I'm afraid we often take more than we give (often without even knowing or noticing)

so we should be kind as often as we can ;-)

(or is it kind to take? Depending on what someone gives, maybe sometimes...)

I have never been a fan of either-or. Why not do the whole thing, as long as it makes sense?

Here's a tip. One of my sons came into the room the other day while I was playing the O'Horten soundtrack. He screwed up his nose and asked me what the heck the noise was, asked me why on earth I couldn't play Maroon 5 or Green Day and off he went. So, if you want a bit of peace from the kids bang on some Kaada or, better still, some Nyman - Ravenous should do it.

@Jegar
Thanks for the Bernstein - didn't give me any bother at all.

Hi Folks,

does it always take such a long time to upload a file on rapidshare ? I wanted to upload a SNS, but it tells me that it would take over 150 minutes (it's a file with 188 GB) - is this normal ? (I have a Premium Account...)

Hello there,

Just wondering if You, or Anyone else for that matter, might know where to obtain the complete scans for the recently provided M-G-M [F@M Box Set]?

Thanks Again to the Original Providers. (^ • ^) /

Southview212 said...

@ lisaboyle1 - The time it takes uploading at Rapidshare depends on two things
1- how good is your internet connection.

2- the day or time you try to upload. When things are busy at RS, the uploads tend to slow down.

I have a really fast internet connection and the quickest I can upload is at about 65 kbs.

Hope that answers your question.

Buster said...

@ lisaboyle1,

If you have a premium acct with Rapidshare, try downloading and using its RapidUploader, which speeds things up immensely.

Hi:
@momo17: I've downloaded one of the Elmer Bernstein's Film Music Collection files shared by Jegar, however as you know, it downloads as one long mp3 track. After reading your comment (For wv or ape, I use dbPoweramp to convert to wav, then Poweriso to load the cue file and to extract the wave file into separate tracks. Then dbPoweramp to convert the individual wave tracks to mp3 for my iPod.),I converted the file to wav and downloaded PowerISO to try to obtain the separate individual tracks from an ISO image file but I just can't do it. Can you help (extract the individual tracks with PowerISO)???
Thanx!

A Radio programme, not everyone's cup of tea.

A short while ago "The Alchemist" posted links to the soundtrack of the 1936 film "Things To Come".

This remonded me of an archived radio programme I have on that music, so I have doug it out 7 present it

here, as a tie in, of sorts, to our friends previous post.

I have done nothing to it other than add a few track markers, so you don't have to listen to it all in one

go.

The Sunday Feature

"More Things To Come"

In 1934, H.G. Wells asked Arthur Bliss to compose the music for a film, Things To Come, to be produced by

Alexander Korda, and based on Well's novel The music became a milestone in the history of the cinema, and

Bliss's score was celebrated as an example of its type. But several mysteries remain: why did Bliss write and

record the music before the film was shot? Why was not all of his music used in the film, and why were

Bliss’s own recordings declined? What happened to the original score and why were only four out of Bliss's

eight 78's ever issued? Jonathan Dobson has tracked down the unissued Bliss recordings, including four 78's

presumed lost, with the help of Lady Bliss, Giles Easterbrook, Christopher Fraying, Lionel Salter and

Margareta Scott.

Produced by Daniel Snowman.

Broadcast at 5.45pm on BBC Radio 3 on Sun. 18th Aug. 1996.

© BBC Radio 3.

Stereo extracts are from the Decca Records, (London Records in USA), recording made by the London Symphony

Orchestra, conducted by Sir Arthur Bliss in April 1957.

@ fpalafox

my method of using dbpoweramp/poweriso is now obsolete thanks to foobar2000 - I totaly recommend downloading that and following the above thread about that - saves much time and disc space.

However if you want to keep going with poweriso, the missing step is that in the cue file you need to change the "FILE" name to the wave file name - ie - what you converted the wv file to. Usually you just need to change the extension. Then open the cue file with poweriso and extract and it will give you the individual wave files.

Since the beginning of August I've seen so many new posters that I can't keep up with my traditional welcomes.

Let's make them feel welcome and appreciated.

A compliment for this blog is a compliment to everyone here.
You've all made it a wonderful place to be.

Cheers to another great weekend!

Hello people¡

First of all I want to say thanks to Ruggo and Jean for their marvellous compilations and covers. They are masters

And thanks to Goonie for the extensive coverage of Chris Young promos (I talked with Chris Young at the UBEDA FILM MUSIC FESTIVAL and he was a great person, and Michael Giachinno was very funny)

I don't download very much music (only the more rare things and things that I can find in his its original soundtrack) but I want to express my thanks to all these people (Southwiew, Kevin G, etc, etc, etc)

I want to do two rare request:

*CHILDREN OF THE CORN (1984) by Jonathan Elias, at 320kb

Now Jonathan has done the music for the remake (2009) that it's close to te original (Robert Towson, the artistic director of UBEDA'S FILM FESTIVAL, and head of Varese, give us to listen some examples of the music from the remake)

And a very rare and very difficult to find request (maybe this can only be found extractin the music from dvd):

* STELLA (John Morris), 1990.
A film with Bette Midler and Trini Alvarado , with an excelent score by Morris, in the style of old Hollywood melodrama.

