Ahhh It's all becoming clear I thought Scott was a complete CD on its own, not part of Vol. 1 (which I had downloaded with just 15 tracks, and the 16th earlier), and probably why I couldn't find a cover...

Cheers Bud

TECHNICAL QUESTION:

I have a folder filed with soundtracks. Does anyone know how to print out a list of those files without typing them into some kind of document.

Steve said...

@ Ruggo

I visit this blog every now and then for computer tips - Tech Bold (http://techbold.blogspot.com).

Anyway, the blogger has a tip for exactly what you are looking for. Works like a charm in XP, but I have yet to solve the problem for Vista. If anyone figures it out, please let me know. The link is:

KILL MONDAY

@ Isbum,
"L'Uomo Dell'Armonica (disco version, 1978)"?

:0 ? ? !

Also, just an idea, but for next time, what about starting a dedicated naughty weekend comments thread? That way you could just kill the whole thing at the end.

Isbum said...

@ 3410 - You read my mind!
I honestly had no idea that participation in it was going to be that insaine.
Certainly I'll do it as a seperate post. I noticed someone has gone a head and deleated their postings (for me?) already. And some links have been killed as well.
That's very responsible folks.:)

It leaves me speechless really.
How the heck did so many fantastic people come together in one place?
I am so grateful that they have.

I suppose when everything goes later today the blog's going to resemble Bagdad, post looting. ;)

PS: The disco track isn't missing is it? Quite fun me thinks.

Hi Clint's archive !

Many thanks for the cablecar.

I hereby declare "Ransom" as the rarest Jerry Goldsmith score ever. I'm hunting scores on hundreds of blogs since March last year and I couldn't find it so far.

As I have EVERYTHING else by maestro Goldsmith by now it must be the rarest record by him. Quod erat demonstrandum.

omega said...

Hi ruggo !

Just change in Windows to the DOS view (it has an black icon with the letter c:\ on it).

There you change to the folder where the files are:

(for example)
cd c:\music\

Then you type in:

dir > scores.txt

If you open the folder now with the explorer there is now a text file that has all the content of the directory in it.

At http://forums.ffshrine.org , you will find the new medal of honor airborne from Michael Giacchino (section game music). You have just to subscribe (it's free). If you don't find, I will post the download link!

I have JG's Ransom. I will dig it out and post for you.

Isbum said...

@ jordan - Good you are here. I ran across a NEW (to me)
Lalo Schifrin yesterday. I will be posting it later so keep your peeper's on this board.

I know that I've seen "Ransom" posted before. Was up to my ears in Goldsmiths at that moment and didn't grab it. I heard the new issue had some issues (supposedly mastered off an Lp). Also produced by F.A.T., so i wasn't in a hurry to hand over my wallet.

Perhaps Tony or someone as nice as tony has the Lp to rip. It'll probably sound better.

omega said...

I just wanted to check at http://laleyendadeost.activeboard.com/ and discovered that they only accept active members now (= people who post records).

I'm now on a big list of inactive users and can't access the forum anymore.

What can I do get access again ? I can't leave a post there so I only could register again. Would that be the way ?

Has anyone similiar experiences ?

It has a live recording of "Airport '79" that is very close to the single version.

It's together with a lot of GREAT shares here:
http://musicbypeti.blogspot.com/

Highly recommended blog !

And scoredaddy: many thanks, I'm looking forward to your post. THE LAST GOLDSMITH COMPOSITION I'M MISSING !!!

So far I have 257 folders with music by Jerry Goldsmith.

520 Morricone, 168 Williams, 141 Schifrin and 106 Zimmer build up the top 5 of my collection.

Clint's archive said...

@ Jordan
No problem on Cable Car, just wanted to say though, Ransom is not hard to get and deffo not one of the rarest Goldsmith's, I also have it, but have it on MD and just didn't have time to convert it, and I have not had chance to check my externals, may even have a copy in there, I will check it out for you though.

Hi, I checked my external and sad to report I do not have Ransom on it, only on MD, and I just haven't got the time to do the conversion at this time (I'm on Holiday this saturday for a week)with too much to do. I did find I have full cover scans in my Goldsmith file, so let me know if you want these (I'm guessing I kept them for when I do burn it to CD)

@ Chimez
hi mate, I was just going to listen to your kind posting of The Film Music Of Sir Malcolm Arnold Vol 2, for some reason I only have tracks 13-24 ???
Is there any chance you could sometime post the first 12 tracks once again. Thanks Bud.

Xavier Ducamp said...

@claus

concerning the rejected score for Goldeneye, the first composer associated to this was Michael J.Lewis...but nothing in the music could tell us that is Lewis's style of composing...so Bill Conti...well quite not sure too...but I have this rejected score if U're interested.

VonCheech said...

Clint's archive said...

@ Chimez
A Question, I just went to play WILLIAM ALWYN FILM MUSIC, VOL. 2 and only have tracks 1-15..

Was these CD's split and posted at seperate times??

I never really miss when a CD is posted over 2 parts but I'm just wondering if I downloaded once thinking it was the entire CD, when it could have been posted in two parts, but at different times..

