Happy New Year Everybody!

tripmaster said...

@ isbum - what are you using to unarchive the zip file? winzip? winrar? if you're using one, maybe if you tried with the other? just a suggestion...it's such an awesome soundtrack, i really want you to be able to hear it!! let me know how it works out~

happy new year!!

Isbum said...

@ tripmastermonk - It worked with winrar! Sorry bud, I don't know why I didn't try that, just never thought it would work.
I been buried in the Bond covers all night! Your track is very cool, like Bond is somewhere in the room and you know it- it's his theme- but you can't see him. That drives the bad guys CraZy! :)
I give Squadra a good listen to in the morning, it's 1:30 Am. Thanks!

Just a reminder of the 3 things i'm still searching for:
Willow complete score (although i'm quite happy with the unreleased tracks, it's still not the CS)
Harry Potter and the philosopher's stone complete score (the only one avaiable on the net until now was the expanded, not the complete one)
Tremors complete score
I know it will hard, but i know it exist... I still hope i will be able to have them one day.

Since the 11th of last month I'm fighting the nastiest two-fold Trojan Horse, to which I had widely opened the door... It has attached itself deeply onto my computer's OS, and prevents me connecting to the web — unless I allow it to "export" my hard disk's contents!!!

Took me until Christmas to isolate one thread, the virus itself called LTaskup.exe [and found in C:\WINDOWS\Media] that generated a destructive start.bat. But the other part, one contaminated service of svchost still remains active and, seemingly incurable.

When (after countless boot-ups and warm re-boots) I do get access to the Internet, it soon pops up a new request, which I deny. Each time then it decides to altogether break my connection... in the course [beginning, or the middle] of an experimental upload / download.

I know it looks that I've let down some very nice people, here and elsewhere :-(
And I do hope, with getting help from "HiJackThis" experts, to start some serious repairs in the next few days. Amen!

di(aphanous , that virus sounds like a real pain in the rear. I had one similar to it that kept trying to hijack my web browser. I ultimately backed up everything I knew to be non-infectious and reformatted the whole thing. Not the most preferred method I know, but the most reliable.

Good luck to you!

@ filmpac (and mel)
A while ago you posted Cliff Richard's Musical OST "Summer Holiday" and asked whether it could be restored or improved, particularly by trying to add some basses, because as you said your file was not in a too good condition. Well in fact you admitted that it was poor, and Mel and myself discovered at that time what was the Australian understatement.
Filmpac, although at 320 it was terrible!
Mel had then the bright idea to replace the defective tracks by the same ones coming from a Rato's compilation which, as I did also, he had picked up on rato's very fine blog. That was OK but there were two tracks remaining not replaced because they were not in Rato's comp. These two tracks were: "Let Us Take You For A Ride" and "All At Once".
I then sort of committed myself to repair these tracks, but since that time you probably thought they had been totally forgotten.
They were not!
I could say that it took me a hell of a time to do something, that I worked hardly several hours a day, every day (and nights) to obtain the best possible results which I am now very proud to present. I could say that but I won't because it did not happen this way. As a matter of fact, I tried to make some improvement but the files were in such a state that I couldn't come to any satisfactory result.
So I made a search on Internet and was able to download from an internet site one of these two tracks, i.e. "Let Us Take You For A Ride" but the other one remained unknown everywhere I was going to.
Time was flying and I was desperate to come up with a complete soundtrack of good quality when by chance I obtained from acquaintances an expanded & remastered edition on CD which I ripped and uploaded and am now very happy to share here for your listening pleasure.
Here is "Summer Holiday" complete edition with booklet (two parts in one folder):

http://rapidshare.com/users/IK6LLU

Let's assume that it should also please Sallie if she comes around and I would be enchanted.
Enjoy

@ Isbum-

Mel gave me the heads-up....holy moly! Thanks so much for Shakiest Gun in the West. I didn't know that there was an official release of the soundtrack. No wonder Percepto didn't put one out. All I have is the main theme from Percepto's Vic Mizzy compilation. Can't WAIT to hear it!