Thank you

@ stereoelf - Please, H@rkit & you're welcome.
I'm going to remove it anyway. It's not a habit I want to get into-(sharing other friends music without asking first)

If anyone else wants, a private share can be arranged.

If you are uncomfortable with leaving an email address here, you can open one for the sole purpose of private sharing very easily.

Maybe you can upload your MARATHON MAN score to franklynot? - would be great.

You missed "The Deep" action a month or two ago. A number of regulars here (not me) contributed to creating the best possible album. Including what was posted here and elsewhere, and my own lp and cassette, I ended up with seven (!) versions of the score. Here's what I've condensed it to, but you'll have to pick up the art over at the art dept. The score suite is represented twice, once without breaks and again with breaks. The City of Prague's version of the music is included as well. MY VERY HEARTFELT THANKS TO ALL WHO ORIGINALLY MADE THIS PROJECT SO MUCH FUN AND SO WORTHWHILE!

If Someone could please help in locating the links for these I would be very grateful.

Thanks in Advance (^ • ^) /

@sorei - I see Sandra Bullock's witty turn has rubbed off on you.

I did not know Vangelis scored Joan Of Arc, I thought it was Eric Serra.

@ isbum

Thanks for the links to all the Quincy Jones stuff. Are you a fan? I like his work on "The Hot Rock."

@ Trident

I did indeed miss the "Deep" frenzy (I found this blog only last month). This is great! Thanks for the link!

I think we must presume you are referring to 'The Proposal' and not indulging in your love of double entendrees.

You will need Stuffit Expander to open the file. You can google for a free software download. I'm not sure if it's available for PC users, as I'm on a mac :))

Request.
I am looking for the two soundtrack albums to "Mr. Holland's Opus", one album has the score by Michael Kamen and the other has a mix of the score and other songs that were played throughout the film. Any help in getting these would be great!

A SNS request, if you please: the newly-remastered soundtrack (includes bonus tracks) to that heist movie set in an Istanbul museum, starring a sultry Greek actress and directed by her husband.

@isbum

Do you specifically want an LP rip of "King Rat"? I have it on CD.

Rich said...

@ southview 212

You're right about the archives. I'm having trouble finding what I need because they are sorted by date, but I am gradually finding several. A few were dead or incomplete links, but most are good. And don't worry about offending me by making a good suggestion. I'm still new here, and learning, and I appreciate all the help I can get!

Soundtrackhunter said...

@ mabrizuela

No, unfortunately My Scanner is non-op.

However the album cover is embedded in the file :-))

@ Rich - I re-organized Quinlan's Excel file by composer, alphabetically. My roommate helped me, so I haven't a clue how to do that, but I'm certain it would help you.

Now that we don't have Quinlan around, I do suggest searching the past Monthly Archives for wanted scores. It's been nearly 5 months since he last posted. :(

Isbum said...

@ Rich :0 almost missed your post!

Of course, I'd love hearing the Cd version. Had no idea one was released.
No wonder H@rkit hasn't released it.

@ isbum

I'll upload "King Rat" tonight when I get home from work.

As for the Quinlan list, I was able to sort it by composer, but it sorted it ONLY by composer -- the other columns remained as they were, which means nothing matched up. Did your roommate make sure all columns were reorganized across the page? And if so, I'd love to know how he did it!

I've been a little busy, so missed a few greetings and thanks. Tip o' me hat to new folk Alchemist & TOSC for some great vinyl shares, along with Buster & Southview for rare vinyl. Great stuff!

I didn't have this, so went hunting, thanks to an online friend. A most unusual score, with music played by the Grimethorpe Colliery Band. By request. Plus a bonus I've not seen posted before, thanks to Filmmusicman...

Ron Goodwin "Escape From The Dark" (1976), LP @320:

@ the alchemist - Re uploading to Megaupload. Is easy enough:
(1) Go to http://www.megaupload.com/
(2) Click Browse, select file to upload.
(3) Enter a description on the second blank line.
(4) Click Send.
(5) Wait for the Upload to finish.
(6) Copy and paste the link here.

Hope that helps some :)

@ abby - It's too early for your SNS request, but until someone shares it, here's the 2001 Greek release of the same score, composed by Manos Hadjidakis. There is definately a lot of ethnic music within.

@ WDC - Downloaded the StuffIt Expander program for PC, only to discover it wants to install some other component to my system. That plus it coming from "Unknown Publisher" has me spooked. Now, normally I wouldn't ask, uploaders choice and all... but could you please repost in a more conventional zip or rar format?

Me and my computer are not ready for yet another file compression format. Stuff knows I have enough already ;)

@ filmpac

I don't have the time to deal with it this time, but maybe someone could assist in downloading and converting it for You.

I see that mabrizuela downloaded it, but for some reason the embedded artwork from My itunes files was absent, very strange.

I have downloaded all kinds of files, from mp3, ogg, ape, Flac, etc. I take what is offered.

There was another poster here that put up a 12-disc set not to long ago (.wv) and it was a real pain in the (exe). It would have been nice to have a standard 320 rip or a Flac with track breaks, but I see that I would have had to download another software program, even if I found one suitable for mac.

I only have a couple of programs that I got 'FREE' , one called MAX, and I use it for all other decompression. Like You, I have gone through the same worries when it comes to all downloads, but no bugs in the works.. Yet -knock on wood- :-))

Maybe in the future I will try another technique.
But for now, it's sitx.
