Andre Previn (1929-)
Born in Berlin, Andre Previn seems to have had many different careers. His initial prominence on the musical scene was firstly as a pianist playing both jazz and classical. He also gained significant respect as a conductor interpreting many classics and was principal conductor of the London Symphony Orchestra for a number of years. And he has also recorded the film music of Erich Wolfgang Korngold as well as a number of other bestselling albums. Previn also contributed to stage and film music in the capacity of composer, conductor, music supervisor or music director. As musical director he oversaw the production of a number of leading musicals including Gigi, Porgy and Bess, Kismet, My Fair Lady and Thoroughly Modern Millie.
In the composer role, he scored several films including "Elmer Gantry" and "Kiss me Kate". For the film version of "Paint Your Wagon" he contributed a number of songs On the whole his style tends to be fairly light and lyrical, and clearly influenced by his background in both the classical and jazz worlds. In more recent years Previn has been working hard at Tanglewood, famous for its Summer School and Festival. Previn is now married to the virtuoso violinist Anne-Sophie Mutter.

Hi all,
I'm back...And i will upload a new B5 soundtrack soon...
An thanks at all for so much beautiful music...
Enjoy!
@ madman - OK. I'll delete it then.
@ graham - Welcome funky brother.
Former spudboy says thanks. :)
@ lohit - Let me try and explain something here. When we said "share something with this community", we didn't mean just take a buncha links from some other blog and paste them here. That's considered bad form, stealing other people's links. Far better to post a link to the blog where they come from, so people can explore that blog further, and provide thanks to the original uploader.
What we are looking for is something that YOU YOURSELF took the time to rip (if possible), and upload. Just like "graham the funky aardvark" did... LOL, gotta love the nick:)
Can ya dig it?
Folks, a reminder that the Artwork Department is open for business, click the graphic on the main page just above the monthly spreadsheet, or click here. Thumbnails are clickable to magnify, and many items contain a link to the complete booklet & covers.
Please stop by and leave your request in the top comments area, or links for any quality scans you would like to share from your collection . Thank you for reading, carry on:))

@filmpac
Well said.
I'm desperately looking for a rarity --
The soundtrack to the James Bond videogame "Everything or Nothing" by Sean Callery. It was only available as a digital download from Rhapsody briefly from 2006-2007 or so.
Anyone?
gareth-michael sharka
I have no idea where you would find that. Honestly, it's never ever crossed my mind to post it... like 55 posts back.... or anything like that. Sorry man. That is a tough one. Such a shame. Love me some Bondage.
Have your tried a Game Forum. I hear FFSF is very helpful with these things?
Anyone else have massive issues unpacking Keving's LIBRARIAN? I keep getting a bizarre no physical file present error. Which is then replaced in the unpacked files with a ghost file.
Anyone?
@Filmpac
Sincere thank you for the copy of Devil's Angels you had even if it is rough! I'm glad to have it! And it's very cool of you to recommend those other links! If the track "I'm Runnin'" from A Bullet For Pretty Boy isn't a great long-lost surf classic, then my name ain't Comeback Shane.
and @ VonCheech
YOU SADISTIC BASTARD!!!:)
@boynotorious
PLEASE keep me updated if there is a problem with the file.
I will re-rip and post again if needed.
Feel free to send an email if anyone is having problems with this file.
kgpat at classicnet.net
@boynotorious
Just for your info, the original zip files on my computer unpack fine. I'm guessing if there is a problem it was the upload to Rapidshare that somehow went wonky...
Should I re-upload?
@all
Sorry to post over and over but I want to take care of this if there is a problem.
Rapidshare tells me that at least 17 people have downloaded The Librarian, is anyone else having problems with the files?
@ gunshotwound: Thanks a million for MANCHURIAN CANDIDATE!
@keving: I seem to be having a problem with the LIBRARIAN also. The thing unpacks but about ten of the tracks come out with 0 file size.
@ Keving
If you can get them to unpack and play on your end, it likely isn't the files as you suggested. My guess would be an error at Rapidshare. Being that they are a limited run file to begin with, you can upload them back to Rapidshare or just about any other server out there. Your call. I am just glad it wasn't on my end. Last thing I need is another HD Issue. Damn the thought. I must now step backwards 20 times and toss some salt over my shoulder. Just incase. It's better to be safe than sorry. :)
@Filmpac.
Thanks for The Yearling. It brought back the tears as they did with the movie. GREAT!!!
Thanks again, Ron

@KevinG - Regarding The Librarian files. I had a problem with some of the files unpacking as "0 FILE" names at 0kb size. These also don't seem to be deletable :(
I just got Winrar to repair the RAR files and they came out again fine. I am however left with the old 0kb files and can't delete them. I just get error messages saying "can't delete" or similar.
So, in short, yes they are OK but need to be repaired first!
Hope this helps folks!
@all
I am re up loading The Librarian, sorry this happened but what can you do?
If we exceed the 24 hour time I will provide these links via private share.
Stay tuned, I'm working on it.
@ keving
No worries. These things happen. It's the effort that matters. You taking this far too hard. Have a coke and a smile and be happy. All is well. :)

