A lovely treat from Frank Cordell over at my British Film Music Blog
Ring of Bright Water (from the original film soundtrack)in 20 scintilating tracks
http://akidfor2farthings.blogspot.com/
Also has anyone got the wonderful rerecording with 'God Told Me to', an LP i shamefully sold a few years ago in a financial crisis!
@all americans - the Goldsmith Flipper trail seems to have gone cold, if anyone has the DVD and is prepared to upload the whole movie soundtrack in chunks at 320 or Flac i'll be more than happy to edit it down into tracks : )
For some reason, the two links to "Masada" do not work; Megaupload says that the files are temporarily not usable. This is the only time I've had this particular problem when trying to download something from there.
There is no need to find me the Rhino edition of Ivanhoe anymore, because I found it myself from here:
I don't suppose someone could share CD's 1,2 & 4 of F$M's Elm3r B3rn$t31n F1lm Mu$1c C0ll3ct10n in 320 MP3. If anyone happens to have it available, Id much appreciate a share, be it weekend or private E-mail.
Technically I only need tracks 09-13 of CD1 & track 9 from CD2. But I need the entire of CD4.
@sorei - Thanks SO much for your help! I greatly appreciate it, and will download those as soon as I get home this evening. Anything in particular you're looking for that I might be able to help you with?
whenever I have a request, and someone knows a link or has the music, I get help. So I am just glad when I can help out. You will help wirth another request from someone else and make this person happy.
:-))) so don't worry for me!
I am happy that sometimes the bif cracks here leave something out for someone like me ;-), so I can finally shout again: here, I can upload (they just do that to make me feel good *lol*)
to cut a long story short: just download and enjoy. ;-)
Hello all, just want to say, i've had the Soundtrack bug for a few months now and can't thank everyone enough for such gratitude and giving. Now here's a challenge: Anyone got "On The Beach" or "Night Of The Hunter"?
The "reviewer's" at IMDB trashed this score. I played it while cooking dinner last night and thought it was really nice. The influence of "American Beauty" plus some very well placed songs by other artists. My guess is the film reflected badly on the score. If that's possible. ;)
I did some Googling & found some references to CD's (Amazon) of the Original Soundtrack, but dug abit more & found this site
http://www.music-disc.com/lpaudiophile&merc.htm Scroll to bottom of page & count 9 entries up. I think this is your mates set, [Mobile Fidelity MFSL 3-150 ] on sale here at $200.
Here http://www.bsnpubs.com/la/mofi/mofi.html is the Mobile Fidelity discography. Says your set dates from 1984.
I’m done with the weeping and wailing and gnashing of teeth. Here’s the story to date:
We left off with the computer totally crashed due to attempt to use “iolo System Mechanic 9” (NOT RECOMMENDED!). Took me five days to get back in to computer far enough to reload operating system (NO HELP from Corell’s iolo). Of course, this brings computer back to factory original and all loaded programs and current projects are gone.
What’s worse, I lost two external hard drives. One with about a year’s worth of downloads and the other was one terabyte containing ALL my soundtracks (Say, about 10,000).
See, now even you are starting to weep and wail.
One external, a HP Personal Media Hard drive (slides right into a bay in the front of the machine), refuses to respond, but the terabyte with soundtracks opened up on my laptop and has been re-installed on the main computer which is running very lean and mean. So the main archives of years’ worth of soundtracks appears to be safe.
However, have lost all current projects except for next to volumes of HOME SWEET HOME compilations which I had already uploaded to rapidshare…but the next 8 volumes have gone by-by and cannot be reasonably reconstructed (still gnashing those teeth).
I thank all who have expressed concern and offered suggestions. Without this community I would have really been adrift.
If you have read my previous sad tale regarding computer crash and lost files, you’ll know that by reloading the operating system I have lost all the websites I have previously bookmarked as favorites.
I would appreciate it if anyone would list the links to a couple of their favorite soundtrack/music websites so I could rebuild my list.
@ Ruggo - Oh my, sux to the max mate. About the only positive I can suggest is this. Assuming you didn't also reformat your main C drive (you didn't, did you?), and depending on your operating system, your old favorites folder might still be hanging around.
Take a look in your "Documents and Settings" folder, examine all subfolders. Windows XP (for example) creates a new user profile when reinstalling Windows over the top, and leaves the old one alone. Maybe, just maybe, you will find your old "Favorites" folder lurking in there somewhere. Copy and paste, and presto bingo.
Best of luck mate, and don't hesitate to ask for any re-ups required.
THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU
Not only did I find my favorites (although, I have to figure how to transfer the list)
BUT But BBBBBBUUUUUUTTTTT:
I found all of my old desktop files which is where I was keeping all my working files!!!!!!!!!
