@ reza - Sad, very sad.

I can't help think that by choosing this action you let the dickheads of the world win. You've fought the good fight on health, please don't surrender on this one, it's so totally trivial in comparison.

I agree with friend Isbum's advice above. Please take the weekend to reconsider, maybe try disallowing anonymous comments. This way it forces commenters to be registered with Blogger, and you never have to see anonymouses again. As we discovered, dickheads can still post, but it does at least force them to do so under their own name. It certainly saved our collective sanity here.

@ auditory nonsense - Dogs Of War never got a full official release. But some tracks do appear on a promo compilation by Geoffrey Burgon, here...

Geoffrey Burgon "Film Music Of Geoffrey Burgon", promo @256:
http://rapidshare.com/files/84394961/GB-FilmMusic_Part2.zip

Anyone interested in the rest of this? The same promo also contains music from:
Robin Hood (1991 TV)
Turtle Diary (1985)
Life Of Brian (1979)
Sirens (1994, Unused)

@ reza - Whatever you decide, know that you have friends here and we always welcome your visits.

Been a while since I posted one for our Euro friends, and this would seem to be an absolute rarity. IMDB lists the title, but no other details, including the composer. The Babel Fish translation came out as "Letters From The Forehead" (hehe), but I suspect it might be "Letters From The Front". Presumably a war documentary. I like it, hope you do too...

Bruno Nicolai "Lettere Dal Fronte" (1975), LP @320:
http://rapidshare.com/files/84404161/BN-LettereDalFronte.zip

@ scoredaddy - On your recommendation, am giving the Jazz Piano a try. Cheers!

@ isbum - Must have been a late night for you bud, I woke up and all these little yellow stick-it notes were all over the blog. Care to elaborate on those reminders, goodies or not?

@ filmpac - The Stereo Ultra Vol's 1,2,and 3. Listed as "A collection of 70's furious French soundtracks"
with dollops of library tracks as well.
Lai, Magne, Delerue, Bolling and Garvarentz represented.
I have only heard Vol.1 so far.
As to the Stanley Turrentine, pretty much the cover of "Trouble Man" is all that interested me.

These all came from the blog
http://oufarkhan.blogspot.com/

duly noted and much appreciation to the blogger.

@ quinlan - I need to know if you have Stelvio Cipriani - Antla 1972.
I have an Lp rip that could use your gentle touch.
I am certain you will love it.
Legrand covers of "Umbrellas","Summer of '42" and "Windmills" are sure lovely and bright.
Let me know here and I'll email you a link.

Lalo Schifrin's "The Fox" has always been one of my favorite scores, and I just found out that a 19 track CD was released in 1999. The version I have is, I believe, 13 tracks and has different track titles and different times than the 19 track CD. The CD I'm looking for has the following tracks:

1. The Fox, main title (05:06)
2. Reflextions (02:51)
3. Paul's Memories (02:25)
4. Fox Variation #1 (01:45)
5. Frost Trees (03:32)
6. Lovers (02:55)
7. The Proposal (02:06)
8. Fox Variation #2 (02:26)
9. Lonely Road (02:40)
10. Minuet In C (03:02)
11. Snowy Bushes (04:19)
12. That Night (04:16)
13. Desperate Interlude (02:23)
14. New Shingles (02:53)
15. Dripping Icicles (02:36)
16. Dead Leaf (04:30)
17. The Blue Vase (03:21)
18. The Foxhole (02:42)
19. The Fox Symphony (04:50)

I would immeasurably appreciate an upload of this 19 track version.

@ reza - I'm glad you did. I removed the remark because my opinions on sharing may be taken as criticism.
That would be against my own rules.
Being in harmony with the world has it's pitfalls my friend.
It's easy if we don't judge the chicken for the egg or the egg for making chickens.

Reza, next time with hands please. I must KNOW it's yours! ;)

filmpac said...

@ reza & isbum - I openly admit that the vast majority of what I share comes from somewhere else. If I got it from a blog, I state where it came from. If it comes from p2p, well, who knows where it originated. The only real credit due is to the talented original composers and musicians.

Although having said that, my generous thanks also go out to the Rezas and Isbums of the world (et al), who take time to rip and share their lollies. A difficult and time consuming task, especially when it comes to vinyl.