Sallie Neal said...

@ Isbum-

Ha ha- don't know where I was at when Percepto released this. I don't know how I missed it! Was it one of their first Mizzy releases? I feel dumb. Thanks SOOOOOO much. My Percepto Mizzy collection is now complete.

Isbum said...

@ sallie - If you want the cd, email me.

Sallie Neal said...

I did some investigating. According to FSM boards, there is a reason why The Shakiest Gun in the West wasn't released on their website (something to do with Universal not authorizing it to be sold in the US...weird)!

@ quinlan

Funnily enough, I was going through some old posts the other day and was reminded of the Summer Holiday problem and wondered whether you had forgotten about it. So I was very pleasantly surprised when I saw your new posting of the expanded version of it. You’re an absolute star and I can’t thank you enough for it.

filmpac said...

@ quinlan - Hehe, you have absolutely no idea of the Aussie capability for understatement. A South Australian friend of mine said yesterday, and I quote... "it's a bit warm". Well, it was 47 degrees Celsius down there. For our American friends that would be about 116 Fahrenheit. Nowhere near that *warm* here, but you get the idea.

You just became an honorary Aussie my friend. We also have a "never say die" philosophy, which you just matched. I cannot thank you enough for keeping in mind a request all those MANY months ago!

Looking forward to it, cheers mate!

Happy New Year to all!

I've answered my quesion really. I post a request for the music by John Barry to Ridley Scott's first short film "Boy on a Bicycle". The film is featured as an extra on "The Duellists" DVD, which I duly bought. Turns out the music is a single he released called "Onward Christian Spacemen" which I already had! Here is is...

thanks for your answer. I already noticed this expanded version, but it is unfortunately the one which does not satisfy me (the one with dialogs and sfx, whereas i'm looking for the one without these). i am particularly looking for witt's theme (the same as the melanesian song included on the official release but purely orchestral)

thanks to anyone who can help me!

The Boy Points Out.....

That he does recall mentioning the dialogs and stating that they were easy enough to remove should they be considered that annoying. He also pointed out that he had not listened to this release himself as he was only really interested in the evidentially "kinda gay" chats disc he also had. Of which he found extremely relaxing.

Whatever the case, 90+ hits later and you are the only three/four bitching, he would still consider the upload a grateful and appreciated success. It seems there always has to be a Steve Bartman, does there not. :)

He would also like to tell you all now that his recent "absence" is directly related to a fear that he had in a drunk bit of self pity on New Years Eve that there would always be "something" to add to his blog and thus it's completion might never happen as a result. He immediately locked himself in his office (Which has a Full Bar & Crapper in case your worried of his overall mental health.) and is currently shut down all Non-Daydream related activities till the time of it's opening. (No blogging, No SLSK, No MSN, No FRANKLYNOT.) In fact, he only answered this because one of his partners at the blog pointed out that it might require immediate response. He was right. It certainly did. Should you need to contact him, for whatever reason, he is replying to his personal e-mail. However if that is just someone looking for an invite (less Libra23 who is more than welcome to request one.) that time is long past and only those in desperate need of possible trade bait, as well as close friends, have been allowed into the Daydream Pre-Opening. It's completely closed at this point otherwise. I'm sure those already inside can attest to the utterly time consuming pain-in-the-ass that is this undertaking. I could apologize forever for the lack of opening to this point and it simply will not seem enough. This is my attempt at a quick fix. I hope you all had a great New Years and hope to enjoy the continued friendships here in the New Year. Regards All. - VQ

P.S. Again, sorry about the long rant. I just wanted to clear that up should this situation continue for a few weeks.

In addition to Michael Guacchino's excellent score, Lost has had an interesting selection of songs used. I was initially surprised that no one had made a complilation of thes songs before, but I then I found 2 previous attempts out there. Both were far from complete. I merged them with my ongoing project and tried to assemble a representative selection which contains the most important songs from Lost.

So here it is, various sources, various bit rates. Thanks to original uploaders for some of the tracks.

