@ Countess, JM

Re: iTunes metadata

Both CD's were from composer promo scores (or something like that, I assume), so they would not necessarily be listed in Gracenote (assumption corrections encouraged).

The problem with one ("Black Cauldron" 2CD) was that though it was in .aiff format, it had no metadata to begin with.

The other CD is mystifying. This was expanded 2CD "Die Another Day." It was originally in a .wav format, and was burned to the CD without any extra processing. The files did have metadata tags, so shouldn't the metadata have been saved to the CD?

@ ANDREW

Thanks for your MECO compilation, and allowing us all to be the beneficiaries of your labors.

Could you possibly post the exact information for what each track is?

If it's not too much a hassle, I'd appreciate it.

Thanks again.

The Countess said...

@Dr. Go, JM’s Enterprise, and the dreaded METADATA

Getting a bit technical for my expertise levels, but my understanding is this: the metadata has to end up encoded IN the music, regardless of the format, be it .mp3, .wav, or anything else. Whether the metadata tags come from Gracenote, CDDB, etc., or if I type it in myself, what we end up with is what counts. If I add composer info, some kind of comment, and a genre-specific tag, and then rip the track in iTunes, that newly ripped track will carry that data to any other computer or player, not just iTunes on my computer. But re-ripping every piece of music in my library, just so I can have said metadata the way I like it, is a daunting, probably neverending, task. Fun, gathering the info and listening to all the tracks, but it takes forever.

Perhaps I'm overcomplicating things here? But in my experience, re-ripping is the only way to universally embed the metadata. Does this work in other rippers/taggers? I assume so, since I have friends using software other than iTunes, and their CD's retain metadata on my computer.
But I keep thinking there's GOT to be a faster way! Any help is welcomed! Thanks to you both, and hey, anybody else wanna jump in on this issue? Y’all are some of the best music folk out there!

Wow, thanks for "What Dreams May Come" in 320! Much appreciated.

@Andrew,

Thanks for the Meco themes, I've always been a fan! Their CD was very disappointing because of their incomplete, cut tracks.

This is a request I'm not sure anybody can fill, but I've been searching for "Blame it on Rio" for a long time with no luck. As far as I know, it has only been released on vinyl back when the movie was released. Would anybody happen to have that one? There are a couple songs on there I've always wanted to hear on their own.

Just to let others know, in the recent 320kbps version of "What Dreams May Come" that was posted by Jean, the tracks are misnamed. The tracks and track numbering are in the correct order, but none of the tracks are actually named correctly - all the track titles are mixed up. The track titles posted by Sorei are correct, so you can just copy and paste the titles, or check SoundtrackCollector for the track listing to rename them correctly.

There is nothing wrong with the tracks, however, other than the naming.

Hi Sorei: I believe Jean shared Angela Morley's soundtrack rather than Mike Batts' complete work which is an extension of the few cues that he completed in time for the final film (Bright Eyes of course being his major contribution). I wouldn't want you to regenerate Jean's work if not necessary.

@ All - Your host is getting older by one year this coming Saturday.

If anyone cares, my birthday wish is to get my drivers license back.
I've been without it for 10 years now.

As you know, I don't ask for donations at this blog unless something important comes up.

We lost our apartment, and on the final day of moving, roomie's car up and died due to bent pistons as the timing belt was shot.

A perfect storm of bad things, but my faith survives. I'm rebuilding and this wish is just one step towards getting back on track.

If anyone feels like donating, the blog has a "button" and I'd truly appreciate your help with achieving my goal of being able to drive again.

Most importantly, don't feel obligated to give or emailing me to tell me why you can't.
More than you know, I understand the economic situation we're all going through.

http://www.moviegrooves.com/latest-1960s-1970s-soundtrack-library-music-releases/zorro-la-maschera-della-vendetta-soundtrack-top-crack-soundtrack-cd.html

I'm having a Jay Sherman
("The Critic") moment, looking at this cover..."It stinks!"
They used the "Top Crack" title, placing it in the upper right corner, but really??
That Lp cover is a forefather to the "Star Wars" Lp design.
Logo says it all.

