promotional record. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.
What a great idea for another site on this blog, I hope it lasts to see fruition. One request if it does ---from my childhood at an upstate NY drive-in: The Reluctant Astronaut w / Dr. Strangelove. (talk about double bills)
My prayers and best wishes are with you and your roommate. I wish I could do more at this time amigo but...i'm also tapped out for now. Remember: it always seems darkest before the dawn (unless you live at the North Pole---then oh well---you're just plain f-cked three ways to Sunday.)
wanted to share something that me and my two friends have been working on for months. it's a definitive collection of music from the indy trilogy. there's way too many links and info that i can't fit here. so is it ok if i can post the direct link to the post here? i'm not sure if itd be considered spam. cause it's not like im charging anything. Isbum please let me know if this is bad to make a post like this. i just wanna promote my newest project me and my buddies have been working on for months.
@ the long island ripper - Go ahead and roll it in here buddy! We like the "home-grown" stuff! I had to cancel our monthly project due to stormy weather, nice of you guys to fill in with the Indy's.
Your contributions to the lives of the many here can not be measured with any kind of $$, nor are any thanks from us sufficent enough to pay back.
Silently you have spread a ton of happiness with what you have "incredibly" facilitated by creating a "Trueand living" community here.
I too did put a small drop into the contributions, wish more could be done. At this time please accept it, hopefully can do more down the road circumstances permitting.
Again heartfelt "Thank You"s" to you for all you've accomplished and continue to do do so selflessly in bringing us together like this. You warmed many hearts my Good Friend.
I know this house is a house where many "Die Hard Lalo Schifrinites" gather in huge quantities.
Therefore I wanted to throw in something I found today, which may be of value to you. This is no soundtrack, though be forwarned :)) If this was already shared here, forgive me, please for the repetition. The link is from 2006 andstill alive, so hurry up before...
This is not my own upload, so heartfelt thanks go to the original uploader...
Holy cow! Don't pass up the Long Island Ripper's Indiana Jones fest. It's unbelievable!! Kudos to you guys, thanks for all the hours and hours of hard work.
Keep us informed when you update and if their's something here that you'd like to post, just ask the person who posted it. We're a right friendly group.
Here's a Schifrin that hasn't been out for a walk lately.
Well, it took 6 nights of downloading, but Outer Limits is in the bag. Thank you so much for going to all that trouble. After listening to all of it, all of my favorite themes (except one) are there. I sure wish I could rent the DVD sets to get that last item.
I need your help in identifying a piece of music I taped off the radio in the mid 1990's. I first posted this in the classical section but at the suggestion of di(aphanous I'll try here too since it might be film score related.
I recorded 20 minutes but my tape ran out before I ever got the name of the piece or its composer. It's a dramatic and atmospheric bit of music and I've always wondered what it is so I can listen to the rest of it. There's a dramatic highpoint where an organ suddenly breaks into the piece.
Thank you friend the pass are the same name of my blog
http://shareyes.blogspot.com/
just the name and with the same typo Not (Share... )
I'm sorry But I paid for all the collection of theses Chandos CDs and many, many more, the new collection of Maxos about 25 Cds, The collection of Membran 60Cds Bootleg for the U.S.A but not in Europa they are legal. And I'm share with all my friends from Franklynot , but I'm finding some of my share to an other blog. Sahre it's O.K for me but for Franklynot, for the rest of rare LP there are some on my blog it's only a begining blog the are more to comes. All my cover are marked and when you find one of your cover with another link it's not very pleasant. I don't expect something Only ask and a thanks that's all. In conclusion that's why I put a password. Please keep in mind the pass. :)
Anyone happen to have the soundtrack to "One Night at McCool's" by any chance? It contains a score suite by Marc Shaiman. I wonder if there was ever an extended promo?
If you have returned from your vacation in the sun, I hope it was a wonderful and relaxing time for you and your family.
I'm sorry you had to return to find some of your fantastic and expensive uploads misappropriated.
It may just continue to prove out the old addage that "no good deed goes unpunished."
The world is full of "givers" and "takers." I'm sure you have noted how many fantastic "givers" inhabit this community and I would hope that a few ungrateful "takers" don't discourage you from posting more.
I have been visiting your blog:
http://shareyes.blogspot.com/
It is a work of love for the art of the soundtrack and enriches all who visit. It is also a reflection of the man who continues to give us wonderful music.
i posted a comment a few days ago regarding the new download and file sharing law where they are trying to outlaw it.is it old music or just music in the charts. how will this affect us and are there any ways round it. let me hear your thoughts.
@ the score - You might need to clarify what you mean by the *new* law, as distinct from whatever the heck has been in place in your neck of the woods.
Basically, it has always been the policy that if the music is copyrighted and currently in-print, then you are liable to prosecution. Our policy here at Franklynot has always been to share vinyl rips, out of print, bootlegs, promos etc. Others might disagree, but we believe that these are all fair game for legal sharing. Nothing I've heard recently changes that. And in answer to your question, the RIAA (or its equivalent in your country) are far more likely to target the latest hit releases, than some 20-year-old film score.
Ways around whatever "it" is, are many-fold. You have no doubt seen some blogs go "private", meaning that you need to apply for membership. If you are speaking purely of downloading a zip file, then I don't believe it would be an easy matter to prove that its contents are in any way illegal. There are many other avenues of sharing, including p2p, at least one of which I am aware incorporates encryption, thus invalidating any attempts at packet sniffing to determine what you are downloading.
But the bottom line lies entirely with you. If you are not comfortable downloading something, then don't.
Thank you again, mon ami! You mean the password is shareyes; the Chandos collection is wonderful and I downloaded all CD's you posted! I visited your Blog and found many many rare nice tracks:
http://shareyes.blogspot.com/
Keep sharing, nice guy! When we love something, we have to share; that's the pleasure...
By the way, my country is sunny all 12 months of the year; como to Brazil your next vacation and let me know.
@ Ruggo - No I'm not returned from vacation, I must going in vacation I'm leaving the 30 august till the 30 September. And dont' be worried I will relaxing me, Thank you ruggo.
Absolutly Not ( I have 80 news soundtracks( hollywood earlies ) :) to post, I'm not discouraged , only not happy but any way I'm sharing for this blog and not for another one.
All my friends are here now. it's a pitty a so bad english I hope you understand what I mean.
@ Elias,Ruggo - Thank You For my blog to both of you I make this one by this way I can use my old vinyl, I loosing many of them you know that ruggo, But I'm still have a lot, But some are damaged by the water, and I dont talk about the Cover it's harder.
Yes it could be great to going to Brazil, Only when I hear the song it's realy full sun, I'm realy like very much this song. :) But i'm not remember who's writting this one? I think it was Ary Barroso but I'm be sure? But I'm sure this where used in many, many films.
I think the brazilian sunny song you mean is Ary Barroso's "Brazil", that talks about the the brazilian wonderful nature; it can be a Tom Jobim, a Dorival Caymmi, a Luis Gonzaga or a Villa-Lobos song too.
Oddball request: Looking for the song soundtrack album to Boys (1996), a film that starred Winona Ryder and Lukas Haas. Thanks in advance for any help.
@ elias - Is this the same Brazil song that featured in the Terry Gilliam film of the same name?
