Does anyone know if they ever released the score for the 1950's movie "The Conquest Of Space", by Van Cleave?

@MADMAN - are you the same marz on FSM? I have been just going bonkers over here at the fact you FINALLY found 'Summers Coming' if you are! I can now die a happy man - may I ship you a pound of gold buillion for whatever you went through to find that track??? I'm DL the post you just put up - so now then, have we managed to find, between all of us, the 7 RABID tracks to make a record of this thing or what????

@ isbum - you're probably wondering, what the hell???, trust me, those records will be on the way, finances screwed me this week - art will be on the way, and they'll be in the mail in the next few days.

Now, back to my rum and Fulci!

- REQUEST -

Just picked up a sealed copy of "Stolen Summer". A promo only release by Danny Lux for the Project Greenlight film. Any chance one of you have an opened copy I can download so that I don't have to open this one?

Thanks!!!

@ TOSC:
Thank you very much for the 2 Delerue's and for The Last Ferry by composer Soeren Hyldgaard!
Do you have Eye Of The Eagle by Soeren Hyldgaard?
It's a long-time request. Hope to hear from you ;)

@ Madman:
I know there is a 23-tracks version of Sharkwater, already have it.
Searching for a 22-tracks version. Does yours have 22 tracks?
If yes, I would love to have a listen ;)
Thanks!

@ JADSTERSDAD:
I'm searching this Portman compilations for years... :(
I hope we get it someday :)

@ boogiepop:
That sounds absolutely fantastic!!!
Do you have the possibility to share Bee Season in lossless, too?
I know this score and like it very much.

The rest (except Semishigure of course) is unknown to me, mp3 versions would be absolutely fine.

Thank you VERY MUCH in advance, boogiepop!
I appreciate your help tremendously!!!

@GoblinScore
Which 2 tracks am I missing on the 5-tracker??
Do you have them??
and yeah Marz is me (dont tell anyone ;)...

@Tlkjwe
I think the 22 tracker I have , is the same as the 23 tracker (there were two tracks (5-6) that were the same...It also has less playingtime than the one on Amazon

Hi all i was directed here from Isbum so here goes. )

Hey All! Another shot in the dark here: 1)Does anyone know if the soundtrack to the 1975 Jonathan Kaplan action/adventure trucker film "White Line Fever" staring Jan Michael Vincent, Kay Lens, and Slim Pickens has ever had a release? I know there was a 45rpm record in Japan of the title song by Valerie Carter titled "Drifting and Dreaming". The score was composed by David Nitchern(sp?).
2) Anyone know if a recording of the songs and the score for the 1980 Rankin and Bass production of "Return of the King" has ever seen the light of day? Like the Orc says: "Where's there's a whip there's a way!"
Thanks very much for your time.

@isbum:
¡¡MUCHAS GRACIAS!! Downloading "Cleo" as I type this. You have no idea how long I've wanted to get a hold of something other than the vinyl-to-cassette recording I made eons ago. Two things: speaking of blax trax, do you happen to have "Shaft's Big Score" by Gordon Parks (who also directed the film)? Again, I've got a cassette from when I was a kid. And I've got "Smackwater Jack" by Quincy Jones on CD. It's got "Ironside", "The Anderson Tapes" and "Hikky Burr". I can upload for you (or anybody else) if you don't have yet.

Trident
Thanks for the blaxploitation comp you posted. Curious to see what nuggets it yields. ;-)

ANOTHER REQUEST
There's been a recent spate of British television show soundtracks posted and got me thinking... (always a little dangerous) Does anyone have:
Vision ON
This was a series that origianlly aired in the late 60s and early 70s and was geared toward hearing-impaired children, which is ironic since the music was wonderful!

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers!

Omigosh! I am just happier than a pig in...well, you know. I'm listening to "Willie Dynamite" and "The Dynamite Brothers" ("Snake" is just fading out on my iTunes) and downloading "Shaft" as I type this. And I'm just grinnin'! My father bought the vinyl to "Shaft", "Shaft's Big Score" and "Cleopatra Jones" when they were new and I "inherited" them much, much later. But not before he'd played them to death and they'd become imprinted on my brain!

Anyway, you (with the help of 7 Black Notes) have truly made my weekend! Many thanks!

@ All -

Just to have some fun and introduce a little bit of drama & suspense into the proceedings, I'm here to announce that next Friday I'll be sharing something VERY SPECIAL INDEED as a Weekend Special!

In fact, I'm typing this as a I take a quick break from preparing it for all to enjoy next week...and each step of the way I'm more and more excited to be sharing this with all of you! After all, it's not often one of us can post here and say that what they're sharing is so rare and unique it's likely that NOT A SINGLE ONE OF YOU HAS THIS IN YOUR COLLECTION!!

