Thanks.

@Isbum
"Fame à la Mode" (a play of words, fame sounds like "femme", woman in french) is not the best album from Polnareff, but worth the listen.

Hear Ye! Hear Ye!

I come before you, most wise and awesome brothers and sisters to pick thy brains for knowledge both esoteric and wonderous (but more importantly, having practical application).

Looking for advice regarding two types of software.

1) Software that captures streaming video (like u-tube, etc) and audio. Haven't got one to work yet.

2) Some kind of screen capture software so I can grab and transfer all the titles of files in a folder to a word processing file.

filmpac said...

Been fairly busy of late, sorry I can't drop in as much as I would like. Interesting look on the covers for the Love Scenes project, certainly no hearts and flowers there:))

Isbum's post of the 70s Italian shark score (not yet listened to) got me thinking of other big killer fish, which naturally led my tired brain to the Guido & Maurizio cheezefest I posted, Killer Fish. Which got me looking in the folder. Which made me play this. Which I now inflict on you. Don't think it's been posted before, but be warned, comes with a small cheezy disco alert...

If you are looking for free software to carry out any particular function go to this website - http://www.techsupportalert.com/
There you can access a list of the 46 best-ever free utility programs. If you register with the site, for free, you can get access to an even longer list of the best freeware programs. This site is not linked to any software it recommends but gives genuine opinions. Give it a try - you can usually find what you are seeking.

@ ruggo

I have a solution to your first problem - that of capturing streaming video. I will send it to you by e-mail.

Eburyjohn said...

@Ruggo
Further to my post above - extract from the website mentioned - highly recommended is FastStone's Screen Capture. It doesn't require installation and yet has more features than you could ever want including the ability to capture scrolling screen shots across more than one screen page. It can also save in BMP, JPEG, JPEG2000, PNG, GIF, TIFF and TGA formats.Since version 5.4 Screen capture has become commercial shareware. You can however get the last free version from here -http://www.aplusfreeware.com/categories/mmedia/FastStoneCapture.html

Hope that helps you.

Hi isbum and all you other great guys,

it's nice of you asking after me. I check here every day, so nothing bad has happened to me.

I still have the idea of collecting almost every soundtrack as mp3, so I'm very busy downloading stuff from dozens of sites. Even a certain 8 CD box could be found last weekend.

In the last months I build up a want list that has about 700 titles, if I have them I have every major composer complete. And over the half of these are minor works like easy listening and jazz records by Hefti, Mancini, Fielding etc., so there's not much "real" stuff missing. Last weekend I checked Philip Glass and even by him there are just 15 CDs missing.

So, many many thanks to all of you who post so many great records, you can be assured that they will all find their way into my mp3-collection.

Also special thanks to Master Cylinder for "Rage", which I proudfully added to my Schifrin collection.

Still searching:
La clave
Kaleidoscope

Also I'm missing a lot of Delerue and Sarde records. Anyone likes to trade ?

omega said...

Isbu-man,

here we go:

http://rapidshare.com/files/100326941/Schifrin_Lalo___1999____ReRecording____Mannix____WDR_Big_Band__2.rar

In 1999 I was allowed to attend a Schifrin rehearsal some days before one of his Cologne concerts. When I spoke to one of the members of the WDR Big Band, he told me that just some days ago they recorded "Mannix". Damn, I would have loved to attend this one, too !

And while I'm at it, here is MANDINGO, the real one:

http://rapidshare.com/files/78847975/mandingo_a.mp3

It has unnamed tracks from Mandingo and Topaz, both taken just from the movie.

B-Side has Roy Budd with Catlow and Other Themes (10 tracks):

@omega

It seems to me that next to what you've been able to compile my humble collection would dwarf. But I also have discovered that in this music universe the missing items often come around when you least expect it.

Please mention the names of "the Delerue's" you are still searching, if I have any one of them, I'll gladly share with you.

Not much perhaps, but there is 70 Delerue's in my humble collection.