@ jean - Yes, it is a shame that some folk use your links without permission. I sympathize totally. Use of a password provides no problem. Please add my thanks for the expense and effort in sharing them with us.
Yes, man! The song "Brazil"(aka "Aquarela do Brasil"-that means Brazilian Watercolour), is played with no lyrics in that movie and in "The Eddie Duchin Story" too, among others. Was recorded by some international star as Sinatra, Nat King Cole, Ray Conniff, Paul Mauriat, etc.
@ elias - Very sorry it's my fault it's O.K now. It could be you encounter an other one , I'm don't think so but it could. Please use ( share ) I never use an other than those two. Thanks for your good night It's my turn now to you. Sleep well my friend. :)
Here are a special one Three Choral Suites Ben-Hur - Quo Vadis – King of Kings . Erich Kunzel . For other please read the inlet book 12 pages included. Ho! who says that the first , Ho yes it was Woody Allen , but this where about the sex, I’m sure everybody of yours know everything about this last. :) :)
I am in total agreement regarding the scores of Miklos Rozsa.
In fact, I'm still working on my Rozsa retrospective and have discovered that there are many, many scores either unavailable or so hard to find I can't ferret them out.
I have the Kunzel recordings of the Suites from Ben Hur, Quo Vadis and King Of Kings. It is magnificent.
In fact, almost anything Eric Kunzel records with the Cincinnati pops is worth having.
Thanks Ruggo , I'm also agree at 100 % with you for Eric Kunsel, I have many Cds of him, The interpretation he give for the films music it's absolutly incredible. I will take a look of all my Rozsa compilation to see if I cannot help you. @ Gunshotwound - many, many thanks you know why, it touch me very much.
@ruggo - I can help you with: THE WORLD, THE FLESH AND THE DEVIL (19 trks) SAHARA (1 trk-Main Titles;Gerhardt cond.)
I am compressing/uploading as I write this so give me a little bit and I will have it up for you ASAP.
If I had the know-how and equipment I could help with THE ASPHALT JUNGLE (Prologue & Epilogue) MEN OF OUR FIGHTING LADY (Blind Flight) These are on the Polydor LPs and I can't rip LPs. I'm sorry.
Hope you are OK with all the action going on out on the west coast.
@jean - Merci beau coup pour la Rozsa you have shared. I am also a Rozsa nut.
Should have found that track from Sahara. Thought I went through all the Gerhardt recordings, but somehow I missed the Humphrey Bogart where that must be hiding.
We're used to the baking and shaking, but this was my 13-year-old grandson's first felt earthquake, and it was a doozie. We were standing at the counter of a local Subway sandwich shop when it hit, and the clerks started freaking out.
"Oh, no," I said, "Not while you're in the middle of my order! Just hold unto the counter until the ground stops moving...and it will stop moving...eventually."
Grandson was quite impressed. And I got extra onions.
thanks for getting back to me.in england they are on about downloading and file sharing and are saying they can monitor you, they will then send you a warning letter then if you don't stop they will reduce your download speed.i hope it is just for modern music and not as you say 20 year old film music. and that the future of blogging does not look dim.
@ruggo - I have never been to California or experienced an earthquake. I would like to experience one but I think it would totally freak me out. You can keep the fires. It is hot enough here in Georgia without them.
If you have the Bogart & Flynn Gerhardt's, would you share them? I only have the SAHARA track from the Bogart and none of the Flynn. I have all the others in the series.
I'm going to have to investigate and see what I can do about ripping LPs. I found a componant about a year ago that included a radio and would play LPs, tapes & cds and it would burn cds from all of these. It was about $300 and I could not afford it.
@ gunshotwound, 3410 I have the Ion USB turntable. If you don't care about capturing the full-frequency of sound (bottom end is completely missing) and if you do not mind a low frequency hum that will not go away, then this turntable is for you. Actually it's quite the piece of sh*t and I would NOT recommend this to anyone.
Yikes scoredaddy! It's the one I have. On occasion I have tinkered with the enhancements to boost the base, temper the volume and such, but I believe your assessment is truer than I'd like to admit. :(
Occasionally it seems to pick-up frequencies from other electronic devices in or near the turntable. I recently begged Tony for a 2nd run through of Fred Karlin's "Leadbelly" score for this very reason.
I've had to stop or replace tracks due to this unexplainable electronic sound that comes out as similar to "Morris Code" on playback.
It's inexpensive, but for audiophiles, no doubt a beginners piece of equipment.
I didn't mean to exactly recommend that model - though I can see how it might have come across that way - rather that that type of device might be a better bang for one's buck.
However, Scoredaddy, if you say the Ion is a piece of shit, I believe you. :)
Come to think about it, rather than rag on one turntable, this conversation would be better if opened up to the others here who rip Lp's to share here.
Tony, Janus2810, Rocket from Mars, Mel (I think), Score Baby, 7 Black Notes, and a few others I can't recall, do have turntables of one brand or another.
A gathering of opinions would be very interesting to me.
Good day to all. I have an Onkyo direct drive CP 1015-A. It's over thirty years old. I've replaced the stylus over the years of course, but it's the best turntable I've ever owned :)
FYI--isbum, the problem with the Leadbelly transfer, I believe, was having the speakers too close to the turntable...I think.
My advice is to use the best turntable and cartridge you can afford. I realize that isn't very helpful, but unfortunately it's true. The quality of your transfers is directly related to the quality of the equipment you use.
As some of you know, I specialize in 10-inch records, which are among the oldest vinyl artifacts out there. They often are in awful shape. Getting good results ain't easy. Some advice that may be helpful:
- Clean the record first. I use a record cleaning machine.
- Use a good quality turntable and (especially) cartridge. Mine is a Yamaha PF800 turntable from the 80s, with a Sumiko cartridge. Make sure you level and otherwise adjust the darn thing properly. (Not so easy to do.) Make sure it is grounded - persistent hum is one thing my system struggles with. Keep it away from other equipment.
- Assuming your receiver has a phono input, you plug the turntable into that input, then take the line level output from your receiver to a simple converter with a USB output.
- Capture the input to your computer with Audacity (freeware).
- I avoid all processing software except for ClickRepair and DeNoise (use in moderation!), which are inexpensive. I can't praise these highly enough.
Finally, most records from the mono era were not recorded with the same RIAA equalization that is built into the phono stages on receivers. You really have to reequalize these recordings. I use a great program called Equalizer, which is freeware from the Australian fellow who invented ClickRepair.
I'm still using my Garrard 4HF turntable (British) that I bought nearly 50 years ago and it's still in good nick. I may need to get a new cartridge for it soon. Plays though my Teac AS-80 Integrated amplifier - right here on my desk - into the comuputer and the software I use is Audacity (freeware) which is great. I think I get quite reasonable results.
@ 3410 I did not mean to insult your suggestion. Your desire to help and share information is admirable. Sorry if my comments came across as a bit rude.
@ isbum Yes, I've had similar incidents with unintended "sound effects" but mostly it's the lack of bottom end that annoys me.
I've heard good things about this product: http://www.sumikoaudio.net/project/products/debut_usb.htm
My problem is that I only have a few LP's that I want to transfer and I'd hate to spend so much on only a dozen or so LP's.
I use Audacity and the Click Repair which is GREAT (as Buster mentions). I also apply SoundSoap but very judiciously.
@ scoredaddy - I knew you didn't intend on coming across that way, it just took me by surprise that the piece of equipment being described was sitting next to me! I had to laugh because my relationship with this turntable has been turbulent to say the least.
