I had to think about that one myself.

Did you?

Post something to which I OWN THE COPYRIGHT!

For my friends around the world, while the nights are still long, the wind whispers in the trees and the cold fingers of fear can still run up and down your spine. Here's a PDF copy of my novel:

A FAINT COLD FEAR
A Novel by David L. Ruggeri (Ruggo)

Description:
In 1963 a miasma of horror surrounds the new occupants of the infamous Cornwall house and its neighborhood, even as two teenagers discover the first tender sensations of love in the isolated mountain community. Is it possible that after so many years, the specter of the old pioneers’ torment in this supposed sanctuary has risen to haunt the current citizens? Only the Bible-thumping blind shopkeeper seems to have the key to the supernatural darkness that haunts them, but he has lived in such fear of the past that he may be unable to help when the final chaos becomes a true test of good versus evil.

Seeing there is not going to be a TWS this week as our past is erased on the way to a nanny state, you might want to check out one of those non blog type web thingies to get your fix.

Maybe this should just be for requests only, and the link is posted elsewhere. They usually just wind up there anyhow.

This has nothing to do with film, rather videogame scores. I REALLY want some input, suggestions, criticism etc... about this lengthy compilation I made up from the nine (yes 9) Tomb Raider installments of the popular videogame series.

Most all are in the form of suites, from different game locales. With nearly 10 hours of music to go through, I slimmed it down to 5 discs. Some of these I'm pretty pleased with, some I felt I may have rushed them a wee bit. I think I got most of the volume levels in line, from the vast amount of source files available.

Even if you aren't a videogame music fan, I think these have some very good cues... especially the main themes, Venice Violins, as well as the latest selections from the newer games.

If you're bored, give me some input. :)

Here's the listings:

So sorry to see the heat has been turned on here. I wonder when they are going to decide to go after the libraries, second-hand book stores, pawn shops, thrift stores and yard sales for THEIR "violations" of intellectual property rights. Over the years I've spent at least $30,000 (if not double that) on the vinyl & CD & book collections cluttering my home, and I'm sure I'm not the rarity among soundtrack/score collectors. And if the item in question has been discontinued or reached the end of a limited run, then all the trading among collectors demonstrates the stupidity and shortsightedness of the industry. A farmer who butchers and eats his last dairy cow should not complain about how he's losing so much money in milk sales because the guy across the street who bought up the last of the farmer's stock is practically giving away the creamy goodness. I've bought my share, and will continue to do so. But when I can't buy, say, "H3artb33ps" from the original seller, J.Wi11iams and other intellectual property owners won't get a red cent if I give in and pay $500 for it on eBay, any more than they'll lose a red cent if I download it from a fellow collector via SuperRapidMegaHotPiratesObey.

Sorry about the rant, but it had to be said. Isbum, you and the others here perform a valuable service in keeping the love of this music alive -- and fostering additional LEGAL sales of this music that those morons in suits can't recognize -- and I just wanted you to know that. Don't let the bastards get you down.

The labels can't legally go after second hand stuff. It's protected under a law that allows anybody to resell a purchased item. I am not an American so I am not too sure what that law is.

The problem we sharers face is pretty much the labels see us as a big community that is sharing their music without paying for it. I don't agree with the tactics they use but this is why they do it.

Oh, and speaking of the scores of the Bronston epics, I don't think that the Exit Music of "Fall of the Roman Empire" has been released anywhere ("Fall of Love" from the OST is - sadly - only an instrumental version of it). If anyone has one of the DVD releases that contain the exit music, would such a person be kind enough to rip it?

The Fall of Love,sung by a chorus is heard in the intermission music;it's on the CD:More music from the Fall of the Roman Empire.
I never heard it with the film,but if there was an exit music;it should be the Fall of Love sung by Johnny Mathis;it's recorded on a french EP with a beautiful cover.
By the way,the french singer Georges Guetary recorded a french version of the song: Jamais plus bel Amour.

@all:

A regular question: I just ordered Spaceballs and Brothers Grimm from SAE. How are their international orders shipping to the UK, London, specifically)?

Just wondering, thanks!

Anonymous said...

@Kidflash

I've ordered several Cds from them via Amazon UK and had no problems. They usually take 7-10 days. Ocassionally they run out of stock but should send you notification of a delay.

Jim Barg said...

@Dom1:

Thanks, I got worried when they mentioned 30-45 days in the shipping email.

Anonymous said...

@Kidflah - a lot of sellers shipping from overseas give that time frame to cover themselves in case of customs delays but in all my many transactions with sellers from the U.S., Australia and Europe it's never taken more than 14 days. S.A.E., I should imagine, would have no problems refunding you should any of your items fail to arrive after the specified time-frame. My advice would be to send them a mail if your products have not arrived 14 days after receiving their confirmation of dispatch mail to you. I really would not worry.

This is a BIIIG bummer. Who would I need to buy a beer for for a copy of the March postings. I ust could not keep up with all of the postings and still go to work and spend time with the family.

I hope this place remains. After not listening to my collection for some time you have reawakened my interest and I'm spending money on new ones for the first time in years.