Well, I think that's enough of a tease. I really am "happy as a pig in poop" to be sharing this - and can only hope it's half as precious to each of you as it is to me!!

See you on Friday!

(Oh, and thanks to everyone for all the great shares this weekend - can't remember right now which I took and which I didn't so thanks to everyone!)

My new "Dirty Harry Definitive Collection" will be available very soon!

I just wanted to say a BIG thanks to kmoory (aka Dimich) for extracting all the audio from the dvd's for me.

Although I had previously designed a set of custom covers for these releases, I was never completely happy with them so I decided to revisit them, and hopefully, improve upon them!

I think this new set is far better than the old one (still available if anyone wants them) and it now also includes a couple of extra discs to make it more "definitive".

A special thanks also goes out to Ennioman for supplying most of the images used throughout the booklets.

You can find your way there via my main site.

Hope you like 'em!

Hi everybody,
I've followed this ABSOLUTELY FAMOUS Blog for a while, it's really the most inspiring blog for soundtracks in the sphere! You also inspired me to create my own blog (never thought, that this is going to be so easy!) - I really like to invite you to have a look. I have to say that I don't share any scores there (my internet connection is very bad), and it's in GERMAN, but probably you like it nevertheless a little bit. There are some links of soundtrack-, artwork and composer sites and some interviews I did in the mid-90's. Any comments are welcome!

Thanks a lot for the music from The Bride Wore Black. One of my favorite Claude Chabrol films, and one of the few still missing from my almost complete collection of Chabrol DVDs.

I recall seeing the film at a small art house on Wilshire in Beverly Hills in the late 60's, and found myself sitting next to the character actor, Kurt Kazner. We had a grand chat before the movie started, and afterwards I went bragging to all my friends about meeting Kazner. Not a damn one knew who I was talking about!

'IT's ALIVE' -

the recording sessions by Bernard Herrmann. From the first film. Not the sequel. Roughly 40 minutes of music. No sound effects. Tape source is slightly damaged. But audible. I was once asked not to share it. 4 years ago. I changed my mind about keeping one's word since.
My dear Frankly/yes-community, do you want me to post it?

As a freshman of this community, I am giving you a special present, as proof of my good will, and fanfare, please:

IT'S ALIVE, B. Herrmann, 1974

http://www.megaupload.com/?d=D3UYRFO0

Dark, dirty, sinister, for brass, moogs & strings, a true horror Herrmann if there ever was one. Original tapes are supposed to be deleted. Fortunately, somebody somehow could make a recording of them in time, before the accident.

I will delete the link on Friday, for obvious reasons. So be quick, please.

@ Das Clown: Thanks for the It's Alive tracks! Not to steal your thunder but, believe it or not, I have a tape of the original It's Alive tracks which I haven't had transferred yet from cassette yet and a gent named Majestyx has a CD of it available on his site (if you want to pay $20 for it). I'm downloading yours to hear how it sounds in comparison. Mine has low volume and some static-like distortion in the Titles track for starters.

@ all: By the way, for those of you who want a good source for boots & studio tapes, you can contact Majestyx and see if he will deal with you. Not only does he want money but he can be prickly & picky with who he sells to. Even so, he has material that no one else has. If you do get into his good graces & acquire stuff, upload & post it here (without pissing him off by telling him you've done so).....

http://www.majestyx.com/

Anonymous said...

@TheAlchemist

I think we have the same material. I think 40 minutes are exactly as much music as there was in the film.
This special kind of distortion (mine, too, I'm afraid) seems to be common in bootlegs from the late 90's and around the Millenium. My guess is it comes from a transfer "tape-to-CD" via a noise-gate-equalizer or other old-fashioned wave-lab tools which do not exist anymore. Many bootlegs of rare to find soundtracks must have been transferred that way during that time and are now almost unbearable because all frequenzies got killed. You can hear the same nonsense on the unofficial Indiana Jones III bootleg or, just recently, Saunders Black Sunday thing.

@ColSaunders
No offence, Colonel, you performed some magic on your penultimate ed. I just wished the original master tapes were available for a cleaner transfer meeting today's standards.

The Alchemist said...

@ Stephen64: You should especially look over majestyx's Stewart Copeland holdings as he has a ton of choice items that I have not acquired from him......

The Alchemist said...

@ Das Clown: Even so, in those days the studio tapes made their way around & earlier dubs could be cleaner than dubs made later down the line. That's why I'm curious to hear yours. Even so, it was a very auspicious opening salvo! So what else can you offer us ;-)

The Alchemist said...