Mark Lawrence "David And Lisa" (1962), LP @320:
http://rapidshare.com/files/80828407/ML-DavidAndLisa.zip

@ boynotorious - A full bar AND crapper? Doubt I would ever leave. Best wishes on the launch mate. Don't think they were bitching per se, you know, just shooting the breeze. Sort of what we do here at FranklyNot. And just my thought here, but are blogs ever really "complete"? By their very nature, they tend to be evolving beasties. Now pass the beer, get off the crapper and back to work;)

@ filmpac - Seems a bit of New York's attitude has come back with the notorious boy.
I suppose it would be best to have a copy of the dialogue free OST for "The Thin Red Line" with me when I meet my brother this Saturday.
We live a few miles apart, but haven't seen each other in six years.

I'll check boynotorious' links, I think one is the OST, or do all versions carry a bit of dialogue?

Isbum said...

O.K. it appears that I only asked for the expanded score.

Request: "The Thin Red Line" OST
The one that went out to the general public.

filmpac said...

Re: The Thin Red Line. Near as I can tell, there are only 3 versions in existence...

(1) The OST, 11 tracks
(2) Chants From, 26 tracks
(3) Sakura Edition, 24 tracks

I assume the one boynotorious posted is the "Sakura Edition", yes?

As for the track "God Yu Takem Laef Blong Mi", this is listed on a Media Ventures sampler as "traditional", which probably means it is NOT a Zimmer composition per se. But then again, it's hard to tell with Zimmer, his name goes on almost anything that gets anywhere near his desk;)

Probably also means someone will have to do another DVD rip, if indeed it appears sans vocals in the movie.

@ filmpac - Thoughtlessly Ignored Music, of the library variety.
"Keeping Mum" has heart, and the centerpiece "A Little Grace" is a real beauty. I have looked over his single other score "Forty Shades of Blue" at the shop several times and without having a presented tracklist at Soundtrack Collector, I can only imagine it contains more songs than score. I'll have another look.

Filmpac - The Bond covers project is in need of your opinion. Check your email for the link and write me after you've had a listen.

@ ALL - How about we post some full Western soundtracks for the folks who don't have much to choose from in their collections?
In particular, the ones you had to set aside when your final choice for the project was decided.
This way your 2nd, 3rd, and 4th choices get a shot at making the final project and some newbies get to play. Just a thought.

@ isbum - Sounds like a good idea on the Western scores. FWIW, my #2 choice was from Mackenna's Gold, which I know has been shared before. There are also a couple of excellent possibilities in the Unforgiven box set which I posted last month.

I am surprised at the lack of Italian western submissions so far. Come on, our Euro friends!

RE: The Bond Project- cover versions

I don't have time to email all of you who posted "live versions" of Bond songs, sorry, I would like to but I can't.
Due to the varying quality of these, we would like to request that you give us an alternate choice. Something committed to a studio environment, please.

In a concert setting, these are performed in order to excite an audience with the unexpected, yet familiar Bond material.

I know that these may be dear to your hearts, but in all honesty, if they were loved so much by the bands they would have committed them in a studio as well.

Please email me your alternate choices directly at...

zippyljs@yahoo.com

@ Isbum: since i've posted a live version of Goldfinger (Blondie), here's my reply... The band did not make this song in a studio environment (like some other covers recorded live by them). They sang Goldfinger only 2 time, both in 1977, and you've got the best version. :p
(you could delete this reply if you want...)

I watched (VHS rental) "The Black Windmill" last night for the first time. Budd's score got chopped up into bits for that one.
Oddly enough, when I turned on the telly to go to bed, "Charlie Varric" was just starting on Stars Mystery channel. Schifrin scored that just prior to "Enter the Dragon" and it was darned good too.

Ives' Symphonies 1 & 2 were conducted by Harold Farberman in 1968 and performed by the "New Philharmonia Orchestra" (which does ring no bell in my ears).

"Central Park In The Dark" was conducted by Ingo Metzmacher and performed by the Philharmonic State Orchestra of Hamburg in 1999.