I haven't searched around (using your FANTASTIC SUGGESTION), but I might even find the miscellaneous files I squirreled away on my "C" drive because I had so much extra space.
@good news Ruggo @well done filmpac...not only a legend in his own lunchbox but Ruggo's too ;-) @Robert - once again many thanks for Follyfoot, I had no idea there had ever been a soundtrack. Can't say I have fond memories of the show because I did not like it, but the music is terrific. @sorei's gone away :-(((((
Commiserations. Before you reformat everything, there are programs that can find files that appear to have gone. I suggest googling "data recovery" and seeing what comes up. Something like this (which, again, I can't specifically recommend, not having used it.)
Somebody has the CD version of Dimitri Tiomkin's "55 Days At Peking" (the Varese release) in good quality ? And the STEREO version of Malcolm Arnold's "Inn Of The Sixth Happiness" (please not the 128k version that is floating around - it is so horrible compressed and reworked - a plain and straight copy of the original stereo LP in good quality would be great...)
Yes very glad Filmpac was here to swoop in for the rescue. Sorry to hear about all the computer stress you've been put through though. Just feel both bad about your problem (I know how depressing it can be) and happy it's not as bad as you first thought (JOY!).
@ Filmpac
You're THE MAN, that's all. Thanks for being there for our dear friend Ruggo.
@ All Storm Boy pelican dies Posted Thu Sep 3, 2009
A much-loved pelican used in the South Australian film Storm Boy has died. The pelican, Mr Percival, had been living at the Adelaide Zoo since the late 1980s and died overnight.
The bird was aged in its mid-30s.
In 1976 the bird was used in Storm Boy, the film based on Colin Thiele's novel about a boy who raises three pelicans.
The boy is forced by his father to release them, but one bird, Mr Percival, returns.
The Coorong near the Murray mouth was the setting for the movie.
Bird keeper Brett Backhouse says Mr Percival lived a low-key life after arriving at the zoo.
"He was one of the nicer pelicans. He was definitely an individual," he said.
"He was quite willing to accept a pat here and there sometimes, but then as well he could be quite feisty to us and give us a bit of a slap with his beak if he was hungry."
Mr Backhouse says Mr Percival had a good life, with similarities to the film.
"I think the ending of it, you know, saying that Mr Percival never dies, he lives on in other younger pelicans would be a sort of nice memento to him," he said.
"And Mr Percival does have a few children around the place so yeah, he'll live on."
@All: All this talk of passwords and now I have a question...
@WriterDirectorCollector: I downloaded your link to Thomas Dolby's "The Golden Age..." and it asked me for a password but I couldn't find one in your posting. Did I miss it or make an error? Thanks!
@ ruggo---I just LOVE a happy ending these days---or anything even close to one---Congratulations! I'm very happy for you!
@ filmpac---three cheers to you mate! you ARE a true scholar AND a gentleman, way to help out a friend. (...now if you ever start tinkering around with Macs...)
@ Ruggo and Filmpac Sounds like this exact same computer issue also hit me, two months back. Now I've got two user profiles as well and must log in under a different "Documents and Settings" profile to access the old stuff on the HD. Maybe we were hit by the same download?
Akira Ifukube-Compilation [Godzilla/Godzilla vs Mothra/King Kong vs Godzilla/War of the Gargantuas/etc.] CD rip @ 320
Normally, I would post this CD in H20 & Tripmaster's Asian Cinema Scores shop, but the gent who made this compilation, LG over at Moviemusic.com, intended this to be an Ifukube disc for people who had never heard him and were unfamiliar with his sound. It brings the very best Ifukube themes & cues together in a single disc and is a great introduction (maybe the only Ifukube disc you'll ever need). And, for once, it comes with artwork!
@ a-r: I have an LP to Cd transfer of Cordell's God Told Me To (but not the A side of the Lp with Ring of Bright Water). And thanks for the Ring of Bright Water cues. I've never seen the film but a friend swears that the cues in the film are far superior to Cordell's re-recorded album. I'll upload & post the disc sometime later today.
@ Steven64 - Shocking that it's never been issued on Cd. It must have sold huge when Capitol issued it. Coincidentally, I listened to it today as well. Maui-zowie, it's a classic!
I forgot to include them on the post. Yesterday My power cord caught on fire at the junction, so My laptop is useless until I get a new power cord from apple. I was very lucky that nothing happened to the computer, however, writing this on My itouch is a real pain in the butt. My stomach just about turned over twice whilst reading ruggo's troubles, especially the on the external drive. Glad to see all went well.
Thanks for uploading those scores! I like discovering something new (that most everyone else already knows as a classic!!) - in this case, Flesh and Blood.
Did you see my post saying thanks for the 2 Goldsmith songs.. but that they weren't the songs (other tracks)? Sorry to re-post, just anxious to hear them!