@ All
Ref Files you cannot delete,
May sound too simple, but I was given a simple tip once that has worked for me ever since, a simple re-boot and then dragging the unwanted files straight to the recycle bin, making this the very first thing you do after the re-boot. It's always worked for me.
Ennioman
@Keving
I also tried downloading The Librarian, disc 1 seemed to unzip ok (if Disc 1 has 21 tracks)
Disc 2 seems to have a problem, I could not unzip tracks 6,7,8,11,12,14 and 15. I tried 2 diff programs, but all with the same results..
Ennioman
@John James - Thanks for that "Unlocker" it works great and will come in handy for other problematic files I need to delete :)

Thanx for Frida. Much appreciated.

Hi all,
Here is a new B5 soundtrack: "A late delivery from Avalon", with cover scan:
http://www.megaupload.com/fr/?d=6K63VP2M
Enjoy!
@all
I think some of the problem with The Librarian disc 2 may be that some of the files names had a forward slash ( / ) in them. Not a problem on Mac but I understand that it may be on a PC.
These were the tracks clint's archive was having a problem with. So, I am going to upload disc 2 again now that I have fixed those track names.
If this does not fix it then I am at a loss...
And someone said "Swann" by Richard Rodney wasn't worth the trouble!
Haaarumph! This "Librarian" makes getting the Bennett look like shooting swans in a wading pool!LOL!
@ keving - This has been a trauma for you. I'm just bringing a little (very little) levity to the situation.
@ ned merrill: Here's two of the ones you requested. Enjoy!

You are a saint, can I just check with you, was disc 1 correct at 21 tracks?
Best
Ennioman
Thanks a lot, Count Zero! I will be posting some rarities shortly.
@ Meridith - Here's supposedly the original film version of PSYCHO.
The tempo here is fast enough to curl the hair on any fright-wig you might have laying around. Approach with caution.
"Psycho" 78rpm;)
by Bernard Herrmann
http://rapidshare.com/files/160047660/PSYCHO.zip
@ ned merrill - Excellent blog you have there! I was at The New Bev recently for "The Lineup" by Don Siegel. Did you have something to do with that series of films?
@isbum
Levity is good, and needed in this case. (Bangs head on desk over and over)!!!
@clint's archive
Disc 1 had 25 tracks, and just checking I noticed the same problem with the missing 4 track names, they had a / in the title.
Will it never end? I fixed those track names and am uploading just those tracks.
There is a lesson for me to learn here, I didn't know 'til now that that little / could cause so many problems....AAAARRRRGGGGHHHH!!!!!
Here is the Fixed Librarian Disc 2 (no / in track name)
http://rapidshare.com/files/160041801/FixedLibrarianDisc2.zip
And here are the 4 tracks from disc 1 now sans the cursed / .
http://rapidshare.com/files/160052097/FixedLibrarianDisc1tracks.zip
Can I now be done with this? Pretty please?
@honored general
I must be a glutton for punishment...
I have The Brave Little Toaster and will get it ripped (checking the track names closely) and uploaded soon.
Just got back :
@cigarous

Isbum,
Thanks for the compliments on my blog. I need to update it more often. No, I didn't have anything to do with the New Bev's recent retrospective, but I would if they would have me. THE LINEUP is a fine film. We need a DVD. I did see it running on TCM recently though.
@clint's archive

What is http://www.konsolifin.net ?
I keep getting a dialogue box wanting a password for that site when I come to the November page here, didn't ever happen before.
If I dismiss or cancel it everything loads normally.
Just curious. Anyone else see this?

Anybody have MOON 44 by Joel Goldsmith?
Been looking for this one f-o-r-e-v-e-r! Thanks!
@ Keving and isbum
Yep, I too get this
Yep, I'm getting that pop up box too!!
Maybe we've been invaded :)
I'm off to my concrete underground bunker, see you when it's all clear (if you're all still alive :)
@Keving
Yeah, I'm seeing that as well (http://www.konsolifin.net ), I don't know what that's about.
Hey, just wanted to thank you for you're tireless generosity in regaurds to "The Librarian". You're efforts are greatly appreciated. God bless you're tenacious spirit and selfless giving. You're a gentelman and a prince.
The kindness and dedication shown by yourself as well as so many others within this wonderful community are a true inspiration. Thanks to all you great folks.

Thanks for the kind words, this really is a great place to hang out.