Somebody has the regular cd or official cd from the film that has one suite from the film and the end credits? In a compilation album with music from horror films called CHOICE CUTS there are this piece from urban legend. Somebody can upload the official cd or the compilation CHOICE CUTS?

And another question, time ago i was searching for the great score from the tv series,*MASTER OF THE GAME, BY ALLYN FERGUSON*. The nice FILMPAC give us that score but the sound quality was poor. FILMPAC, you have another with better sound or other people has?

I've added 3-500gig external hard drives over the last couple of years. All my archives as well as a backup copy of my operating system are on external drives which are easily disconnected and moved to any other computer (all plug 'n' play).

Ref "unexpected end of archive"
This has happened to me quite a bit as well. I find that in every instance, the problem was that the file or files were not downloaded in their entirety. I would download a 75MB file, for example, and only get 30 or 40 meg. I simply downloaded again and then got the complete file.
why only a portion of the file downloaded yet indicated complete remains a mystery to me.

It's "Les Biches" not "Les Bitches".
"Les Biches" is a 1968 Claude Chabrol film (french) music by Pierre Jansen featuring Jean-Louis Trintignant, Jacqueline Sassard and Stephane Audran (at that time director Claude Chabrol's wife).
"Les Biches" in french means The Hinds or The Does (female deer).

@ quinlan - Thank you, but the remastered "Spy Who Loved Me" Cd is what I am looking for. No offense intended, I will download and listen.

Also, thanks for clearing up my continued confusion over the Don Randi track.

Ok, Turb 2 and Profondo Rosso are
going to have to come 'round tomorrow night, 'cos I'm tired of fighting with Rapidshare....maybe my files are too big, but they're not uploading. I swear I've nabbed 70min. albums in one swoop here before!!!
Sorry, had to vent...goodies on the way soon.

Isbum said...

@ goblinscore - If you've ripped them at 320 kbits, they will have to be broken into 2 files for upload at rapidshare.
Try uploading them at megaupload. They allow bigger files to be uploaded.

@filmpac
Thank you for "MISTRAL'S DAUGHTER". The Mini-Series is of bad taste, but the sumptuous music is quite beautiful.

I wish that this and the next will be the best years of your lives!

@ the jazz crew - I'm always keen to jump on albums by composers working outside of the constraints of the film medium (thanks to Isbum for so many fine examples of these). This a self-titled album from a fellow who has been sadly under-represented here. I'm lousy at describing genres, but I guess jazz funk rock fusion, I dunno. Guest musicians include Herbie Hancock, Michael Boddicker, Larry Carlton, Jaco Pastorious, Steve Gadd, Lee Ritenour, Ray Parker Jr, and probably some more you guys will know that I don't. Hope you like...

Thanks guys (for caring:)

I actually do have external drives for storing music, for some strange reason my laptop (40gb) has two partitions and C: drive is full even though I've uninstalled everything I don't use and have nothing taking up space on there.
All programs add up to a couple of gigs at the most, its a mystery to me!! just means I have to juggle the files around to transfer them.

Hey, its the joys of computers....I think I'm due for an upgrade anyway :)

@Isbum

Yep, the Spy rip in my collection is only @160, It's all I could get hold of. I never bought the cd's either I was always waiting for a complete set (that never came)

I've just posted the Le Felins from you and just in case you want it I did a very quick small pic (500x500), just so I had something on my site, you can just grab the image from there.

Thanks

THXjay said...

Ohh

If anyone has a 320 rip of the Spy Who Loved Me CD, I would sure appreciate a copy as well.

Thanks again

@ THXjay,

I reckon your temp files might be building up. I had the same problem once and eventually discovered 12 Gb of them that I didn't know I had. search C: drive for "temp" and if one of them contains a large number of album-sized files, that'll likely be it.

quinlan said...

@ dylan & filmpac
I guess I have to extend my apologies to both of you for not having seen that you already had given isbum your comments re "Les Biches" before I made mine.
It's not the first time this kind of thing happens to me (and probably not the last).

Ian said...