In the first several weeks of owning it, I seriously had thoughts of returning it for a refund. Partially for one of the reasons you mentioned. How much use will I get out of this with so many of my favorite soundtracks already ripped and available here and other blogs.
My hope was that I could improve on many of the ones posted previously. But then the bottom-end fell out. ;) Well, it wasn't there to begin with, but you get the idea.
However, I have discovered so many marvelous Lp's that haven't been exposed on other blogs, that in the end it's payed for itself in joy many times over.
Like I'm sure Rocket would agree, these are vinyl Lp's, you clean them, inspect them and drop a diamond needle into their grooves, they still carry the life history with them no matter what.
@Isbum; Scoredaddy; 3410; Buster; Jean; Mel; Tony - Thank you all for sharing the equip. you guys use to rip LPs. I didn't know my post started a discussion (lost my server last night) so I am late contributing. I use a FGserver SL-BD22 turntable. It is belt driven, has a laser rpm speed adjustment, ground wire and regular amp plugin. I can't remember what cartridge I have but it is in good shape. I use a Pioneer GR-470 Graphic Equalizer with 7 Band Linear control for each channel. It is also in good shape. My amp is a Pioneer VSX-2000SR with built-in 5 Band Graphic Equalizer. The amp is not in good condition and needs to be replaced.
My problem is I don't know what else I need to connect it all to the computer. I have an available USB port on the computer. I can't spend a lot of money so I need the simplest way to do this.
Since you guys now know what equipment I already have any comments, advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I have many LP soundtracks, classical and rock 'n' roll I would like to transfer to digital.
@ ruggo - I can still smell the extra onions on your post. ;) Glad to know everythings okey-dokey in Anaheim. Disneyland should buy that ride we had yesterday and add it to their "California Adventure"!
As you know, I made a mix version of our last project, "Dr. Strangebeat". Each track was stacked and moved around slightly until they mixed smoothly from one to the next. I did this by importing each .mp3 by selecting "import/add a new track".
The program actually failed at around 23 tracks, so I exported what I had and added the final 3 or 4 to finish it. You are in for a good mental workout my friend.
Griffin makes an inexpensive connector called iMic that takes the line level output from your receiver and turns it into a digital signal that then goes through a USB port to be captured by Audacity or a similar program. Costs about $40.
I have a 30 years old perfect and complete professional equipment to play my Lp's and I rip them using a complete Sound Forge 8 that I downloaded on the Net(the serial I found at astalavista.com). The result is exactly equal and perfect, but I don't like to hear Lp transfered, and I hate the use of sheap programs to reduce noise, etc. I prefer to listen them on the good old pick-up. Once I find the CD on the shop or on the Net, I use to sell the Lp(I had >1000, now only 200). So, I only rip them when someone ask me. I still feel pleasure on listening Lp's, but on the pick-up.
I forgot to mention the most important thing of all - cleaning your LPs before starting a rip. I am fortunate enough still to have a washable record sponge manufatured esepially for the purpose. It has been in my possession for longer than I have had my Garrard - give you an idea of how long that was!
As I no longer can obtain anything specially manufactured for the purpose, I use dishwashing liquid, which I apply sparingly to the sponge then wipe the record with a circular motion until all the dust and grit have been removed. Then I rinse the LP under a running tap (faucet) until the liquid has completely been washed off and finally I dry it with a soft lint-free cloth, also using circular motion. This may sound basic and unimportant but it works wonders and I cannot stress enough the need for thorough cleaning.
Here is a Gabriel Yared concert, filmed in 2007, at a l'Espace Cardin, featuring the composer on piano. Also, I don't believe that this has ever been released, but feel free to correct me.
The file is an mp4 (368.26 MB), has a running time of over 56 min and contains performances of Yared's scores to the following films.
-- CONCERT LIST --
Betty Blue - Betty et Zorg The Moon In The Gutter - Suite The Lover - Main Theme Wings Of Courage - Tango Camille Claudel - Sextuet The English Patient - Suite Cold Mountain - Suite The Talented Mister Ripley - Suite
Maybe someone on here wants to rip this into mp3 files and then share? Either way, enjoy.
@ ruggo Linking several tracks together can be done in Audacity by cutting and pasting each complete waveform into the same workscreen. Are these from a CD?
@ score-brother - It wasn't my post. My guess is it came from filmpac or voncheech. A good tip on utilizing the spreadsheet is jotting down the date posted or name of the sharer, prior to testing the link.
Philip Glass, in the tradition of many modern composers, has been able to survive in two worlds: the classical concert stage and film soundtracks. Thankfully, we live in an age when everything is recorded, and made available. Known for many of his minimalist compositions, he is yet able to meet the full orchestral and electronic demands of film.
From Mr. Glass’s notes:
The score for KOYAANISQATSI (1982) grew out of the instrumental style typical of the ensemble of keyboards, winds, and voice for which Glass had been composing for many years. The movement of the film from the organic images of the American Southwest to the hi-tech accelerated life of modern North American cities is reflected in his version of a modern synthesized music.
With POWAQQATSI (1987), we see the indigenous communities of the Southern Hemisphere impacted by rapid transformation through its encounters with the Northern industrialized world. Accordingly, one hears echoes of India, Africa, and South America in this 'world music' score. The use of percussion instruments from around the world further enhances this impression.
In NAQOYQATSI (2002), Director Reggio turns to a visual language heavily dependent on digital, synthesized images. With this film, the "civilized violence" in the narrative of the film goes beyond anything seen in the two preceding films. In this case, Glass chose a contrasting language for the music, "composing music for a large (acoustic) symphonic ensemble featuring a solo cello throughout. His instinct was to balance the quite startling effect of the synthetically composed images with a sound world of "natural" timbres. Furthermore, the solo cello — played superbly by Yo-Yo Ma - quickly emerges as the "voice" of the music, lending the score an overall human dimension.
This record reminded me of a song that I wished had been on this compilation. "Mongoose"
Do any of you have a good copy of this song you could share with me?
I sold off my collection of 45's a long time ago but I suddenly remembered what a funky rock masterpiece this was. Really used to "spazz-out" in my room listening to this when I was in my teen's. Funny just remembering it, all that energy!
Hello again. I wanted to invite you and your readers to my new social network that I have created. It's similar in appearance to myspace (minus all the hormone-crazed teenagers), but it is intended to serve as a hangout for artists, musicians, and music lovers. I have also included a forum category for music bloggers such as yourself to promote their blogs and share updates. If you are interested, here is the url:
You never told us if you made it through your troubles or not. The fact that you are still posting suggests that you did, but I would still like to hear it from you personally. We all care, you know.
By the way, I too wish to know the status of your financial situation...
That is, if you wish to share...
@rocket from mars:
According to the .xls document, you are the poster to the soundtrack to "Gotcha."
If this is correct, is it possible that you can re-post it? The link is dead, and I thought that my good friend Isbum was the originator of it.
& finally,
@all:
Due to a funny misunderstanding between me, my mother and an accidental click on Amazon, I am, hopefully getting the OST to "Hero and the Terror" soundtrack within a few days.
If this is correct, and I pray it is, be sure to keep an eye out for it on my blog. Also, I will take the time to share it with Isbum and the gang, here.
Take care everyone. Stand tall. Stay strong.
-Score-Brother (A.K.A. Alberto) Either one is fine.