The death of yet another blog for reasons outside of its own control makes me question this whole blogging caper completely. Like many, I went from a dedicated lurker to dedicated sharer, and I can't begin to tell you the enjoyment it brings me. But it seems that no matter how honorable and generous the reasons for posting material that is just not available in any other way, there is some petty minded prick out there who wants to kick down somebody else's sandcastle.

As Peter Finch said in Network...

"I want you to get up now. I want all of you to get up out of your chairs. I want you to get up right now and go to the window. Open it, and stick your head out, and yell, I'M AS MAD AS HELL, AND I'M NOT GOING TO TAKE THIS ANYMORE!"

Also, if you like "Who's Next", I can highly recommend Pete's
Lifehouse
, mostly '70 demos (some -> late '70s) of the project that was to have been a "Tommy" / "Quadrophenia" -type story, but was abandoned, with much of the material ending up on... "Who's Next".

You might already have it but if not, this is a 2CDx192.

isbum,

I apologize. I've had to go on funnier meds than as this stuff has gotten into my spinal fluid and possibly my brain. (Spinal tap done, PET scan to follow for the brain.) Yes, it's treatable but that's never a treat.

As I am more awake now (and less of an emotional sea) my mind treated something I have queued up as a fait accompli. It's the least of what I've been pulling off since I started this stuff on Friday.

One thing I did do was go into my bedroom and close the door -- that part I got right.

isbum and friends,

Better day here. Yes, I'm a bit weary of starring in So You Think You Can St. Vitus Dance... but as St. Tony of Soprano would say, "Whatchagonnado?"

Something interesting in going on as well; actually... a couple of things.

Two months a go The Psychic Daughter whispered to me as I was sweeping up download links like Leona Helmsley clutching at her pearls: she said that things were going to get weird... pronouncedly weird... over the coming two months. But that's how positive change is going to come.

So even with the inner funfest I was able to finish putting together something with two others... ten years of work crystalizing a bit.

There's more, too. But I'll keep you aware of things that may join my dance.

Appreciated your gesture to pay some kind of tribute to our old friend chimesatmidnight. His contributions and comments were classic and classy.

Another reminder that no man is an island, but we are still somewhat isolated here in our own private realms of cyberspace, and there will probably be no one to notify us of passings when that time comes; there will just be another abscence.

So, in the meantime, perhaps by posting a regular note of general well-being, we can all stay in contact and know that the ringing in our ears isn't the bell tolling for someone else.

@ ruggo - The Charles Laughton "laying on of hams" remark make me laugh every time.
I had some discussion with quinlan and scoredaddy over setting up a permanent post specifically for classical, Broadway, jazz.
(and Harry Nilsson;)
I was going to re-post chimezatmidnights links in it only to discover that almost everything he uploaded was at MediaFire.

If you fine fellas have any suggestions, I am completely open to the idea of having a place for music outside of soundtracks.

@ manucosma, benoit and sharer's,

Because most tracklists are readily available at Soundtrack Collector, taking time out of your day to list them here isn't really necessary.

I say this only in the most helpful way I can. :)

Isbum said...

@ seasy - Hello old timer! ;)
I have some that are currently trapped in my "collectors zone" over at rapidshare.
When they get back and running, I'll be more than happy to re-post them for you.

filmpac said...

@ manucosma - Filmpac did already post Metempsyco, but as I recall it was met with a high degree of apathy. Pity, because it is quite a bit of ear candy. Perhaps yours will have better success. My link is also trapped in Rapidshare's collectors zone, good news that is only a temporary hiccup, I was just a tad worried there.

@ amadues - As usual, your requests either don't exist, or are so new we can't really post them. I have however found a movie rip of Alfred Newman's "The Hurricane", a bit rough but very complete. I had intended to upload it this morning, but will have to wait for Rapidshare to change from Deadshare.

I think seperate sections for classical, jazz, Broadway and, yes, even Nilsson's Schmilsson would probably get right to "the point."

Perhaps before we branch out into those tributaries of musical delight, we should have an area for posting foreign-titled soundtracks. Let's face it, the Italian segment alone would be hard to refuse.

I hope we can decide on one little house where you fellas can maybe re-post some of the wonderful Classical music that you received from Chimezatmidnight. I'm kind of bummed that he chose media fire.
I was talking with quinlan about helping me to check all the Chimez links so we could repost them to sort of get folks with Classical to start adding music from their collections.
What do you guys think?

Look, I'll put a post up titled "Chimezatmidnight's Hall of Classical Music". If the spirit moves you to upload and place some pieces you really loved in there, we may just have something that grows.