@ THXjay.

I had some kind of bug/virus hidden in one of printer programs on C drive that was eating at my C drive.

Running initial scans of AVG,Spybot and Adware did not pick up, and only found out myself when looking through program folders on C, as everyday I noticed my disc space going down and I was not adding any stuff.

Got rid by deleting file, turning system restore off and went in safe mode and run all the AVG etc again aswell as disc cleanup and defrag, then re started computer turned on system restore again and had about 6 GB extra space.

@3410 & Ian

Thanks guys, I keep running disc cleanup (as it keeps pestering me:) so the temp folder is constantly emptied.

As for the virus option, well I only run AVG (the free edition) and I'm not PC whizzkid so I wouldn't know what to look for, I#d probably end up disabling something :)

I'll leave it for now, I have some spare space on my D: drive so I'm Ok for now.

@Scoredaddy

As for the files not fully downloading, well this happens to me from time to time but it seems to have corrected itself for now.

You know all these computer problems just reminds me how fragile our MP3's are, it seems that good old vinyl is really the most durable/long term music format :) I guess the old guys knew better after all..................I'm off to the second hand record store :)

Thanks again all

Jason

@ isbum
I refer to your Don Randi's post where you commented that you were after this record for more than half a year.
It appears that what you were looking for was the "Che" theme from the 1969 Richard Fleischer's film "Che!", music composed by Lalo Schifrin.
I don't know if you wanted that particular version by Don Randi, but in case you (or someone else) would like to have the film OST it's here.
The rip is not mine and is @ 128 but quite acceptable. Thanks to the original uploader.

Good that you are better Reza. Always a good thing to get "Good Health News" since that's the only thing that matters.

@ reza - It's wonderful having you visit here again. I have admired your taste, generosity, and kind attitude for a long time. As breton girl might say, you are among the
"most ancient" ones. ;)
It was a moment of great joy to me when you decided to continue your blog.
Continued best wishes for a great new year!

@ quinlan - I am 99% sure that "Che!" @128 is originally from "Hall of Records".
He didn't re-up it after changing over to New Blogger for some reason. Believe it or not, it's source is a reel to reel tape.

His site is still marvelous, Bud Shank, Nelson Riddle, Les Baxter, The Ventures and other vinyl gems to be found. Please visit here...

Requests:

By Daniele Patucchi
who did "Los Amigos"

"Alla Scoperta Del Mare" only on Lp
looks to be an "underwater adventure" film.

Also a question and request -
"I Quattro Del Pater Noster"
(In the Name of the Father)
by Luis Bacalov
Do any of you know why this is so expensive? S@E lists 31.95! Not 2 Cd's either.
Also very interested in
"Italian Police Box" 3 Cd set
priced at around 10$ per disc it's a bargain.
If any of you have ordered this and are willing to share it, email me and let me know because I am thinking to order it this coming weekend.
If I can stop myself from buying Lp's that is. ;)

@ reza - Best wishes for continued good health!

@ isbum - Did you see the Hannibal Marvin Peterson album on reza's blog? Conducted by David Amram, with backing. 'Tis bewdiful man:))

@ thxjay - I suppose you checked the obvious, empty the recycle bin? You can also run a Scandisc. Also look in the C:\Temp folder as suggested, plus the root folder C:\ for old Scandisc files, plus the Temporary Internet folder which can gather an enormous amount of leftover crud and doesn't always get cleaned out properly. Gotta be something using up your space.

If you'd rather not, no problem, thanks very much for sharing it :)

@Filmpac & Others

Thanks for the ideas on my space problem but I'm gonna give up on it, I'm OK at the moment I've managed to free up a little space to allow me to carry on working for now (still don't understand where the missing 10+ gigs have gone though).....cue the Twilight Zone theme :)

Someone posted I,MADMAN sessions sometime last year, but I can't remember where. I'd re-upload it for you but I no longer have the file. Maybe someone here still has it.

I had a little more difficulties with tracks 8 & 13 than the other ones to clean them up, but I think overall the result is acceptable.