Oh yeah. Schindler's List. What a magnificent achievement, both the film and John Williams score.
Schindler's List is a perfect example of what I feel can be the highest of all art forms: the motion picture.
Movies are a convergence of music, visual art and the poetry of the spoken word. A culmination of all our aspirations to express ourselves to others.
@ bistis6 - I hope this leads to more parts for you.
@ isidingo - Thank you! I did receive it.
My deepest gratitude to all of you who have donated. Sorry for not saying a whole lot.
Please know that any donation is most appreciated.
@ isbum
just returned from a trip and read about your recent difficulties.
@ scoredaddy - Thanks for the help.
Your constant good nature has been a guide for me. Warmest regards my friend.

Starting with this post, and in keeping with a desire to keep everybody happily downloading (Christine Cougar in particular, she of the Rapidshare blues), I am trialling ShareOnAll. Let's see if it works out.
@filmpac

The Other will follow but not today since it's here more than 02 AM :) I must going to sleep.
A time to Love and a Time to Die (1958)
The Kings Thief (1955)
Crisis (1950)
The Asphalt Jungle (1950)
The Bribe (1949)
A Womans Vengeance (1948)
Desert fury (1947)
Time Out of Mind (1947)
Song of Scheherazade (1947)
Blood on the Sun (1945)
Dark Waters (1944)
The Woman of the Town (1943)
Ten Days in Paris (1940)
The Four Feathers (1939)
Fedora
Time After Time
Seventh Sin