Hi All: does anyone have the 2002 promo David Shire Film Music (as opposed to David Share At The Movies)it contains music form TV work as well as piece(s) from Straight Time. Thanks in advance.
With a sigh of relief and thanks to all my friends here who have helped me reconstruct my files:

@ Ruggo - Having not been online for the past 24 hours or so, I seem to have missed adding my "condolences" for your loss ;)
It seems however, good old Filmpac has pulled it out of the bag yet again and worked his magic!
Reading through the comments my heart skipped a few beats as I know what that sinking feeling in the pit of your stomach is like, just as you realise that a whole load of irreplaceable work has gone up in smoke (no pun intended WriterDirector ;)
I'm so glad you've managed to recover most of it. You must be as happy as a starving pig who just found a mountainous stash of truffles :)
I look forward to the day when we can ditch spinning hard drives and move over to solid-state storage. That SHOULD be more reliable!
I've always wondered why computer manufacturers don't put the operating system on a solid state drive of some sort, then if the hard drive goes belly-up, you just swap it for a new one, no need to reinstall anything!
Sorry.. did I put that right? The two Goldsmith songs you posted for me the other day were different (instrumental) tracks from those two albums. Just wondered if you could post the songs. Don't mean to be a nuisance...
Regarding your Shostakovich request of The Alchemist:
I may (or may not) have your album. I have an extensive collection of Shostakovich's film music--might even be everything he ever wrote for movies--which I have been trying to sort through.
I've been wanting to do a mega Shostakovich posting here for some time, and this may just prompt me to get off my butt and do it.
Thank you so much for War And Peace by Vyacheslav Ovchinnikov.
I recall going one saturday afternoon-evening in the late 60's to a small theater near Santa Monica to see the Russian language version of Sergei Bondarchuk's War And Peace. The film was over 6 hours long and had a dinner-break intermission half-way through.
Really an unforgetable experience (and if you've never seen it, an unforgettable movie). I can't believe you have posted the soundtrack. I didn't even know there was one!
Totally wonderful disc of old 78 recordings from EMI in 1994
01 The Way to the Stars (Nicholas Brodszky) 02 Blithe Spirit - Prelude & Waltz (Richard addinsell) 03 The Night Has Eyes - Theme (Charles Williams) 04 Western Approaches - Seascape (Clifton Parker) 05 The Passionate Friends - Film Themes (Richard Addinsell) 06 The Man Between -Theme (John Addison) 07 The Sound Barrier -Rhapsody Op.38 (Malcolm Arnold) 08 A Matter of Life and Death - Prelude (Allan Gray) 09 A Kid for Two Farthings - Theme (Benjamin Frankel) 10 Hungry Hill - Waltz into Jig (John Greenwood) 11 The Rakes Progress - Calypso (William Alwyn) 12 Wanted for Murder - A Voice in the Night (Mischa Spoliansky) 13 Ha'penny Breeze - Film theme (Philip Green) 14 Carnival - Intermezzo (Nicholas Brodszky) 15 Scott of the Antarctic - Prologue,Pony March,Penguins, climbing the Glacier,Final Music (Vaughan Williams)
The two songs I posted are right from the CD's, The Edge (the last two trks merged together) and The River Wild (last trk). If I'm missing something let me know & I'll try to get it right.