I seem to inadvertently have started an interest of John Scott uploading at my good friend Jose's..

After I had posted the 2 Cousteau pieces here, a very large and often not posted John Scott pieces have surfaced at:

http://los-soundtracks.blogspot.com/

They are all excellent uploads and most all are @320.

For some reason John Scott is underrated I guess. The pieces he has composed for various Cousteau episodes are excellent.

I would be truly remissed if I made no mention here. I think the folks there are doing quite nicely by posting a lot of Mr. Scott's works.

I would like to also mention that a large amount are posted via Sendspace, thus these links may not be around for very long.

So..? Go ahead. Enjoy John Scott's beautiful music.

Hi again!
Does anyone here happen to have the original score from Wes Craven's New Nightmare? I just watched the film for the first time, and there are a couple of tracks from that film that I would really like to have. There may well be other things equally as good that were drowned out by sound effects, but I won't know until I hear it. Any takers on this request?

@--mcc and fellow "franklynutters"...

I just received a message from Jose and he also posted on his blog that unfortunately he's been harrassed by the musicnazi's.

He's very upset and his main concern is that while he is definitely determined to get the music still going on somehow under a different banner perhaps, that most of his participating audience are folks living in the Latin American hemisphere who otherwise have almost no other means or resources to hear and taste the beautiful music he so successfully had promoted.

It is rather funny, because being in the blogosphere made me buy more frequently music than I usually used to.

I feel sad and upset about this. I would imagine that at least some of us would like to give him a helping hand to get another blog rising from the ashes of "La Layenda".

I personally think he is truly very proud of his love of music and is an enormeously generous soul who loves to share his passion, music which we all readily agree.

If I hear from him further, I'll only be too happy to share with every one.

Peace,
riddim1903

Well, it has been awhile. And I gave my neurotoxic brain a few remedial chances to figure out how to do this again.

I'm happy -- ecstatic -- that my first post on returning is the music I most requested here and elsewhere. Sunday night the illustrious Dr. Isabella Rossellini arrived with something for my daughter: an actual MGM/UA VHS issue of Dreamchild.

As daughter was watching it for the second time last night, I had such a yearning for David Del Tredici's Final Alice. I found it -- one seed, no peers -- on you know where. I went fishing, it bit and I reeled it in.

So here it is: Del Tredici's complete Final Alice with a unique Barbara Hendricks performance and a first rate Solti leading the CSO in their mutual prime. I'm going to post this as well in that concert hall named after an undeserving guy as well.

The Gulliver tracks were not what I was looking for at this time, but I like them and would have eventually requested them. I was actually looking for the 13 tracks included on the MYSTERIOUS FILM WORLD OF BERNARD HERRMANN lp, which are the same tracks included with the 4CD Concert series. I found these tracks last night, so yours were a very delightful bonus. Thank you again.

@ h20 - oooh, I spotted that Trovaioli compilation on Soundtrack Collector when I was playing in that folder, was tempted to request it, and here it is. Thank you kindly sir! One of these days we'll work out if it's TrovaIoli (with an eye), or TrovaJoli (with a jay), but not today. I've seen him credited both ways, on official artwork, records, CDs, film posters. Would love to hear which way he himself prefers it.

Earlier this month, on March 2, a great Jazz & Blues guitarist and vocalist passed away.
I discovered Jeff Healey the first time I watched Rowdy Herrington's movie "Road House" starring Patrick Swayze in 1989.
Jeff Healey was playing in this film in both ways since he played a character and was playing guitar as well in his unusual and unique style: flat on his lap.
Since then I was really excited and never disappointed each time he released an album.
Jeff Healey was Canadian and had to fight against cancer throughout his life. He lost his sight when he was 8 months old due to retinoblastoma and later on had to suffer from sarcoma in his legs which then spread to his lungs and ultimately killed him at the age of 42.
Jeff, let's join your guitar and weep for you.
As a tribute to Jeff Healey, here is the original "Road House" motion picture soundtrack, the songs not the underscore which was written by Michael Kamen.
Jeff Healey can be heard on 4 tracks, the others being performed by Bob Seger, Otis Redding, Littlefeat, Kris McKay and Patrick Swayze himself.
Here it is ripped from CD @ 320 with HR artwork:

Isbum & Crew,

It's Vic Mizzy's Caper Of The Golden Bulls from '67 and allthough it's only about 25 minutes long, this 11 track, 320 vinyl rip is a nice period piece. Jazzers, Bossa fans, and of course spy & heist cinephiles may dig this as well.