@isbum,
Thanks for The Return Of The Pink Panther. I bought Strikes Again when it came out on CD. Still have it. I am working on a stack of Disney Read Alongs to post on my blog, fully scanned and all. Then I can get back to OOP vintage albums and storytellers.
@ Hauntdmansn - Ooops. :(
They're all so "Pink".
Hard to tell one from another. ;)
rEqUeSt :
Is Godzill@ by David "thumpa-thumpa" Arnold out there, like the truth?
Thanks!
@ ruggo
If anyone answers the request for "Time After Time", somebody give me a shout. I loved that score.
Hello everyone.
First, I want to say this:
To ISBUM:
I have heard about your current situation, and I honestly feel terrible about it. I wish I can contribute, but I do not have a PayPal account. If I did, I swear I would try to help you out. Good luck with coming up with the money to save your place.
To everyone:
These, for now, might be my last request on account that I am working on my own blog.
Would anybody, anybody at all, have the following soundtracks/scores?
-Hero and the Terror
-Out for Justice (Soundtrack)
-Chances Are...
-Sing
-Three Fugitives
If anyone has any of these, let me know.
In return, I can try to make it worth your while by contributing a soundtrack you may want that I may have.
Thank you everyone for the wonderful soundtracks, and Isbum, I pray for the best to come out of your current situation.
Sincerely,
-Score-Brother.
@Christine Cougar - It may be tomorrow before I can post TIME AFTER TIME but I'll be happy to share.