@WriterDirector...: Thanks for the passwords!
@All: Nice score from Mr. Grusin (and a helluva better than the flick was!)... "The Bonfire of the Vanities" by Dave Grusin @320 front/back cover art http://rapidshare.com/files/275606412/bonfire_dg_320.zip
I'm embarassed! My apologies. I just looked at the track titles as they came up on media player. The songs are there, although the first one is from The Sum of All Fears. There's a song in The Edge?
@ gsw: Sorry to say, I don't have that Shostakovich album. I have a few of the LPs that Maxim Shostakovich (who I've talked with) conducted of his dad's film scores but I haven't had them transferred to CD. The score to Michurin is on at least one other release. I do have a number of Shostakovich film music albums which I suppose I should post (and if you go back a moth or so you will find my posting of his score to the 1934 film The Girlfriends).
To all - I'm quite sure I haven't posted these wonderful concerts at this wonderful site, so here goes:
Just over 20 years ago, the BBC broadcast two concerts conducted by Jerry Goldsmith. The first concert was broadcast on Aug, 17, 1989, and was attended by invitation only. The second concert, broadcast on August 18, 1989, was part of the Summer Pops concert series. The unique thing about these two concerts is that there isn't any score duplication. I would like to thank a good friend, now residing in Australia, for sharing these with me. The correct artwork was found at the Plissken site.
@ Conti fans - Sorry for the rush job on "Harry & Tonto" We are looking for proper Lp scans for this. If you have some, please share them in The Artwork Department.
Here is just "Harry & Tonto" with the tracks properly titled.
@The Alchemist Before we get too far out, thank you for posting the music from the Republic films at the end of last month. I'm a big fan of serials and have been looking for the Lone Ranger CD for a while!
@ denis & all: I appreciate the thanks but all of this praise is going to my head. Really, I'm taking out from the blog much more than I'm giving back. But, as I've been saying ad nauseum, the best way to show your thanks would be to follow my lead and upload & share your best scores so we all can have them!
@ denis: I like serials as well. Last year I watched all 3 of the Flash Gordon serials over again (the sexier first one is still the best of the three) and I finally saw the 1943 Batman serial. I've seen both the Judex and Les Vampires serials (great stuff) but not Fantomas one by the same director. The best serials I've seen lately are the silent Harry Houdini ones that came out in a box set. The American Treasures DVd set has a few episodes of a few silents serials (not complete though). VCI has issued a Green Hornet serial and plans to do a re-mastered Buck Rogers. They also have two Tailspin Tommy serials which I've been looking at to buy.
@ ruggo - YEEE HAWWW indeedy. Most excellent mate :))
@ alchemist & co - With all the Sakamotos flying around, I thought someone might get a kick out of this. A short single, with vocal version called Forbidden Colours...