Shameless plug time: Looking for yet another easy listening, all OOP vinyl experience? Then check out my month-old spot, Zip Your Rip, here. Not sure how long it will last, as pal El Reza once wisely said, these things can have a limited shelf life...kinda like 3-day old fish & houseguests.

If megaupload gives you too much grief, splitting the archive would help alot. If you could break up the parts into sections of about 20mb each, I could get it done. That way I could complete the individual segments at about 3 hours each. I can usually stay connected at least that long!

For the moment there are these two options:
- Either download the Mac equivalent to the WinRAR, which most of us use, directly from the maker htp://www.rarlab.com/rar/rarosx-3.7.1.tar.gz (Command line only) or, if you are unfamiliar working with the Command line...
- Read this guide on "How to open RAR files on Mac OS X", and download from there the 15-day trial of the iArchiver (Price is $20).

@ Filmpac: Lilleby gave you the back cover for the HP1 i'm searching for... The one you know is the expanded, not the complete score. Plus i think i already gave the link for the back quite a few this past months, and in the begining of the month i also gave the tracks number... :p

filmpac said...

@ breton girl - Yeah, I know you've mentioned it all before, but I wanted to make sure I had it straight before putting out some feelers. If it's any help, you now have more eyes on the lookout.

But I'm not confident, initial responses are not good. Seems to me you are chasing something that someone made for their own personal enjoyment, and has not made the rounds of the sharing community.

I suppose you've considered e-mailing the owner of that page?

Isbum said...

@ filmpac - Fine detective work Dr. Watson! Cheers to a successful hunt!

Hep-Hep Steff said...

à Filmpac: of course, i've thought about this! But he asked for share, and i haven't got anything special who's not already avaiable online. Plus with my upload speed (or i could say my upload slow) and my lack of mp3 converter (and lack of understanding of it work too), it would be pretty hard to do if not impossible. And i left a couple of posts about it in the comments, and told about Franklynot in june 07 without any succes.... :(
If someone could obtain the score from this guy, it's not me, sadly.

Speaking of REQUESTS, I still have two, though I'm otherwise pretty shared-out.

*REQUEST

1)
David Williams -
SUPERNOVA (Score Promo)

2)
Trevor Jones -
DINOTOPIA (6 CD Edition)

This was available at nomwl's for a really short time before it got deleted. If anyone managed to snatch it up, please share with me, if need be privately.

Thanks.

@ parzival

I have the DINOTOPIA 6 CD set. It's all compressed in a single file. Would it be easier for you if it were separated into six files?

Anonymous said...

@ bistis6

Strange that it should be in one single file, but shouldn't be a problem if in standard audio-format (mp3?) as I have Wavelab at my disposal and could thus edit the file myself without a hassle.

Thanks a lot for the offer!
Greatly appreciated. :)

@ All - May I ask a humble favor of you, my visitors?

If you have friends in the blogging community, could you put the word out that we have widened the place to allow a variety of music categories?

I would very much appreciate any effort on your parts!

Muchas Gracias my amigo's!

Hello and Seasons Greetings to all of you wherever you may live and see the fires burn.

@ Lilleby and other Mac users:
As for Mac and rar-archives, there should be no problem at all. There is a variety of free apps that handle all kinds of archives. Please check the fabulous site www.versiontracker.com where you can search for, find and download free or cheap apps like Unarchiver, Springy etc pp.
Some of these may have problems with pw-protected files. However, you can often circumnaviigate error messages by opening those archives via the menu command (as opposed the double-click short-cut).
One of the most versatile Mac Unstuffers is called Stuff It. There is a Light version which is free, if I remember well.