Jackie get beaten up and then cheered up by the old man
Operatic Morricone style music when Jackie begins his training
Old fashioned Western style music when Jackie devises the Cat's Claw

@ All -
Here is an update on my rent situation.

Thank you again for being such wonderful people!
Isbum - this is a great blog with a wonderful guiding spirit. The amount of support I have received here for Big 10-Inch Record is a reflection of your generous nature. I am honored to make a second contribution to the cause. Coming up momentarily via PayPal.
@jean/filmpac/et al
Thank you for helping me flesh out my Miklos Rozsa collection.
So far compendium of individual tracks (usually one, but sometimes two or three per film) is up to about 1 gig MP3. Still need to add and refine.
When completed I'll upload and post the ROZSA RETROSPECTIVE for all.
@isbum
Sorry to hear that you continue to struggle. My prayers and thoughts are with you.
@ Isbum - Your a great honest man and you respect every one ,and I don't want to leave this blog. I give you another donation my friend, it's coming by paypal.
@ All- Please a little more effort, this is our all days familly blog, don't let him go away. Music is a part of our life but also our friendships.
@ gunshotwound
@disneyfella:
There is a release, but it is on Amazon.
@isbum + everyone else:
I would like to present the "opening" my blog. If you like hard-to-find stuff, I am your person.
If you see anything in your interest, feel free to download.
Hope to see you there.