I know this has been a gigantic pain-you-ass type weekend. Seriously, good job hanging in there.
If it makes you feel any better I have had a seriously horrific weekend as well. On many levels.
@ sorei
I am just now realizing the extent of how f***ed I am after this FLOOD/HD DISASTER that I just survived. It killed nearly 60% of my collection and has turned me into the shameless type leeching scum that I hate. All to simply recover what should have been backed up to begin with. Is it a great collection? It was. Sadly now, it's just average at best.
No worries. I will be back a full strength in a few months. And not a single bit of the "elite" items got killed. So I still have more to gamble with than most.
It also helps to have friends. Something that wasn't an option this time a year ago. Turns out we are days away from my 1-Year Anniversary in these parts. Boy a whole lot has changed in that time.
@ All
I got a few of the passwords wrong. My bad. However nobody bitched about it. So it couldn't be that bad. I figure I got about 650+ hits this weekend off the links. So you all hit it with some force for mostly older crap.
The THIN RED LINE EXPANDED just passed 600 downloads. Very nice. I never expected to get anything close to 100. Much less that number. Makes me wonder how many times it's be re-gifted elsewhere.
Does anyone have Mark Isham's THE SECRET LIFE OF BEES?
Thanks!

I know it's been talked about here before, but my eyes are getting tired looking through all the archives. What is the best and cheapest way for a Mac user to rip DVD audio and edit out sound effects/voices? I have Audio Hijack, but it doesn't give me the option to fade or eliminate those pesky fx and dialogue. I have some DVD rips of scores I've made, but since they still have fx and dialogue present, I'm hesitant to post them.

@ keving - Not your day bud. Sorry to report that Brave Little Toaster also has track naming issues, this time with a star (*) character on tracks 3, 6 & 10. Bummer, hey.
FYI, other possible bad characters in a PC filename include colon (:), question (?), slashes you are aware off, and some others I can't recall at the moment. Oddly, the semi-colon (;) is allowed, as is the dash (-), but as a general rule of thumb its best to avoid anything non-standard.
Thanks for the artwork too, always a plus. I wonder if you could scan in the back tray cover, it appears that you have included the back booklet cover (which is nice too), but the back tray would be super. Booklet interiors are also most welcome. Cheers.
Late Edit: Happy to report that WinRar renames the bad filenames prior to unzipping, might help some other folk.

FRANK SKINNER (1897-1968)
Born in Meredosia, IL. Musical director and composer at Universal, then Universal-International, from 1936 until the late 1960s with almost 550 films that have used his scores or stock music. Beginning with Deanna Durbin's THREE SMART GIRLS (1936), through 21 Abbott & Costello movies (1940-1955) and scores of Frankenstein, Dracula and Sherlock Holmes vehicles, Skinner's music created the Universal/U-I sound for three decades.
If ever a genre needed musical assistance in creating a sufficient amount of atmosphere, it was the horror film of the 1930s and 1940s.
Today, early Universal horror classics such as Dracula and even Frankenstein (both 1931) occasionally come off as stilted, partially because they lack full music scores.
When director Rowland V. Lee proceeded with Son of Frankenstein in 1938, he engaged staff composer Frank Skinner to compose a wholly new score for the picture. It was this music, orchestrated by Skinner's soon-to-be frequent partner Hans J. Salter, that set the tone, literally and figuratively, for all horror film scores to come from Universal.
By the final months of 1941, events in Europe and the Pacific threatened to eclipse any horror film ever to emanate from America. Nazi Germany had overrun most of Europe, Italian fascists had embarked on conquest of Africa, and Japan was ravaging much of Asia. But even as these clouds of world war gathered and grew darker, Universal's own star-studded globe – the one that revolved at the beginning of every Universal film of the era – continued to turn more and more over horror films, each one more outrageous and more rollicking than the last.

The word from a source inside Rhino is that Paramount has no intention to re-release the soundtrack. It managed to slip out digitally via Amazon, where I bought it before it was pulled back.

Huh? Is this a comment on the election going on?
Hello Everyone
@ Rocket From Mars
Thank you for your kindly and nice sharing...
Uncommon request : does anyone have the song heard during the end credits of Darkness Falls? I do have the OST by Brian Tyler (a great one, btw) but I can't seem to find the song "Gunboat" by Vixtrola.
Help, anyone?
Thanx!
@ Isbum,
I was just requesting a copy of the soundtrack LP, Party Time, USA (1962).
@ 3410 - Not listed at S.Collector.
You have any details on it?
Seems like some teen movie or American Graffiti knockoff.

Covers are really bad on this one too, perhaps Jean can help? Thx to Isbum & Jean for the MJL upgrades, and great new covers, muchos kudos! Does anyone have "Unman Wittering & Zigo" upgrade to 320?
Request:
While sorting through the covers in the Artwork Department (many thanks to all contributors), I've just realized that some of my Hammer scores are in desperate need of an upgrade. Looking for these James Bernard scores @192 or better...
Scars Of Dracula
Taste The Blood Of Dracula
The Devil Rides Out
From leftfield...
is "Forever Mine" by Angelo Badalamenti out there anywhere?
This was a 'lesser' Schrader film but I loved it and the score.
And perhaps...
Mulholland Falls ?

Re: "Illegal characters" in Mac-originated RARed files on a Windows System:
I found that you can just change the title in RAR to eliminate the problem, and then extract.
@ jean
The link for the score to Angels In America is above, on this page, posted yesterday, if I understand your question correctly.
@ jean