Perhaps when Mel gets up and running again, I could open one called "Mel and Sallie's Jazz and Show Tune's Jukebox".
Is this worth a try?

The music is quite good.
I like the idea of film score composers playing other composers' pieces.
The great Henry Mancini was doing it regularly very succesfully.
Cheers

Cipriani covers a number of wonderful film themes from the late '60's to the early '70's.
Legrand, Lai, Delerue, and even Isaac Hayes are represented here.

I think "Chimesatmidnight's Hall of Classical Music" would be a class act. Will be happy to contribute whatever I can.

filmpac said...

@ amadues - Read what I said again. They either don't exist OR are too new to post here. Sheesh. Yes dude, I know Battle Cry exists, but it falls into the "too new to post" category. We have an unofficial policy here at FranklyNot not to post currently "in print" items, especially those released by the smaller soundtrack labels, such as Brigham Young University (BYU). And Battle Cry is very much still in print. See here...

http://buysoundtrax.stores.yahoo.net/batcryorsoun.html

You should check out Soundtrack Collector more often, requesting things that don't exist is usually a waste of time. Except this time. This is a movie rip (not an official release), and the ONLY way you are likely to hear it. Not my movie rip, so thanks to the original ripper. @ amadues - And here's another reason why I don't want to post Battle Cry.

"All proceeds from this limited edition compact disc go toward the acquisition and preservation of film and music elements."

@ amadues - No such thing as a stupid request! All I was trying to say (and we've had this chat before) is don't be surprised if people don't flock to fill your request. It's a bit difficult when things DON'T EXIST in the first place.

In the case of "The Hurricane" we were simply lucky. The guy I got it off is the same feller who ripped a massive Doris Day collection of songs from movies some time back, and I suspect he is responsible for this rip himself. So, salut to him, kind sir.

As for classic old scores, clearly I enjoy them very much myself. But I can tell you they don't get very many downloads.

As for Brigham Young University, this is a very special case, at least to me. You may recall me posting a rare Bernstein score, "The Eternal Sea". The liner notes spoke of master tapes of some 5000 Republic Studios movies, scoring sessions sitting in archives. Those archives are at BYU. The ONLY way these scores can EVER see the light of day is for folk like you and me to support those that Brigham Young DO release.

Hello everyone,

I do not know if anyone remembers me. I was here at the very beginning, a refugee from YDHTVTB, and did a little posting there. Suffered a Major 'puter crash last summer, and have finally gotten back to the web/blogs. I hope to be a part once again.

A great many thanks for "The Wild Bunch" post. I had never heard that version, and am enjoying it quite a bit.

You guys are still the best!

Thank You,

Hi Everyone!

Happy New Year. I hope everyone's doing well. It's been awhile since I stopped by. I've been getting some stuff together to post that I think a few of you might enjoy.

But right now I just wanted to say 'well done!' to isbum! The Chimez addition is a great idea! I feel bad that I was going to post some Boris Karloff albums for our friend but had trouble locating them until recently. Now that a location exists maybe I should digitize them and put them there in his honor. (perhaps chimezatmidnight would like that---wherever he may be these days.)

and for you isbum! as a 'thank you' for all you do---you probably already have this BUT it's such a great album I thought you might dig it:

@ dylan - If it walks like a duck, and talks like a duck, it's a duck, right? Wrong! It's a goose! When they talk of cinematic bombs, the suits sit and point to Howard. The budget ballooned to an estimated $37 million, almost the cost of the entire original Star Wars trilogy. Love this user comment on IMDB...

"A whopping boondoggle of sheer notoriety that replaced HEAVEN'S GATE as The Most Embarrassing Miscalculation In Hollywood History, this flick immediately humanized George Lucas; it proved that even he could make a bomb. And that's one of the things that makes it so fascinating--you just sit there, wondering what on earth the man was thinking."

Wonder indeed. The ducking soundtrack album is half cheesy 80s pop tunes (vocals by Lea Thompson herself) and half typical lush Barry score, which sounds horribly out of place here. So, without any further ado, I give you Howard. A vinyl rip, sounds as nice as can be...