The M0squit0 C0ast (1986) http://rapidshare.com/files/256366268/MJ-1986TMC-aS.zip
I think I have some bad news for you. I have a collection of 16 CD's of Shostokovich film music and not one of them appears to be what you are looking for.
I also located a strange file I had labeled as his film music and it contains 725 straight tracks. Some only have numbers and no names, but from what I can see, spreading the MP3 information across the spectrum, none seem to be from the Russian record producer you indicated.
@ gsw - Must be the full moon.;) You are triple posting and showing up with odd messages in The Weekend Specials. I'm laughing with you, pal. It's a-ok!
@ isbum: Thanks. For birthday wishes and blog. Alas, found my betta bloated and belly up this morn. Hope it's not a sign of things to come.
@ benbridges: Thanks for the Bond. Saw it posted a few weeks ago and had lamented missing my window.
@ Steven64: Thanks for the two Newman's. Never thought I'd see Josh and S.A.M. appear. Also ironic you should post Bonfire, as I'm halfway through Wolfe's novel.
And for no reason whatsoever, here's a random score: MICHAEL WETHERWAX's CAGE (1989), for which there was a sequel entitled CAGE II: YES IT'S TRUE, OR THE ARENA OF DEATH (1994). (My rip, at 192) http://rapidshare.com/files/275820963/CAGE.zip.html
@isbum - Sorry about the new set of multiple post at SNS. I don't know what is going on. I preview without any problems but when I publish nothing happens on my end but obviously they are getting published. Everything tonight is working my last nerve.
@isbum - Now I am having the same problem here and just deleted the wrong post. I am giving up for the night before I pick my omputer up and throw it out the window.
....it's the Shosty Film Score challenge! I'd like to see Ruggo & gsw (& anyone else who wants to join in) share as many Dimitri Shostakovich film music albums as they have! I thought I'd start the ball rolling with these:
Dimitri Shostakovich-Film Music [Adventures of Korzinkina/The Golden Mountains/The Silly Little Mouse/etc.] [Conducted by Walter Mnatsakanov] Citadel CTD88129 CD rip @ 320
@The Alchemist and @WDC: Thanks for the Dolby/Sakamoto postings. I get to upgrade my copy of the 12-inch Fieldwork and get a copy of Gate to the Mind's Eye, awesome.
If either of you is lacking in any of the new Dolby reissues (expanded versions of Golden Age and The Flat Earth, plus a new singles collection), I'd be happy to post them at 320.
Bernard Herrmann-Nocturne and Scherzo/Currier and Ives/For the Fallen/The Night Digger Cinema LP-8015 LP rip @ 320
The final three movements of Herrmann's Currier and Ives Suite, For the Fallen, and The Night Digger all come from the Cinema Records bootleg (though just what the original source for this material was is unknown). Herrmann's 1936 concert work, Nocturne and Scherzo was not on the Cinema Records LP, it came to me through the grapevine. Herrmann re-worked the scherzo into a cue for Jason and the Argonauts.

@ abby: Which version of Odna is this? The Naxos or Capriccio or a recording of the shorter suite?
@ fdfdfdfd: No guarantees or promises now! I own copies of the 4-CD Alamo-Tiomkin set you are looking for as well as the 2 Silva Screen Moross re-recordings. However, I haven't run across them lately in my searches for other items which means they are probably at the bottom of some box I haven't opened yet. If I'm able to locate them for you, I will post them. But, that simply, I might not be able to locate them. All I can do is look & see if they show up.
@ abby: Thanks. Somewhere I have the Naxos (which is a bit different in its selection of cues) and I may put that up if the Shosty thing starts to snowball....

I have the Moross film music CD you want, but I won't have access to it until Thursday. If you can wait that long, and if no one else uploads it in the meantime, I'll be happy to put that up for you.
fdfdfd, Here is that Essential Collection written by that fella who scored that Southern romantic drama which takes its title from the third stanza of Dowson's Cynara:

For some reason, the two links to "Masada" do not work; Megaupload says that the files are temporarily not usable. This is the only time I've had this particular problem when trying to download something from there.

One note regarding "Mentor".
The "reviewer's" at IMDB trashed this score. I played it while cooking dinner last night and thought it was really nice.
The influence of "American Beauty" plus some very well placed songs by other artists.
My guess is the film reflected badly on the score. If that's possible. ;)

@ The Alchemist

@ The Alchemist
Hi, thank so much for uploading of several soundtracks, specially nascimbene
For now, I’m back…sort of.
REQUEST REQUEST REQUEST
If you have read my previous sad tale regarding computer crash and lost files, you’ll know that by reloading the operating system I have lost all the websites I have previously bookmarked as favorites.
I would appreciate it if anyone would list the links to a couple of their favorite soundtrack/music websites so I could rebuild my list.
Thank you in advance.

@Robert - once again many thanks for Follyfoot, I had no idea there had ever been a soundtrack. Can't say I have fond memories of the show because I did not like it, but the music is terrific.
@sorei's gone away :-(((((
@ Ruggo,
Commiserations. Before you reformat everything, there are programs that can find files that appear to have gone. I suggest googling "data recovery" and seeing what comes up. Something like this (which, again, I can't specifically recommend, not having used it.)
Good luck.
@3410 - I've just tried it and it does work. A good find and its free.
A request:
Somebody has the CD version of Dimitri Tiomkin's "55 Days At Peking" (the Varese release) in good quality ? And the STEREO version of Malcolm Arnold's "Inn Of The Sixth Happiness" (please not the 128k version that is floating around - it is so horrible compressed and reworked - a plain and straight copy of the original stereo LP in good quality would be great...)
Thanks in advance...
@ Ruggo
Yes very glad Filmpac was here to swoop in for the rescue. Sorry to hear about all the computer stress you've been put through though. Just feel both bad about your problem (I know how depressing it can be) and happy it's not as bad as you first thought (JOY!).