Hi isbum---
What a great idea for another site on this blog, I hope it lasts to see fruition.

Isbum please let me know if this is bad to make a post like this. i just wanna promote my newest project me and my buddies have been working on for months.
thanks.
@ the long island ripper - Go ahead and roll it in here buddy! We like the "home-grown" stuff!

sorry to hear about the project. things will get better :)
take care.
@ score-brother
Is there a link to your blog? I tried to find one but your profile was blocked.
Thanks.
@isbum
Dear Friend,
Your contributions to the lives of the many here can not be measured with any kind of $$, nor are any thanks from us sufficent enough to pay back.
ENJOY :)

Well, it took 6 nights of downloading, but Outer Limits is in the bag. Thank you so much for going to all that trouble. After listening to all of it, all of my favorite themes (except one) are there. I sure wish I could rent the DVD sets to get that last item.
Name that tune challenge.
Here are two samples in a 2 MB file.
and here's the full 20 minutes - 23MB
Many thanks to anyone giving a listen.
@jean

Anyone happen to have the soundtrack to "One Night at McCool's" by any chance? It contains a score suite by Marc Shaiman. I wonder if there was ever an extended promo?
Anybody have MOON 44 (Joel Goldsmith)? Thanks in advance.

Do not be discouraged.
Here there be more givers than takers.
@isbum and everyone else.
i posted a comment a few days ago regarding the new download and file sharing law where they are trying to outlaw it.is it old music or just music in the charts.
how will this affect us and are there any ways round it.
let me hear your thoughts.
best wishes.
the score.
Hope that helps some!
@jean
Thank you again, mon ami!
You mean the password is shareyes; the Chandos collection is wonderful and I downloaded all CD's you posted!
I visited your Blog and found many many rare nice tracks:

Keep sharing, nice guy! When we love something, we have to share; that's the pleasure...
By the way, my country is sunny all 12 months of the year; como to Brazil your next vacation and let me know.
Au revoir!
@jean
I think the brazilian sunny song you mean is Ary Barroso's "Brazil", that talks about the the brazilian wonderful nature; it can be a Tom Jobim, a Dorival Caymmi, a Luis Gonzaga or a Villa-Lobos song too.
Au revoir!
Oddball request:
Looking for the song soundtrack album to Boys (1996), a film that starred Winona Ryder and Lukas Haas.
@filmpac
Yes, man! The song "Brazil"(aka "Aquarela do Brasil"-that means Brazilian Watercolour), is played with no lyrics in that movie and in
"The Eddie Duchin Story" too, among others.
Was recorded by some international star as Sinatra, Nat King Cole, Ray Conniff, Paul Mauriat, etc.
Hugs, nice guy!
@jean
Hi again, guy! Forgive me if I'm boring you:
The password shareyes is not working with some Chandos Cd's. Can you help?
Avoir une bonne nuit!
Rip due the quality of sound in OGG Variable @ 400 till 500 Kbps. Read the technical information in the last page of the booklet. And of course there is a password but you know The Number :)
Please forgive me for what I said but I cannot download a Rozsa , each time I see the name of Rozsa associate at a movies it’s like a drogue I MUST buy this one. I have more than 15 different suite, just from these three scores, but for me this one are among the best I’m never hear, maybe you have them, if not you will be very surprised by the quality of the recording and the interpretation of Erich Kunzel . I can assure you that, believe me . O.K I’m let my own feeling on the door. I’m really hope you will enjoy this one and for some to discover them.
The story have "Alexander the Great" and the Music lovers have "Rozsa the Great". Do you remember this words “ My Kingdom for a Horse “ Well mine for a Rozsa score.

Someone has AUTHOR, AUTHOR by DAVE GRUSIN and JOHNY MANDEL?
And someone knows a specific blog about Dave Grusin?
Thanks

Fantastic! I thought that Suitcases request was lost to the ages. You sir are very awesome! Thanks very much.
Btw, do you happen to know who composed that catchy piano piece that is played throughout the trilogy?
I recorded a bit of it here.