"Contrasting Colors" Lp @320
by Kenyon Hopkins and His Orchestra
Rich Orchestral Studies of Twelve Popular Melodies

http://rapidshare.com/files/85553396/KH_ContrastingColors.zip

I love how Kenyon writes saxophone lines. He always seems to have them walking up to the note's intended.
Now, if that makes no sense at all, just know I have no musical training to say this in any way but the novice I am.
Really a concept album, he chose the material specifically to contrast each one previous to the one played. Not enough, he even recorded with two separate orchestras, one with nine brass, the other six reeds.

My favorite track is "April in Paris". Others are...
Get Happy / Am I Blue?
Daybreak / At Sundown
September Song / Spring is Here
Autumn in New York / April in Paris
Cool Village / Warm City
On the Sunny Side of the Street / Rain

EnJoY!

One of my favorite sub-genres is what I call "singing celebrities". This has been #1 on my wishlist in this genre for a while now, found it on the weekend at a Czech forum and thought I would share with y'all. Nowhere near as jaw-droppingly embarrasing as the Shatnimoy albums, or my all-time fav "The Ethel Merman Disco Album", included once more for those fortunate enough to miss it the first time around. Enjoy...

Clint Eastwood "Sings Cowboy Favorites" (1962), LP @192:

@ isbum - Thanks for the Kenyon bud, just had a listen, very sweet sound indeedy.

I have something of a rarity by him methinks, score to a TV doco called "Eleven Against The Ice", from 1958. It's 160 bitrate, and rather crackly, but can post if interested.

Also, I was blog hopping and spotted an Andre Previn "The Four Dimensions Of". I know you've done a few of his, but have you done this one? If not, you can scoop it at MoodieToonz. Some other worthwhile goodies to explore there too.

Isbum said...

@ filmpac - My Wisconsin friend paired "Eleven Against the Ice" with "Lilith" for a Cd he sent me quite a while ago. If you'd like, I can re-post those at 320 minus pops.

The thing about Kenyon Hopkins soundtracks is that the prices for them are going up. Reason is, I believe, almost none of his scores have been reissued on Cd.

Hi Everybody!

@ filmpac---did I hear someone say 'singing celebrities'? uh oh---to paraphrase Bogey at the end of Casablanca "filmpac...I think this might be the start of a beautiful friendship."

Thanks so much for shareing Clint! This is a 'legendary' one I've also had an eye out for years now. (I think I do have some Walter Brennan lurking around---I seem to remember a song of his about UFOs!---I'll try and dig them up.)

But now that I know you of all people enjoy this stuff (the guy who shares and shares and shares and then KEEPS ON SHAREING!) maybe I'll start posting some celebrity stuff just for the sheer heck of it---if you're interested. (anyone/thing in particular besides Walter?)

On that note---I'm not sure if this stuff has turned up before (it probably has) but I've recently transferred these over from vinyl and thought some of you folks might be interested in them.

These are all vinyl rips @ 320 (and for the most part in pretty great shape)

"Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat" 1993 - L.A.Cast Recording Starring Donny Osmond.

There... now I can take the yellow post-it note off my monitor! ;)

filmpac said...

@ rocket - Hey, good to hear from you, a nice pile of goodies you dropped. So glad you were after Clint too! Let's see, what other singing celebs am I after... good question that, since they usually leap off the screen at me, and I go "dang, who'd have thunk they ever recorded an album".

Let's start with an easy one, perhaps. I (of course) have all the TV Characters sing albums posted by nomwl1 (which in fact was what first dragged me into the world of blogs). I have also tracked down a lot of cast albums, Beverly Hillbillies, Dukes Of Hazzard, Archie & Edith, Laverne & Shirley, The Odd Couple. Two that elude me are the cast of Hogan's Heroes, and The Munsters.

Speaking of The Munsters, Vinne Rattolle has "Yvonne De Carlo Sings", which is exactly what we after in the singing celeb genre. I have most of the usual suspects here, all the Golden Throats compilations, the Shatner/Nimoy albums, Telly Savalas, Victor Buono, Bette Davis, John Wayne, Robert Mitchum, Bruce Willis, Mr T, Hulk Hogan, your own Lorne Greene.

Don't even know if they exist, but I'd love anything by Lee Marvin (apart from Wandering Star), Frank Gorshin (apart from The Riddler songs). Ones that do exist include albums by Val Kilmer, Rick Moranis (country), Ned Beatty (gospel). Others I think recorded complete albums (but not sure) would include Sebastian Cabot, Sal Mineo, Kirk Douglas, Buddy Hackett.

But surprise me Rocket. Chuck out some titles. Jolly jolly:))

Anna Maria Alberghetti

Ruggo said...