@ Ruggo: I know who Kurt Kasnar is. He had a regular role on Land of the Giants and is in a ton of 50s MGM movies. I'm glad you liked the Bride & I hope the sound quality isn't too bad.

The Alchemist said...

@ all: Speaking of sources, here is another great source for bootlegs, un-released, and expanded scores....

soundtrackers@roadrunner.com

This is an e-newsletter run by a guy named Gerry. He charges $22 a disc (or higher) plus postage, but again, he often has material that no one else does. Also, if you write him with requests, he often has scores that don't appear on his latest e-updates and will provide a list from his more extensive holdings.

Again, if you acquire any choice items & share them here, I would advise not mentioning it......

Isbum said...

@ The Alchemist - Did you ever trade with a gent named Eagle on the East coast? We went in together on some of the Gil Melle scores that Majestix had for sale.
This was like 2005 or '06.

Also, could you please post the covers & booklet for Neil Hefti's "How To Murder Your Duck"?

Isbum said...

@ The Alchemist - Yes, I drove out to Gerry's house several time to pick up a few of his goodies.
Even gave him a few Lp transfers and got a little sales commission on them.
He's in business for himself. Charged me California State tax and would have added handling costs if he walked an extra ten feet to get to my car! ;)
Praise be the internet and this blog!! I deal with him no more.

The Alchemist said...

@ isbum: I do not know Eagle. So you've dealt with Majestyx before too. Well, with my personality (fire) and his personality (gasoline) you can imagine what happened between us LOL! I sent him some scores including World Without End. I don't know how much money he's made from it over the years, but he still offers it on his ebay store. I wanted a stack of scores from him but didn't like the price so I made the fatal mistake of complaining & trying to haggle. He simply cut me off & that was that. Dylan told me that he charges $20 or $25 a disc now. I can't remember which. In any case, as long as you don't make the mistake of complaining or trying to lower the price, I'm sure anyone can get what they want from him. Look over his listings. If you find something you want, e-mail him telling him you're interested. If he asks where you heard about him, tell him a soundtrack collector passed on his e-mail (do not say you got it from a blog that shares scores). And once you get a price back from him either pay it or don't pay it but don't do anything else because he doesn't have the space for that. Otherwise, I'm sure he's a nice guy who has a dog and loves his mom.

David Federman said...

I've asked before but never received a definite answer. Was there a score for "Butterfield 8"? The music heard in the film, especially the moments when Eddie Fisher is pretending to play it at the piano, is remarkable.

Also: Was there a soundtrack for Abby Mann's made-for-TV movie on Martin Luther King Jr.? I remember a haunting main theme by, I believe, Billy Goldenberger (or some such name). Does anyone know what I'm talking about or mis-remembering?

The Alchemist said...

@ Isbum: Yes, that's the same gent but he does have some nice holdings.

Meanwhile, I don't have a scanner which is why none of my files have artwork (unless it came with some from my source). I've been meaning to get over to a friend's place who has a scanner so I could provide the Jason King art that people requested but I just haven't had the time. So, for now, no scans on the Kritzerland Hefti. But, if & when I ever do get over there & if he is ok with it, I'll do the Hefti inserts as well. I just can't say if or when that might be. Sorry.

The Alchemist said...

@ David Federman: Years ago someone sent me a tape that contained a cover from a 45 rpm that someone did of the main theme. To my knowledge that is the only music that was released from the film (unless Kaper played the theme on his piano album). Since the film is an MGM film, if the original materials exist, FSM is the likely candidate to release them but so far they haven't done so. I'm no expert on this so others here may have more info. And, the real pros at the Film Score Monthly chat room are likely to know every cover, label, and number, and have the things besides.

filmpac said...

To give some credit to Majestyx, he does maintain the web's best "Unofficial Score Database", available here. I've never dealt with him, never spoken to him, never mailed him, but he does deserve credit for that at least. Could wish for a little more info on that database, but credit where credit is due.

@ ruggo - Alchemist beat me, I know Kurt Kasznar too. He got to play a Dr Smith type on Land Of The Giants, and did a whole better than Dr Smith. Movie-wise, Sallie & Mel would probably best know him from "My Sister Eileen". Great character actor of the type you don't see any more.

@ das clown - Hehe. It's Alive! Not quite so rare as you might think, but looking forward to playing your version on the morrow. Word on the street is most of the score was recycled for It's Alive II. Welcome to Frankly, and thanks for taking the time to say hello, and share :)

Bronislau Kaper does indeed play Butterfield 8...Track #4 on the album of his own piano themes. However, it's been so long since I've seen the film I don't know if that's what Eddie Fisher tinkles.