After seeing 'Daybreakers', which I liked a lot, I was also impressed by Christopher Gordon's score. Does anyone have anything by him that is no longer available (or, in the F**hole anything that IS?)

Thanks

benbridges said...

That's funny. I was literally just looking at Christopher Gordon's score to ON THE BEACH, and now right out of the blue you mention him. I can't remember where I found this score, but I can reupload it again, if you like. Just say the word!

JADSTERSDAD said...

@benbridges

Wow! That would be great. Thanks. Spooky!

Isbum said...

@ benbridges - Sorry to taint the fun, but before "Popeye Doyle" @ Varese shows up, "On the Beach" is from VS and can't be shared here.

benbridges said...

My apologies, isbum - and apologies also to VS! I didn't realise. Anyway, consider my intention to share cancelled.

@Hey Isbum! You still picking your feet in Poughkeepsie?

Isbum said...

@ Doctor Go - The cat's are with me now, so, I'll probably be picking my "meow's" in Woodland Hills. ;)

@ benbridges - Quick move on the Conti request. :)

benbridges said...

isbum - I can move quickly when I need to! I am so sorry for making two faux pas in one day.

Here's wishing you a happy birthday in happier circumstances than recently. Hope you've been able to retrieve your cats and everyone is snuggled down in their new home filled with good music.

André Lux said...

Can someone share James Horner's "Might Joe Young" in mp3, please?

Thanks in advance!

Isbum said...

@ Ruggo - Thanks! The cat's are here living with me on the back porch.
They are in the cage during the day, while the dog is out, but get freedom to roam around the place from 10Pm to about 8Am.

Hopefully, some form of détente will emerge and they can be trusted to play nice together.

For now, the dog is just getting used to seeing them every day.

@all my friends with or without children

Although none of my books could be considered "bestsellers" by the Publisher's Weekly definition of the term,"TWO CATS IN THE HOUSE" has sold far and away more copies than all my other book.

Filled with over 100 illustrations and threaded through with enough sly humor to satisfy most adults, this childrens' book is designed for reading aloud and was a joy to write.

In honor of isbum's birthday and for all my friends, here is your own copy of

Does anyone have Billy Goldenberg's PLAY IT AGAIN SAM soundtrack? I didn't know that one was even released...I just found out! I'd LOOOVE to have this one!

Hey Isbum, your dog is sweet; looks like a cross between a dingo and a fox. Mmmm... fox... foxhole... ?

Happy Birthday isbum

Re: Top Crack...yup the only thing we could find was a low res jpg of the cover. I'm like a well trained sniffer dog when it comes to finding images from obscure Italian movies but with Top Crack the trail went cold. I wonder if the booklet of the new release contains any images. Guess we'll have to wait for some kind soul to visit the art department.

Anyone have PLAY IT AGAIN SAM or any of the requests I posted at all?

The Alchemist said...

Here is a link to MS Word & PDF files that contain a listing of ALL of my currently working links to film scores, classical music, jazz, and even books, articles, and images. Yup, this is EVERYTHING I can possibly offer to date. Sadly, many of the items I have posted since August of 2009 have gone by the wayside due to Rapid Share or lack of downloads, but these links are still up & running. And the files contain many items which I have not published anywhere else before:

please...can anyone share the above

Ruggo said...

@The Alchemist

We have all, to one degree or another, become dependant upon the kindness of strangers...especially here.

Although, I have to confess that I no longer think of many of those who haunt this place as being strangers. They have become friends and in many cases, seem like extended family.

Too bad the astringent track listing requirements at Vagos fm backfired on you. (I was amazed at your magnificent flurry of postings a while back.)

I'm sure you know that with or without track listings everything you share with us is greatly appreciated.

Remember, even Scrooge finally came around to a true appreciation for the gift of giving.

Southview212 said...

@ fdfdfdfd....

Your request, above, is on one of the labels that isn't shared here....sorry

Doctor Go said...

@Alchemist

I probably owe you a lot of back thanks, since I've probably downloaded a lot of your posts.

So, a BIG THANKS!