@quinlan

I would be most grateful...on the off chance that she sings anything as beautifully as that singular recarding of "Caro Nome"

It's strange how one single performance of something resonates with you and it becomes the benchmark by which you judge all other similar recordings.

Anna Maria Alberghetti certainly doesn't have a polished operatic voice, but she had an honest passion for that particular piece of music that made you believe the emotions.

@all

And speaking of emotions, in honor of our friend Chimesatmidnight I am posting the Verdi Requiem over in his hall.

For me, the Verdi Requiem is one of the most powerful evocations of emotion ever reflected in music.

The two disc set is filled out with Verdi's Four Sacred Pieces, the last of which is his magnificent "Te Deum."

Pay special attention to the final solo violin note of the "Te Deum" as it floats into the heavens and you'll know the sound of a perfect prayer from an imperfect man to his God.

Chimez, I hope you have found such infinite peace.

@ Quinlan and Filmpac-

On the subject of actresses as singers, I have been looking for years, an Esther Williams import, with songs that she's sung in her movies.

In her biography Million Dollar Mermaid, she talks about how she came to learn to sing, although she wasn't a "natural". I though she was a particularly good singer especially in "Baby It's Cold Outside", from Neptune's Daughter.

Here's a link to the import on Amazon:

Esther Williams: Original Soundtracks

Can anyone help? I know it's a small chance.

@ filmpac - Thanks for "Lucifer Rising". Recorded behind bars by a member of the Manson Family. Sort of a cross between Mike Oldfield and Jean Michel Jarre. I had "Cruising" paired with Page's "Death Wish II" for some reason. Guess having Page's only 2 credited scores together will make more sense.
To my recollection, DWII first appeared at The Manchester Morgue about a month after opening.
"Cruising" was most definitely a
7 Black Notes post. I believe he also included generous portions of dialogue between tracks and some additional score by Jack Nitzsche.

Here is an amazing piece of music with an equally amazing history. In fact, it is so amazing that I’m going to post it here as a REJECTED SOUNDTRACK and over in Chimesatmidnight’s Classical Hall as a classical piece.

"Forest of the Amazon" dating from 1959 was one of Heitor Villa-Lobos' (1887-1959) last works. Much of the music was derived from the composer's film score to "Green Mansions" starring Audrey Hepburn and Anthony Perkins. However, the final score was provided by Bronislau Kaper, who quoted Villa-Lobos here and there, but provided his own music elsewhere. Villa-Lobos was very angry about this and, in response, developed "Forest of the Amazon" from his film score.

"Forest of the Amazon" is, more or less, a 74-minute symphonic poem. The work is divided into 20 sections here, however each section flows into another without a break. Despite the length, this work holds the listener's attention throughout. Villa-Lobos was a brilliant orchestrator and knew how to write a great melody. I was immediately lured into this work by the powerful and evocative overture (Track 1). Other exciting sections include "On the way to the Hunt" (Track 9) and "Head Hunters" (Track 16). The imaginative use of male voices and percussion definitely give "Forest of the Amazon" an exotic flavor. Of course the singing by Renée Fleming is lovely, and Villa-Lobos' melodies for the soprano solo are beautiful and memorable. As an example, listen to "Love Song" (Track 17) or "Sentimental Melody" (Track 18). Amazingly, the symphonic poem is a cohesive work; with early themes reappearing later in the work. Yet the piece is incredibly varied, in which the listener takes an Amazonian journey though Villa-Lobos' unique sound world, which incorporates ethnic, popular and classical elements.

1. Overture
2. Deep In the Forest
3. Excitement Among the Indians
4. First Bird Song
5. Nature's Dance
6. Second Bird Song
7. (Vocalise)
8. Sails
9. On the Way To the Hunt
10. Third Bird Song
11. Twilight Song
12. The Indians In Search of the Girl
13. Fourth Bird Song
14. Rima's Music
15. (Vocalise)
16. Head Hunters
17. Love Song
18. Sentimental Melody
19. Forest Fire
20. (Finale)

Renaming this to .zip then allows it to be unzipped, resulting in one big-ass file with no extension. Et cetera, et cetera, et cetera. Ultimately it all leads nowhere, except to an error. Looks to me like you've zipped a zip file, not the individual mp3 files. Either that, or the whole thing is a big-ass fake. Your rip, or somebody else's link? PS.