If anyone requires a repost of the Bronislau Kaper Plays His Film Themes album, let me know.

@ ALL

I found this link on another filmscore site [vinnierattolle] during a google search for information on the quoted following...

"The Universal Studios Tour Album!
If you're a fan of films and TV from the '70s (and why else would you be here?!), you're gonna wanna download this one! This utterly obscure LP was released as a souvenir at The Universal Studios Tour in 1979. The album includes an in-depth audio tour of park attractions, such as The Bionic Test Center (a tie-in with The Six Million Dollar Man and The Bionic Woman), The Battle of Galactica (from the original Battlestar Galactica), the special effects attraction The World of Cinemagic, the park's staple Jaws ride, the monster makeup show Land of a Thousand Faces, the Airport '77 Screen Test Theatre and familiar sets from countless film and TV productions, including The Munsters, Leave It to Beaver, The Hardy Boys/Nancy Drew Mysteries, Rescue from Gilligan's Island, Animal House, Psycho, Harvey, and much, much more!

Should be noted that this isn't my share, it was sent to me be a visitor to share with all of you. The album itself is pretty damned cool but what makes this share truly special is the extras that Mike's assembled. Not only can you hear the album, but you can see what they're talking about! Included are hundreds of rare and unusual photos taken from a wide variety of sources (books, videos, film, the internet) which illustrate what people who took the tour were seeing. So don't thank me for this one, thank Mike for all the hard work that he obviously put into this incredible, elaborate share!"

I must say this is indeed a rare treasure, especially for Me, as My first visit to Universal was back in '76, on a dual Magic Mountain / Universal Studios trip. I was so impressed, as a 10 year old would be, that I typed a letter to the studios stating that I wanted to be a stunt man for them. I still have that (unsent letter), perhaps I should feature it in a future DVD extra material supplement (funny that I didn't go in that direction, but still ended up in the business). I lived in San Diego up until 3 Years ago, and I'll always have found memories of those fine Parks.

On a side note...

I think It was a Bad call for Magic Mountain to remove the Magic Pagoda (now used as a storage room), located at the top of the mountain between the tower and The Ninja. I have read on Park forums that I'm not the only one that liked and miss it. [Bad call Ripley, Bad Call]

But I degress...

Thanks to the original uploader of course!

Cheers \ ( - _ - ) /

The Animated Signs are AWSOME!

@ kidflash

I had purchased the GAOW (2-disc) last month, it's about time that EMI decided to release the Live Wireless concert. It is great to see a better version than the Japanese laserdisc that I have, as it is starting to show age.
The FLAT EARTH is arriving today, there were problems getting it here in Sweden through a small record shop - Next time I'll just do the Amazon thing.
I have all the releases of T. Dolby on CD, there are actually differences in the -GAOW- US CD and the German pressed '83 release, as the US CD actually reflects the same version US released LP & Cassette versions [SBMWS-alt. intro & exit- / Airwaves -edited out bridge- / Windpower -shorter edited end faded out]. The German pressing reflects the UK '83 release. Now We have the '82 version. The only problem on the mastering is that "Wreck of the Fairchild" has a slight opening cue that on JAPANESE vinyl, has two radio broadcast spiels, and a third edit has been placed on the re-mastered CD. I still prefer the Original US LP, (Urges & Lipzig) with alternate cover.

I first heard 'Windpower' in '82 when a local radio station in San Diego, called 91-X, had changed it's format from Rock to New Wave overnight. The likes of music I had never heard before, Kraftwerk, The Human League and Duran Duran come to mind. It beat the hell out of listening to Led Zep's Stairway' 4 times a day, I love Zep now, but hated it back then.

UFO Trunk release from CD! AWESOME!

and David Arnold proved his composing skills by writing that amazing theme for the R&H update, always loved the theme. Shame the series wasn't quite as good!
Then again, the original has always been a favourite of mine, both the series and the main theme.

Thanks again ;)

@ Das Clown & all: I downloaded/burned/played It's Alive. It's pretty much the same tape that has been floating around. Your copy has a higher volume/recording level than mine does & it doesn't have the tape hiss that mine has. Did you receive this as a CD or did you have it as a tape that you transferred? The copy also has the unmistakable sound of having been worked over in the sound forge (a sound that I'm beginning to hate--most of my tape to CD rips have it as well). I highly doubt that a transfer/clean-up from my copy would sound any different, better, or even as good. For now, we're just stuck with a not so great sounding version of this. But it is Herrmann and while it isn't as good as Sisters or Obsession, the scores surrounding it, it still has a number of neat passages and cues.