That's the only thing I can think of

Ennioman

filmpac said...

@ voncheech - Thanks for that, I'll keep waiting on the e-mail then, but still no sign of it.

@ ennioman - I think I know the problem there. Both parts had the same file name, so you need to download part 2 again and rename to something else. Hopefully, you have the link recorded. If not, please to let me know.

Clint's archive said...

Hey Filmpac,
No I didn't record the links, and I'm a little confused, if Part 2 of the files had the same name, wouldn't I had a a warning that the file already exists and the option to replace it accordingly..?
I do collect my files all in the same place, my desktop, so I'd have thought I'd have had a message appear.

Isbum said...

@ filmpac - Oh, sure. Like one more would just kill me. ;)

if it did not come yet, i would try and reregister.
there was probably some error...

Concerning laleyendadeost, I'm in the same situation and think you should register under a new name ( I lost all interest in it now).It is a bit rich from Layenda to ban non-posters since he gets a lot of his posts here a Isbum's

Hep-Hep Steff said...

@ Jordan & Olaf: Registered under a new name at la leyenda forum is just a temporary resolution, since the people with no posts are banned quickly...
And by the way, i'm i'm still at la leyenda, i didn't feel too much welcome for a few reasons... With a very few rare soundtracks by myself, and a very slow upload speed (16 kb at the best), it's pretty hard to post. And the rules to give the direct link for a score and not for the blog iteslf (wich is considered as a spam!) makes me feel quite uncomfortable...

It was great reading about how people got introduced to film (& other) music.
I must be one of those few ‘fossils’ in this group. The introduction for so many of you seemed to be around the John Williams ‘Star Wars’ era of the late 70s.

I recognised this wonderful world of film music in the early 50s when I about 11 or 12 years. Was fascinated by the small light that came from the rear of our cinema & produced all those exciting screen images but especially the music. How I resented those 12 year old philistines sitting near me who were more interested in cheering the hero than listening to William Lava’s splendid serial music.

A little bit like ‘Cinema Paradiso’, a friendly projectionist allowed me to spend time up in the booth winding film reels & changing the old 78rpm records that were played before the film & during the interval. So on one hand the records introduced me to the world of ‘light music’ by such masters as Robert Farnon, Sidney Torch & Charles Williams, but also exposed me to multiple hearings of the glorious soundtrack sounds of Waxman, Herrmann, Newman, Young, Friedhofer & the rest. Every weekend was soundtrack heaven in the 50s. I couldn’t wait to get to the theatre on Friday night to hear the latest score. This weekend perhaps Alfred Newman’s ‘Hell & High Water’, next weekend Miklos Rozsa’s ‘Knights Of the Round Table’. The one after that may have been Victor Young’s ‘Omar Khyyam’. There was even a new name turning up – Elmer Bernstein. I was weaned on that music; better than mothers milk!. Over the years I could only dream of ever owning such treasures to play whenever I wanted - without any dialogue or other extraneous sounds intruding. Oddly, one recent CD release was among the first scores I recall in that setting – ‘Anne of the Indies’. Ah yes. There were all sorts of interesting progressions for me as years went by, but that was the start.

I am currently updating the July link Excel list and refer to your post of July 3rd concerning "BORN OF THE FORTH (complete)".
Did you mean "Born on the Fourth of July" directed by Oliver Stone, music by John Williams?
If not, could you please give some more details (names of album & artist).
Thanks a lot for your cooperation.

omega said...

Hey isbum,

come on, Zimmer's not THAT bad (which is the one that you have ?). There are about 10 that are worth to own:

Muppet's Treasure Island
Backdraft
The Rock
The Power of One
Radio Flyer
Broken Arrow
The Peacemaker
The Lion King

come to my mind easily.

You probably have more Schifrin as mp3 than me already. My high number is because with this special composer I made up a folder for every single score even if I only have just 1 track. I did the same with Morricone, so actually I only have 470 complete Morricone scores... :)

However, I have lots of Schifrin that I don't have as mp3. As said before, except "El Jefe" (and the other early Argentinian records), "Grabado en vivo" and "La clave" (now available as CD) I have every LP or CD by him (still missing some singles).

Also missing the latest 3: "Letters from Argentina", "Shifrin plays Schifrin" and "Rush Hour 3". Damn, I need to buy CDs again sometime.,,

I have been fascinated by the projection booth and its magic machines my whole life. In fact, so much so that the projection booth in a dying movie theater in Hollywood becomes an important character in my novel, THE PROJECTIONIST.

I’m not a big fan of reading books on the computer. I’m more of an easy chair or bedtime reader, but if any of you are interested and willing you can delve into the strange world of William Jarrett, THE PROJECTIONIST as the flickering fiction on the silver screen begins to blend with the terrors he creates in reality contributing to his descent into final madness.

@ scoredaddy / jordan - If you wish to keep that private, I have it.

@ jordan - I suppose then, you have "The Cat Strikes Again"?

I'll be sharing it soon.

omega said...

Just listened to the main title from "Cannon for Cordoba". That's from 1970 - I wish I could see a movie today with at least a main title that has such a great theme.

The last one I remember were Kilar's "Dracula" and "King of the Last Days".