Funny thing how the suits are trying to close down the very thing that is actually bringing them money again.

A previous poster is correct in how is it any different from buying a used CD or used book. I just spent over $100 on used books that would have cost me over 5x that cover price and all of the money went to buy more books for the library system and the publishers did not make one dime off that transaction.

Go figure

Keep the faith all!

Isbum said...

@ fdfdfdfd - Please reread what I said about V@rese releases.

Don't do it again.

Anonymous said...

@JoeyTino

I'll tell you what the labels are thinking from my discussions with a friend who told me he worked in the business for awhile, mate.

If you sell your used book to another the book publisher loses a sale but us file sharers make copies available to many who may not buy the soundtrack. So the way I can see it is the labels see us giving away something that they view as no sales at all. When I sell my used CDs it's argued I purchased it and can give it away, sell it. The sharers may have bought the music, maybe they didn't but what we do scares them because we are giving copies to 100s instead of 1.

OK, so not a soundtrack request, however....

Is there a good zip tool out there besides winzip? A free one? I have a winzip trial, and winrar, but they will expire in about three days, and fate has decided that I need to fix the car, eat, and maybe buy insulin, as opposed to getting the full versions. Same sitch with the flac converter I am using.

Sigh. I figured the 45 days would be enough. But I am finding things out here that I never even *knew* I wanted, dammit.

GSW said...

@Kevin - I have good news for you. It is true that once your trial period for WinZIP is over the software no longer works. You must buy a lisence to continue using it.

The good news is that the same is not true for the WinRAR program. Once your trial period is over when you open the program a small gray box opens up that states "Please Purchase WinRAR Lisence." It goes on to say, "Please note that WinRAR is not free software. After a 40 day trial period you must either buy a lisence or remove it from your computer." It also offers 4 prompts.
Buy Online
How to Buy
Close
Help

All you have to do is select "Close". The gray window disappears and you can use the program as you have always done. Nothing changes except the gray window pops-up every time you open the program. Just click "Close" and go on about your business.

So go on and eat and fix the car and for goodness sake buy the insulin and don't worry about your WinRAR program. It will do anything WinZIP does.

As far as your FLAC converter is concerned, go here (http://download.cnet.com/Free-Mp3-Wma-Converter/3000-2140_4-10442362.html?tag=mncol) and download this free converter from Koyote. It will convert lots of different audio files. It is VERY easy to set up and use.

gpdlt2000 said...

@Kevin
7zip can be safely recommended as well.It is absolutely free 6 also joins files.
@GSW
Indeed, the free-mp3-wma converter is a great and easy to use tool!

Jim Barg said...

@GSW:

Huh. Never knew that about Winzip. (I always uninstalled/reinstalled after the 45 day period was done.) Thanks.

@ Kevin,
You shouldn't need an extra zip program just to unzip files. One of the Windows system files, rundll32, should do it even without any other Zip software installed. I don't have any Zip, 6 or 7 installed and I can unzip .zip files without any problems. Try uninstalling your trial version of Winzip altogether and then double-clicking on a .zip folder. It should work.

Jim Barg said...

@sorei: Thanks, but the retail version has 22 tracks and that's what I have.

This has probably been the quietest weekend we've experienced in a long time.

Which, all things considered, is not so bad. If you're anything like me, it doesn't hurt to stop now and then and listen to the music...that is to say, catch up on all that good stuff we've been downloading. After all, isn't that why we have it?

This recent little rough patch is also an excellent opportunity to appreciate the efforts of those who have shepherded this community into the huge friendly flock it has become.

Just because we're not sharing those hot potatoes right off the presses, it doesn't mean there's not still a lot of material available.

Isbum said...

@ All - Sorry, but I'm not going to have the time to check every post here to see if it's been released on the V@rese label.

Filmpac has gone into the outback and THXjay is dealing with notices to remove artwork postings in TAD.

I see no other option now but to place the blog on comment moderation, so I can make sure what you are posting is NOT from V@rese before clearing it.

I can drop the moderation once I see that everyone understands that music from the label V@rese is no longer to be posted at this blog.

Hopefully, in a short time, I'll see that we can ALL comply and we don't need the moderation on.

sorei said...

@Isbum

...is requesting + email ok, if it V@arese? As private 'communication'?
Or how to deal with that?

Ruggo said...

@isbum

Comment Moderation.

No problem. My wife had me on comment moderation for years and I still managed to communicate.

Isbum said...

@ sorie - The request from Bryon Davis @ Varese states as follows:

"Please discourage other members from requesting Varese Sarabande releases or we will send another complaint to Blogger and advise them you aren’t honoring the terms of the DMCA request."

@ sorie - Not everyone who visit's here will know that, so this is why I'm going to have to monitor comments for now.

@ All - If you've made friends here, ask them for VS releases because we can no longer post them here, out of print or not.

This place has been as much about making friends as it was about sharing music.

You want a score from that label, write your friends for it.
I can't allow you to openly make arrangements here any longer.

budarc said...

Comment moderation. Yikes. That's the final nail in the coffin...