@WDC - Thanks you for the Thomas Dolby. I love The Golden Age of Wireless. I have the LP and have just about worn it out.
@Buster - Thank you for The Naked City.
@sorei - Thank you for Project X.
@The Alchemist - You keep coming up with some wonderful shares. You are helping me with so many upgrades I can't even name them all. Thank you.
@ gsw - "Did you have too many dancing girls loaded?"

Thanks for the hearty laugh!

Storm Boy pelican dies
Posted Thu Sep 3, 2009

Gotta get 'em loaded before they'll dance.

This is a composer promo. I don't know why it's called "Orchestral Music for Film" when all the music was written for TV, but, whatever...

@The Alchemist - I have requested this LP before and have never found anyone who has it. I'm thinking maybe you might.

This isn't titled as "complete" but it has 47 tracks with little if any SFX. It's the best I've come across:

Looking for some John Barry's score
* Mary Queen of Scots (Complete Bootleg)
* The Deep / Jagged Edge / Peggy Sue Got Married (Bootleg)

A lot of thanks for any help.
If it's not a silly question, what (UK) times does the new 'specials' blog start and end? thanks.
Something just popped into my head...
'Seven Nights in Japan'. A little Lewis Gilbert film from the 70s with music by David Hentschel (think that's how you spell it). Anyone?
With a sigh of relief and thanks to all my friends here who have helped me reconstruct my files:

@ JADSTERSDAD -
Sorry, I don't have and can't find a copy of the vocal you requested.
Or is that just me being too simplistic :)
@Southview212
Sorry.. did I put that right? The two Goldsmith songs you posted for me the other day were different (instrumental) tracks from those two albums. Just wondered if you could post the songs. Don't mean to be a nuisance...
@gsw
@THXjay
You say I should be:
"Happy as a starving pig who just found a mountainous stack of truffles."
I think in more common terms:
"Happier than a fly in a cow pasture."
I like to be different :)
I smell bacon. :)
Ruggo's cooking again! ;)
@The Alchemist
The Weekend Specials post is open and on the top of the blogs Main Page.
Enjoy!

I'm embarassed! My apologies. I just looked at the track titles as they came up on media player. The songs are there, although the first one is from The Sum of All Fears. There's a song in The Edge?
thanks again and again...sorry!
@ all: Durn typos! I'd like to see anybody go back a moth or two....I meant to write month.

@The Alchemist
Before we get too far out, thank you for posting the music from the Republic films at the end of last month.
I have a request for the bootleg if you will of Alien. The one with the Freud tracks and the alternate end credits. Any help would be appreciated!

@The Alchemist - Thanks for trying to help with the Shostakovich.
@Ruggo - Hope you have the Shostakovich and I look forward to your mega posting.
@gsw
Back to square one.
@Alchemist
I found the Goldsmith recording at Soundtrack Collector. Thanx again - The List of Adrian Messenger was always one of my favorites. :O)
@ gsw - Must be the full moon.;)

@The Alchemist and @WDC: Thanks for the Dolby/Sakamoto postings. I get to upgrade my copy of the 12-inch Fieldwork and get a copy of Gate to the Mind's Eye, awesome.
If either of you is lacking in any of the new Dolby reissues (expanded versions of Golden Age and The Flat Earth, plus a new singles collection), I'd be happy to post them at 320.

Cinema LP-8015
LP rip @ 320

Sorry, Alchimest, I meant to specify. It's the Capriccio recording.
@ abby: Thanks. Somewhere I have the Naxos (which is a bit different in its selection of cues) and I may put that up if the Shosty thing starts to snowball....
Hi! Can anyone upload Mission Impossible by Lalo Schifrin (1966)? But I'm looking for the cd version released in 1996 with 14 tracks. Thx in advance!