That's wrong - William's "Terminal" was also great, also Shore's "Ed Wood" and a little bit Elfman here and there. Also some Goldsmith, but also he was better earlier: when did we have the last "Capricorn" ? In the 60ies and 70ies at least 50% of the main themes were good and today we can be lucky if there are single ones.

Hi isbum,

somehow I lost track - what do you have ? You may answer me at jordan69@arcor.de

That is also my e-mail address for scoredaddy.

And yes, I have "The Cat Strikes Again", even as CD (strangely from Milan, if I remember correctly). I bought the LP when it came out back in the old days.

I'm ripping "The Cat Strikes Again" right now. On CD it's a Jimmy Smith CD called "The Big Brawl" (Milan CD CH 128 from 1989). The whole CD mentions Schifrin only as composer in the track listing, the 2-page booklet text is just on Jimmy Smith.

I will be killing my posts from the weekend tomorrow (Wed) as originally suggested by Isbum, so if anybody copied them down please grab them quick, they'll go in about 12 hours time..

Isbum said...

@ jordan - The Lp credits are
Conducted and arranged by Lalo Schifrin.
When Owen McNally takes a break from bashing Disco, he pretty much gushes over Lalo's friendship with Jimmy and how 16 years passed before they got back together for this follow-up.
The cover has Jimmy standing behind a gigantic organ, dressed like a funeral director who's possibly giving Disco a fine farewell. Streaks of pink and orange lights glow behind him.

Frankly, it looks like any number of "demonstration Lp's" that you would find in stores selling record players.

He had sold "The Jimmy Smith Club" and was ready to hit the road again.

Not surprising, the record was produced by the organ manufacturer, WERSIVOICE, and showcased their amazing Wersi Saturn W 3T!

Where's Joel & the Robot's when I need them?
Anyway, i was going to strike putting the cover in my mp3 file, but in retrospect, it is kind of funny.

Their's nothing better than discovering a composer who really excites you.

Mario Migliardi
and
Luciano Michelini
are new to me, and I would be very grateful to hear more of their music.

"Matalo" by Migliardi caught my attention, but hearing "Apollo Beat" from the Easy Tempo re-ignited the fire for me.

Does anyone have
"Corrida"
or the duo Cd with
"Una Lunga Fila di Croci" and
"Tutti Per Uno Botte Per Tutti"
on it?
Or "La Sfinge Sorride de Morire- Stop- Londra"

As to Luciano Michelini,
the share of "Island of the Fish Men" was an excellent surprise for me.
Does anyone have 1972's
"Il Decamerone Nero"
or '74's
"Anna: The Pleasure, the Torment"

These would be wonderful to hear!

Thanks in advance for any help in locating these.

Jerry Goldsmith did indeed compose quite a few of these episodes, and I can tell you they were quite on par with The Twilight Zone scores.

I had a cassette tape many moons ago that I recorded with the end-title suites, as I call them, but unfortunately, through the years they were lost.

This upload also includes some of Morton Stevens and Pete Rugolo's contributions.

Liner notes say: "The long action sequence (where Blindman rescues fifty prisoner girls) is magnificently underscored by almost seven minutes of pure dynamite action music played by symphonic orchestra, electric guitars, drums and emphasized by the 4+4 di Nora Orlandi Choir." Here’s the piece, edited into one track (trax 11 & 12, with a part of trk 14 for a coda):

@ Isbum i'll try to post this tomorrow or saturday... :)
Just tell me... For Platinum, you want only this track, not the whole cd set? Ommadawn cd is not very long, so i could upload this and Platinum live in a couple of hours of time, but if you want the 2cd set, i'll be unable to do this before the next tuesday. *blush*

@ isbum
OK. I'm looking forward to the filpac's up.

@ 3410
Thanks for a good remix. I putted it on a Blindman's folder with a Ringo's vocal version by Clint's archive.
That's a real complete version!

Do you know a trivia suchlike?
A sneak guitarist on Blindman is GEORGE HARRISON!

Filmpac is turning into a basket case on this Cipriani Amorosa. I am *still* waiting on the last track. Isbum, there does indeed seem to be a More Amorosa, either that or I am really going completely nuts. But if anyone wants to post in the meantime, feel free, mine will only be @192 bitrate.

@ Tony - No doubt you or someone else will be keen. The one that put the man on the map, no lai'in. Short, but oh so sweet...

@ Isbum - I concur on Blue Crush, came as a great surprise to me too. Nice post mate!

@ krug - I'm not about to get into which upload service is the best, everyone has their own preferences. Take a look around here on what people use, and you decide. Some seem to work better for some folk than others, and vice versa.

@ the jazzers - Guys & gals, do please give my "Jazz In Prime Time" post a try, I can't believe how few downloads it has has.

@ isbum - Phew, Amorosa is all complete now. To be posted in the morning. With "perhaps" one of your other requests.

@ warlock - Nice blog, thanks for A Certain Smile. Always a pleasure to see some Alfred Newman, not to mention Mathis.

@ alex - How many tracks on this Deadly Friend orchestral score? 28, counting interviews? A *very* new release?