I think someone used to ask about the soundtrack to "Wlid Palms" (TV).
Found here.
@jean
Looking for anything (even a single track) from these missing Miklos Rozsa scores.
So far I have been able to locate material from 56 films, but I'm still missing a lot.
Don't shoot me for the length. I'm just hoping something strikes a note (or 41).

MEN OF OUR FIGHTING LADY (Blind Flight)
These are on the Polydor LPs and I can't rip LPs. I'm sorry.
Hope you are OK with all the action going on out on the west coast.
@jean - Merci beau coup pour la Rozsa you have shared. I am also a Rozsa nut.
@gunshotwound
A Last One for today!

thanks for getting back to me.in england they are on about downloading and file sharing and are saying they can monitor you, they will then send you a warning letter then if you don't stop they will reduce your download speed.i hope it is just for modern music and not as you say 20 year old film music.
and that the future of blogging does not look dim.

Double features. I know no one will believe me, but this is absolutely true because I saw the marquee myself.
Many years ago, small theater in Pacifica (just south of San Francisco). Double feature posted.

@gunshotwound
Thanks for Roza goodies.

@ Gunshotwound,
You could consider a USB turntable; something like this. I haven't used one, but it looks pretty decent for the price ($96).
@ gunshotwound, 3410
I have the Ion USB turntable.
I have this one in addition with the Remix Mp³ and I don’t have any problem to rip my LP. It’s simple to use and not very expensive.

Hello vinyl fans,
My advice is to use the best turntable and cartridge you can afford.
@ 3410
I did not mean to insult your suggestion. Your desire to help and share information is admirable. Sorry if my comments came across as a bit rude.
@ isbum
Yes, I've had similar incidents with unintended "sound effects" but mostly it's the lack of bottom end that annoys me.
I've heard good things about this product:
http://www.sumikoaudio.net/project/products/debut_usb.htm
@ Scoredaddy,
Oh, not at all. I'm sorry if it read that way. Bloody text; so hard to get the tone right!
@isbum
Drop a needle in my groove and I'd carry a life history too.
@3410
Textual tone quality. Place tounge firmly in cheek and avoid keyboard.
@scoredaddy
Trying to get Audacity to link a number of tracks into one long single one. Any ideas?
@ ruggo - I can still smell the extra onions on your post. ;)
Glad to know everythings okey-dokey in Anaheim.
Unless someone here knows of an easier way.
@ Gunshotwound,
Good news: you need nothing else - just run a line from the amp's RCA outs to the PC's minijack line in.
At least that's how I did it and it worked well.
@ gunshotwound,
Griffin makes an inexpensive connector called iMic that takes the line level output from your receiver and turns it into a digital signal that then goes through a USB port to be captured by Audacity or a similar program. Costs about $40.
@All
About ripping Lp's:
Good night, folks!
@ isbum et al
@filmpac
Thank you so much for "One Night At McCool's." I recommend that anyone here who overlooked that film to check out Shaiman's score. It's quite good.
Cheers.

Linking several tracks together can be done in Audacity by cutting and pasting each complete waveform into the same workscreen. Are these from a CD?

All The Boys Love Mandy Lane by Mark Schulz.
I can't seem to find anything on it.
Love the movie, love the music.
Any help?
Hello all.
@Isbum:
I recently viewed the spreadsheet document and found a soundtrack to "Gotcha," but the link is dead.
Is there a possibility for a re-up?
Thanks,

@ score-brother - It wasn't my post.
My guess is it came from filmpac or voncheech.
A good tip on utilizing the spreadsheet is jotting down the date posted or name of the sharer, prior to testing the link.
:) Hope that helps you brother.

I love Audacity, but the linking of files into a single track becomes a very cumbersome process (at least for me).

I hope to see you there. Take care.

Sorry ruggo, not it.
The song was by Elephants Memory.
In 1969, the band had a minor hit with the song "Mongoose," a rocking retelling of the age-old mongoose vs. cobra fable.
Thanks for Sasha though.

You never told us if you made it through your troubles or not. The fact that you are still posting suggests that you did, but I would still like to hear it from you personally. We all care, you know.

By the way, I too wish to know the status of your financial situation...
That is, if you wish to share...