@ all
As for my requests, here they are:

- Vol.1 of the Karl-May-Kollektion (music by Martin Bottcher), feat. soundtracks for Schatz im Silbersee and Winnetou. Unfortunately, the Leyenda link is dead. I doubt, whether anybody has ever come across the 8-disc edition Wilder Westen, HeiBer Orient which is even more complete than the collection mentioned above.

- The In-Crowd (Jeff Rona)

- Life and Time sof Judge Roy Bean (well, I missed him, lately, and Isbum drew faster than me)

- The track "University" (no. 15) from the recently posted Torso-link.I downloaded the archive twice (took me app. 8 hours), but that track was mutilated in both cases.

Ooh, my longest posting so far, but I am already practicing for the time when we will be switched from ISDN to cable here.

@ gunshotwound - The White Dawn suite, plus the main theme from a compilation. What a tragedy there is no more to this fine score...

Henry Mancini "The White Dawn" (1974), suite @192:
http://rapidshare.com/files/101818085/HM-TheWhiteDawn.zip

@ breton girl - My my, so feisty, only trying to help dear:)) Personally I can't stand traders, but here's a thought, you've got my go-ahead to offer him that other recent complete score we found for you. You know the one. Links will still be in your mailbox, and are still good. No upload required. But you speak French and I don't, so I'll leave the ball in your hands. Good luck, and do please let us know how you get on.

Bit of a long shot request here. I'm quite taken with the TV show "Two And A Half Men", although I suspect Charlie Sheen is just playing himself.

Does anyone know if the theme song has ever been released in a longer version than the 22 seconds I have?

Hello All!

Does anyone have the expanded score of FAR FROM THE MADDING CROWD (the version with James Galway on flute)? This was released on CD by Sony Music Special Products in the early '90s, but has since been deleted. It is a more complete version than the LP release from the '60s or the imported CD from a few years ago.

If anyone can help, I will be most grateful.

Many thanks!

@ parzival

What I meant was that while the six CDs each have their own separate folder, the six folders have been placed into a single folder which has then been compressed. I just wondered if you might have issue with dl'ing such a huge file.

GSW said...

@Christine Cougar

No problem. Just glad you are now able to download it.

@isbum

Thanks for THE WHITE DAWN link. I also think it is a very fine score. At least this suite exists.

Hey all,

There's a good piece over at the Film Score Monthly website today -- a rundown of rejected scores, released and unreleased. Got me thinking about a few scores I'd be anxious to find. I won't post the whole list here, but head over there and look it over. Maybe we can somehow compile some of the more obscure stuff here? Just a thought...

One other thing:

Excuse the shameless (or shameful, depending on how you look at it!)plug, but I thought I would let you all know that I run an internet radio station devoted exclusively to film music.

It's called "Shoots and Scores" and it's over at Live365. FREE to listen to. So if you are so inclined, please come by a give a listen. Very likely you'll hear some things that have been shared here! I'd be anxious to hear any feedback you might have. Here's the link:

About Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone...

The other complete score version everyone's talking about is an homemade dvd rip by the owner of the site that provided the covers.

He also said that it contains sfx.

I think he only did that for himself, never shared it on the net or with someone else. Don't know if we ever gonna get a hand on that one... ;-(

I asked for the track "University" from the recently posted "Torso" score by the De Angelis bros. Just wanted to let you know that I downloaded the version posted by clint's archive (back in September), so everything is fine now and there is no need for anyone to undertake the tedious task and repost a single track (not that I had much hope anybody would do it ;-).

As for the recently posted/withdrawn Roy Bean, I am still hopeful. I would be very grateful if someone sent the link via email to me (just in case the link is considered taboo here now).

To my list of requests I would like to add the CD version of Delerue's "Chinese Adventures in China."
